Alina’s POV

“You can't be here ma'am” Clara voice was low as she whispered to me , though her eyes were soft when I glanced at them but she kept looking around as if she didn't want to get caught talking to me, which would be a complete and utter lie because we were friends right?

“You haven't been responding to my messages or answering my calls.” I looked at the clock in the reception area of the waiting room.

“She took my phone, she didn't let me get home until past 10, she has been strict with us since the past one week.” She started rubbing her hand over her face. “I don't know what to do anymore. ” I could hear the frustration in her voice. I knew it wasn't easy for her to deal with.

“Let me see her.”

Clara looked like she was skeptical about my request . But then she sighed and gestured for me to follow her up the hallway. We stopped in front of a plain wooden door with the name 'Vanessa Grant’' in gold letters on its surface. A small plaque above the frame read 'CEO'. She turned the handle and slowly opened the door revealing my sister.

Vanessa had taken over the company and I was left to wallow in my recovery phase after that fateful night, but it wasn't too bad. I had found myself back in the life I had abandoned, with all the old habits I hadn't really lost, but the most important part -Sebastian’s niceness.

I used to think he was made of stone, ready to tear down any obstacle that came his way, no matter how big. But now... he was…

“Ma you have a visitor.”Clara’s announcement interrupted my thoughts and brought me out of my reverie. The woman looked confused at the sight of me, but I gave her a friendly smile before she spoke again. “Oh” She was smoking something and her face was flushed red with the fumes from the joint.

“I thought I gave strict warning not to let my darling Alina in” She was staring at Clara, no, glaring at her , more a look of amusement than anything else.

Grace looked like she had been caught between a rock and a hard place “I am sorry ma'am.”

Vanessa chuckled “Of course. Leave us.” And when Clara left, she held her hands out towards me. “Alina dear, what brings you here?” Her tone reeked of mockery. She was talking as if I was some feeble minded child, instead of an adult trying to fix everything herself after everything happened. It was ridiculous, I mean I wasn't that weak! I was a grown ass woman who knew what she wanted and had made it work, yet here I was. Trying to make things go smoothly and doing such an awful job at that.

“I think I am strong enough to come back, I just wanted you to know first before I tell Grandfather” I didn't need her patronizing attitude to rub salt into the wound.

“That's sweet of you Alina, but there is nothing for you to come back to. “ She put away the cigarette and stared straight at me, making eye contact with me was the hardest thing she ever tried to do.”I am done with you sister.“ Her words were sharp and cut through me like ice. “What makes you think you are fit to come back here? I saw you limp as you walked in this building. You are not ready to walk anywhere, least of all in your house.”

It was true, I did limp and it was obvious.

But I hadn't been myself, I was losing my mind staying at home all day. Even with Sebastian’s help, I couldn't stay stable anymore. I needed a change. Something to help me recover, something that could bring me a little bit closer to who I had once been. That's why I had decided to come back. To find it, whatever it was.

“I am fine Vanessa , you shouldn't worry about me so much” My voice was shaky with anger and I tried to keep it steady, but failed miserably. “There are other people here that need me. This company needs me. Not that you would understand. I know that you only want to be CEO to spite me. I know you hate me but this is about the future of this company”

At that, she laughed. It started off as a low chuckle, but soon developed into full blown laughing. Her shoulders shook and the smoke flew out her nose, almost hitting me in the process.

“Alina I'm afraid I cannot allow you to enter.” She said in between fits of laughter. “After the stunt you pulled with your past, I won't risk another scandal, especially with our stocks dropping like they did. Grandfather would be ashamed of you.”

My jaw dropped at her response. No, no way. How dare she?

But I clenched my jaw, sitting quietly. I wouldn't give up. I wouldn't let her defeat me, not today and not any time in the near future. So I remained silent and let my eyes wander around the office. There wasn't much to see. Just a little touch to outdo my previous decorating choices. I spotted two large portraits behind the desk in front of me.

Vanessa stood up and walked behind me. “You are dismissed Alina.” She whispered in my ear . “And if I catch wind of another incident of you being here... Well. Let's just say I will get very angry.”With that she opened the door firmly. “Shall we? I would help you down the stairs. You know how weak you have become .”

“No I don't think so Vanessa . I still have strength” I said, getting up and placing my hand on the railing. I made sure the pain was gone from my leg before taking a couple of steps away from her. I felt the familiar sting as the brace went tight against my leg, but it was nowhere near as unbearable as last time.

“Goodbye Alina” I heard Vanessa’s voice before a force pushed me forward and I tumbled down the stairs.

Alina’s POV “And she lives” Those were the first words that rolled out of Sebastian’s mother’s lips once Sebastian pushed me in through the door and let it slam behind him.I winced at the sound as I looked around. His parents and sister’s faces held no love, not even a hint of affection. In fact, they just looked like they’d seen better days. They made it clear as usual that I wasn't welcome and I didn't want to be. “Very generous of you, Mother” Sebastian’s voice reeked of sarcasm as he leaned down with a sneer. “You really think I would give up my wife?”I cringed away from his sneer. “Sebastian…” I tried to reach out for his hand but he moved his body away from mine, so I gave up and slumped my hands against my sides instead. The room was so cold I could see my breath as his mother continued, “You might have had your pick of the women in town. But then, I suppose, there’s always one who isn’t worthy of being yours.”Sebastian stood still for a moment before saying, in a very

Alina’s POV“What if it was him?” that voice echoed in my mind, causing me to look up and look around me, I was alone and lost in my thoughts.I shivered involuntarily.I didn't understand where that question even came from. But the voices in my head were active. “Alina, are you even listening to me?” One snapped, pulling further into my thoughts.“Who?” I asked, confused. I knew who it asked for, and I knew what it was talking about but trust me when I say no one wanted their fears to be confirmed.“That’s what I was wondering” another sighed. “What if it was ” it repeated its question. I could imagine the voice as that of a lean woman, staring at me with crossed her arms and warm amber eyes piercing through the bottom of my soul and trying to figure me out but I looked away immediately. The hair in my arms stood involuntarily at the mention of his name, causing my whole body to tense up. I remembered the last time. I was giving him more power than necessary. He still managed to b

Sebastian’s POV “What is this madness?” One of the men yelled, he was staring at me with cold icy eyes, and his accent was heavy.“What does it look like? Be patient and watch.” I responded calmly, although I really wanted to tear them into pieces. When the video finished playing, they both turned to me, faces white as paper, their mouths agape. I could have sworn that their hearts skipped a few beats when the video played the first time. Then one of them looked at the other, he gave him a slight nod as if he had just completed some kind of mission. The one called Pierre cleared his voice. “What do you want?”he asked. He didn't seem so confident now. In fact he seemed downright scared. But what was there to be afraid of, he thought. I’m not going to kill you or anything, so calm down. Calm down.“Well, first of all, you need to answer a question for me” A smirk appeared on my face. The man looked surprised but nodded in agreement. “Did you really think you could get away with hara

Sebastian’s POV “The French men, they molested me” The words fell off her lips and I could feel the blood rushing to my face, though there was no emotion on her face. This was a mistake, I must have misheard. It couldnt be possible. All I saw was red. I was angry and sad and confused and scared. I couldn't remember why I had felt these things, but I remembered those words very cleary. Those words were engraved into my mind, they found a way to keep themselves in my memory. It played on a loop in my mind, the image of her lying broken and bleeding on the floor, the smell of her fear in my nostrils, her broken soul. It felt like I could remember her, more like sew every single detail, the sound of her screams, and every single word she screamed. The way her eyes were wide open and full of fear as she tried to call for me, I'd always hear it echoing in my mind. I could picture the men laughing while they tossed her back and forth, I could imagine them staring at her luscious body,

Alina’s POV My vision blurred when I woke up and blinked away the dark spots in front of my eyes, trying to understand where I was, what happened. My body felt tense like a rubber band pulled taut as it stretched from my shoulders to my knees, but when I tried to move any muscle in my body it just hurt. It was like there were wires connected to all my limbs, some in my back, others in my legs and feet. It made it hard for me to sit up, so I had to lean against the bed.“Relax…” I heard a familiar voice. “Just relax. You're fine.""Mister?" I croaked out, my voice sounding raw even to my own ears. He laughed.“From Sebastian to Mister, but I will take it” he said. His voice sounded distant, like I was listening through a tunnel. “You're safe here, we're going to get you out of that position in a few minutes, just let your muscles uncoil." His warm hand rested lightly on my shoulder. “I feel trapped.”"It's okay...you're not trapped." I could hear the smile in his voice. “You ju
