I sat in Morpheus' car watching the buildings go by.
“She’s an odd one,” I say, not looking away from the window.
“Odd?” Morpheus quips. “No Killian, not odd, strong. She went through a lot before she got where she is.”
“What do you mean?” I ask.
“Her father was the Alpha to the Zions. Her mother was human. She was abandoned by her mom when she was eight. She went from orphanages to the foster care system, to living on the streets, and showed back up here when she was 18 or 19, hungry, tiny, and broken. She looked and found her father, who already had his heir and his mate, and he kicked her out, with no help.” He shakes his head angrily. “As a new father, I can not imagine turning any child of mine out, whether it be Lycan or Vampire.”
“She doesn’t smell Vampire,” I say.
“No, she doesn’t. She doesn’t resemble them either. She was never a perfect fit in any world, but she is here. She stands tall and proud. I’ve witnessed her bloody for battle, where no one should have stayed standing, and yet there she was. She was a thorn in her father’s side, no matter the situation.” He chuckled. “When she was here for about 4 years she had started killing off our forbidden, they had become quite a nuisance, you see, and the first forbidden happened to be from her father’s pack. She can tell you know, I don’t know how, but she can tell which pack the forbidden she kills belongs to.”
“What? What do you mean?” I ask, confused. When wolves were forbidden they get stripped of anything that is considered pack-oriented. They have no pack, no family. They are very much alone, and when they fully lose touch with reality they are unrecognizable even to their own packs. It is only after death that they regain a familiar scent to their pack.
“Before she kills them, she knows which pack they belong to. It’s an oddity, it is, but I remember her walking into the Zion pack meeting, perfect timing, Ampherion couldn’t contain his rage, when she tossed the head at his feet.” He shakes his head chuckling, “She then so eloquently told him that now both mistakes were in front of him but only one could tell him to fuck off.”
“She what?” I ask, my mouth dropping open. Alphas especially the old-timers required and demanded respect at all times. I wanted respect but I felt I should earn it. Her father sounded very much like mine, an asshole.
“Yep, boy we all talked about it for weeks after, then each of our mistakes begin returning to us. I finally stopped and asked Katya why she did this, and she stated to remind us to change. She’s offsetting and cold but that woman is strong.” He says smirking.
“You all allow this?” I ask surprised that it would seem so normal to him.
“You seemed to have your first encounter with her today, did you allow it?” He asked, looking at me from the side of his eye.
“I was shell-shocked and busy at the time okay?” I chuckle.
“Exactly, how did you think we all felt watching that tiny thing walking into our homes bloody as hell sometimes, carrying a head in a bag. It’s intimidating.” He laughed. “Althea’s parents were visiting one time, she isn’t from our area much like you, and her parents flipped.”
“Well, it’s shocking, to say the least.” I laugh “Those eyes though, what is up with her eyes?”
“Agora took a blood sample, and she contains both DNAs simultaneously, the Zions have white pupils, pure white looking at their eyes, her mother was human the only thing that Agora can guess is that the combination of the two DNAs gave her cat eyes. She believes she is Vampire because that is all she was ever told when she found good ol’ dad, but Agora, Althea, and I beg to differ. She’s very much a loner, with reason so we try not to push the issue on tests, we were amazed that the blood was given, honestly.”
My little enigma. What was she?
“Hmmm, that is interesting,” I say.
I wanted to hear more about Katya but felt that it would be pushy if I asked any other questions. I had never met anyone like her. I wanted to see her again. It’s just curiosity I tell myself, wondering why she was fascinating to me.
My heart was in my stomach while I raced towards my house. I could feel her blood sticking to my body. I had to get ahold of Agora and see if there was a way for her to help. Most vampires would have already healed, but it seemed that Katya didn’t possess that healing power, or it was slower than usual. Maybe, she needed blood. I wonder when her last injections were. She couldn’t consume blood like a normal vampire, I knew that much, but, what if it was given to her. I slice across my chest with an elongated claw that shifted in my hand, blood started to pour out of the gaping wound, and I turn and press Katya’s mouth to it. “Come on Katya, drink it please,” I whisper to her, pressing her mouth to my wound. She stirred faintly but I still had to force her mouth open so blood could drain in. I entered my room and placed her gently on the bed with her still drinking from me. It was the most erotic thing I had ever experienced, had I not been distracted by her bleeding profusely from
I was sitting quietly in the bushes waiting to spot the elusive forbidden that had been circling Killian’s pack lands, they definitely had begun hunting us instead of us hunting them. What could possibly have caused this shift? It still irked me, I was missing something and that hardly ever happened. I heard twigs snap behind me. I shift quietly to turn around and give myself room to unsheath my sword. “Calm down it’s me,” Killian whispered leaning down next to me. “What are you doing here?” I hissed. “We discussed this.” “Eh, technically you screeched at me while I stood in shock that you smacked me upside my head,” Killian answered with a small smile. “I don’t screech.” I was offended, I never screeched. “It was a high octave.” “Shut up, I don’t like that you’re here.” “Listen, I need to do something, and actually feel like I’m accomplishing something, so I can go hunt somewhere else or we can work in twos like you told all your people they were supposed to.” “Them
I sat emersed in my thoughts of my childhood, and how Sarai had tormented me for my so-called weakness, how as I became older, my father joined her. My mother was my only friend in the constant darkness, but she too fled, and never looked back much like I had chosen to do. My phone started ringing bringing me out of my thoughts as I sat in the parking lot of Katya’s club. “Yeah?” I asked, slightly irritated. “They’re at a hotel that situated over one hundred miles away, why would she come this way, Killian?” Markus on the other end answered perturbed. “That’s what I want to know. Sarai never misses or loves anyone, what do they want? What are they doing?” “There is a bank conference there, but I thought your dad dropped the banking investments he was making?” “Dad said the best way to lose money was to depend on human banks, he pulled out of that shit over two years ago, he only invests in cars now.” “Would Sarai invest in banks?” “She is quite adept at money situations, but w
Normally, someone would say two weeks is a breeze, but this was far from a breeze. I kept picturing Katya, and her long black hair and cat-like eyes. What could I do? I hadn’t figured out if I would bow to her or not. She hadn’t reached out, I knew she wouldn’t, but a part of me had hoped she would. I was sitting here like a love-struck teenager, it was ridiculous. I could have any woman in this entire world, why did I want her and only her. She invaded my dreams, my every waking moment, nothing I did would stop it, nothing. Morpheus asked me if I would be willing to bow to her, and as much as I would say no out loud, I knew I would. I would bow in a heartbeat if she would be mine. I would bow to see that very rare smile. “Killian?” Markus knocked on the office door. “You have a visitor.” “Let them in,” I say, standing. Markus walks into the room, his face told me everything I needed to know. “Move you, oaf,” Sarai said, pushing past Markus. “Brother, you don’t look happy to see m
Two weeks had passed since Killian and I had argued. Well, technically I argued Killian listened to me argue. I wasn’t proud about hitting him, but he refused to listen; it scared me that he would put himself in danger for me. I didn’t want that. I was happy alone; wasn’t I? No, I was happy. I walked out of my bedroom to Luscious nervously waiting for me in my living room. “Knock much?” I ask, giving him a smile. “No door.” He answers, gesturing to the elevator. I laugh. “Good point. What’s up?” “So, um, I’ve been talking to everyone, and, um” he clears his throat rubbing the back of his neck, “we want you to be our person in charge. Would it be an Alpha?” “Why me?” I ask, I had figured it was coming. “You brought us together, who better to lead us?” “You?” I answered hopefully, making him laugh. “So when do we vow our allegiance, and kneel by our swords.” I roll my eyes. “I’m not your queen, dummy,” I say. “No? You’ve been our savior for quite some time, Katya. T
I had just finished putting my sweats on and was looking at the cuts I had gotten during the fight in the mirror when my bedroom door flung open. Katya stomped into the room slamming the door behind her, she was pissed. Oh was she pissed. She didn’t slow down she walked straight up to me and smacked me across the face. I had been in so many fights growing up, but this hit stung me to my core. “Are you dumb, or are you stupid?” She yelled. “Neither,” I answered, trying to contain my anger. “Well, that was a fine display of both of those things, Killian.” “I helped you, why are you mad?” “Because Killian, because you are an Alpha, did you for a minute think about what would happen to your pack if you died?” “As a matter of fact, it hadn’t crossed my mind,” I say leaning against the wall. “Does it ever cross your mind, what would happen to the vampires in your building if you lost?” “No, because I have measures in place, you dumbass.” She yelled. “Well, I’ll get measures in place
