It all moved so fast, one minute I was asking him why he was stalking me and the other minute, I somehow found myself in the living room with my grandfather and Sebastian Wolfe. “We are getting married” Sebastian announced confidently and the room fell silent. It was typical of him to always have such power over everyone. His aura commanded everyone’s attention with ease, a fact he was very aware of and loved it about himself. But right now he could only focus on one person in that room, so when he looked at Charles, he saw hostility. I am sure of this because that was what I saw. My grandfather began to chuckle, it was empty and sounded like nails on a chalkboard, which made me more nervous. “Is this some sort of joke?” “No Sir, we were engaged before we lost contact, tell him, Alina” I was too frozen to speak but in the secrecy of my heart I was glad he had used the term “Engaged” instead of “Married”. That would have complicated things more. Everyone was waiting for me to say something. If I didn't affirm, Sebastian would keep to his threats, I knew him too well. “It’s the truth Grandfather,” I said with all the dignity possible. My grandfather's head turned towards me, his eyes dark and murderous like a viper that wants to kill you with one bite, the kind that will leave your corpse bleeding on the ground. “5 years is a long time for someone to change, do you think he is the same man that you once knew?” Of course, Sebastian was the same man right? “Yes grandfather” I lied while trying to stay calm. I hated Sebastian, I hated him so much for putting me in this situation and humiliating me. “Why didn’t you tell us? How long have you been seeing each other?” He asked with narrowed eyes and I felt trapped by those words. Sebastian knew because he answered “Some weeks” Charles Grant didn't say anyone after that he just stared between Sebastian and me. It made me sick to the stomach that I had to lie to him. I was even more sick when I couldn't tell what was going on in his head. Dinner passed by awkwardly, not even Vanessa could say a word. “We need to start the wedding preparation,” Sebastian said once we were outside in front of his Tesla. My heart sank at the sound of his voice. “How Do you expect us to start planning a wedding? ” I was upset. “Can't you read the room? Did you see my grandfather's reaction? Do you still think there would be any wedding? Why are you so bent on ruining my life?” I was getting angry. This whole plan was ridiculous, he knew how much I hated what he was doing. “There will be a wedding, just do as you are told” He replied calmly while taking out his phone from his pocket and checking messages. “As for preparations, I already told them you would help in this one. There is nothing else they could ask of you” Who were they? “Them?” “You'll see” In the next week, Sebastian seemed to have won my grandfather over. The wedding was small at one of his luxurious hotels. It didn't help that I could barely spot any of his family and on my side, it was only Charles Grant. There was no sign of my half-sister, Vanessa. “You may now kiss the bride” The officiant announced with a huge smile and both Sebastian and I stepped forward simultaneously. I was confused by how fast everything was going. “They are going to sense your hesitation” he whispered as he leaned forward. His lips brushed against my lips softly and I shivered slightly. It was then I realized that I was afraid, because of his threat and also because of the weird reaction his lips stirred inside me. I don't know what I expected but his lips were surprisingly soft and warm, not as cold as his heart was. Maybe it wasn't the best way to describe a kiss but I guess it worked for me. I closed my eyes and felt Sebastian warm hands glide across my back slowly as if he wanted to memorize how to touch me. As if he were trying to remember the taste of my mouth. When I opened my eyes again, Sebastian looked completely different. My mind was a whirlwind as we exchanged the rings and my hands trembled uncontrollably, I couldn’t believe we were doing this, again. That same day, I moved into the Wolfe’s mansion. And just like last time, six pairs of eyes waited for and it felt like dèjá vu. The only difference was that I wasn't the scruffy girl I once was. I was still intimidated but I hid it with a blank expression. If Sebastian had held my hands at that moment he would have felt the sweat in them. “You still went ahead to bring this whore back, do you even care about this family's reputation?” Mrs. Wolfe demanded. The older Mrs Wolfe because I was also now a Mrs Wolfe. Her face was flushed red, her fists were balled and her breathing was uneven. She was obviously agitated. “What makes you think you can return with such embarrassment?” “I chose my path already, take it or leave it” Sebastian responded. His tone was icy and detached but I could hear hurt in it too. Maybe I was exaggerating. “Your path is a whore and she…” “Excuse me, Mrs Wolfe. My name is Alina Grant. My pronouns are she/her. But I understand that some people like you are obsessed with my past so sometimes my pronouns are slut, whore, and hoe. But trust me, I understand. This time is different from the last time. I wouldn't stand here and hear it anymore if it weren't for Sebastian. And please forgive him, this has become a habit now” Mrs Wolfe glared at me, looking like she would gladly rip out my throat and spit on my body, but after the short pause, she let out an exasperated sigh and turned around. “Take the bitch wherever you want, I don't want to see her” “You mean to say, Alina. My name is Alina” I corrected with a forced smile. One minute she was in front of me and the other minute her palm collided painfully with my cheek.Alina POVMy grandfather didn’t look pleased to see me, the anger on his face only deepening as I walked through the front door of one of his penthouses with my purse in hand. This was the agreed location and also to avoid any cameras that might follow me.I smiled awkwardly at him, and he just scowled even harder. “You’re are going to tell me what is going on”“Sure I am” I agreed, sounding a little more defensive than I had intended. He wasn’t exactly known for being the forgiving type. “What is going on? First it was the sudden marriage, and now those photos? Why did you not mention them?”“I didn't know they were in existence until yesterday grandfather” I bowed my head in shame. It didn't matter how much of my past I had tried to erase, they seemed to always find their way back to me, to where they truly belonged. It didn't matter if I hid or not.He sighed, running his hand down his face “Why couldn’t you have called first? It takes time for things like this to process.”“It
Alina POVI watched him put it in his pocket. “You wouldn't be needing this for now,” he told me. I raised my brows, confused. “Why? I always need my phone, give it back” I held my hands out expectantly.“I'll give it back later,” he replied, shrugging.“Well, I don't understand what silly games you are playing this time Sebastian Wolfe but I would like my phone back this very minute, I don't care about what you think” “Fine,” he agreed and reached out for me. I flinched and jumped away as fast as I could. He frowned but he didn't say anything and I didn't know whether he actually understood or if he was simply pretending. I decided not to ask and to take my chances with it.He dropped the phone on the bed instead of handing it to me and soon he was walking towards the door. “I'm going downstairs, I'll send my chauffeur around to pick you up,”“Wait, you aren't coming?”“No” he said matter of factly. He turned around and I saw something flash across his eyes, something very dark
Alina POVThere were two things I knew for sure. First, Sebastian Wolfe was angry and whatever had annoyed him had us sitting next to each other in his private jet back to New York. And the second? I didn't give two shits, so I didn't ask.I didn't ask when we made our way back to the room we now had to share in the Wolfe's mansion even though I still thought it was unnecessary.I woke up to no sign of Sebastian by my side and I was glad I had the room to myself.I had my bath and got out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my body, my hair was still wet. The room smelled like lavender. It was my favorite smell.I moved the towel to my waist, my back turned to the door while I applied some lotion over my body. The door opened with full force but I wasn't fast enough to wrap myself up with the towel. When I turned to look at the intruder, his eyes were wide, almost comically so and he looked down at me. I felt bare even though I now had a towel over me.His eyes moved from my
Alina POVNot too long after Sebastian had left for his room, I decided to call it a night myself. I was completely spent and I needed to relax. I found his aunt by one of the tables talking with her daughters. I excused myself, telling them I was extremely tired and needed some rest.“Oh that’s understandable. Come, I’ll walk you up to your room,” Sebastian's aunt offered.I was inclined to decline but she was already getting on her feet and coming around the table to meet me. I sighed as I took her hand which she surprisingly offered me again and allowed her to lead me up the staircase. While we walked, she peppered me with some personal questions. Then she started asking me about her nephew and what I thought about him. It confused me at first but I told her the only honest thing that I could. He was quite honest with his dealings and very straight to the point.‘Oh that’s my Seb. He’s always been that way. Too uptight, doesn’t let himself relax”We were now in front of a bedroom
Sebastian POV“She’s easy on the eyes, cousin”I did not have to turn around to know it was Alex –Al as our mothers liked to call him, who had spoken. In his hand, he held a plate of food piled high. “Whose eyes?” I asked without looking at him.“Come on, it’s hard not to look”“But not impossible, try”He chuckled, recognizing my twisted sense of humor for what it was even though a part of me was serious.I looked away from him just as he picked up another piece of chicken from his plate and took a large bite.It was one of the greatest mysteries of Alex. How did he manage to eat that much and still remain fit. With his inconsistencies at the gym and several social disorders. But I knew how. Which was exactly why I was giving him the look I currently was.“What?” He laughed and struck my arm with his elbow, playfully of course.“You know what”“Relax, I’m not going to touch her. She’s your wife. Come on, man, you’ve got to give me more credit than that”Then I really looked at him a
AlinaI was suddenly nervous at the prospect of meeting his other family, I was even more confused on what exactly I was doing here.“Do you want to shower and get changed first?” Sebastian went on, unperturbed by my worries,My palms were sweaty. I indiscreetly rubbed them against my skirt while he stood there peering at me curiously like he could see through the brave mask I was trying to put on.“Actually, I was hoping to talk to you first”Sebastian only raised his brow for a second before turning around. “We’d go somewhere private”I followed him around the curve of the staircase to the hallway beyond. There were a series of doors leading out of the hallway on both sides of us. Large windows flanked the exterior walls revealing the fields around the house. I decided that if I had time to do anything else, I would walk around the grounds. Finally, Sebastian turned open a door and we descended three steps into a sunken den decorated with plush carpets and dark walls. He offered me
AlinaThe pain was immediate and excruciating but I kept myself together. I didn't cry, I didn't move, I didn't react. Not for long anyway. It was a good thing that I had learned self-control. “Mother!” Sebastian yelled angrily. He walked up to his mother and pulled her away from me. “Now you lis
Alina POV“Sir your fiancee is here” I heard his receptionist say from behind the door.Sebastian didn't make any attempt to move so I pushed him. What surprised me was the way my hands tingled as I pushed him further away and the fact that he did not object. We stared at each other for a moment
AlinaPanic engulfed me as I stared at the moving body, there was no way I was going to be part of a murder case, not when I had just started living, not with everything else.“What the hell have you done? He is not breathing, he is not moving!” I screamed at Sebastian in the middle of my panic att
AlinaI was FUCKED.If I thought I was fucked in the day, now it was worse than before. What was this? Was this karma coming back to bite me in the ass in its own unforgiving way? But for what reason?I threw on my clothes and lastly, sunshades. The last thing I wanted was to be caught in public w
