Logan’s POV
“I have a meeting and you're telling me this now!” I was already so angry with my father.
“I didn’t want to worry you but…”
“But what?”
“I can’t link them either.”
“Why didn’t you tell me? They are my sisters too!” I lean against his desk, the one that would be mine soon as he chucks another drink back his throat.
“I didn’t want to worry you Logan.”
“Are you serious? There is someone out there that has been killing wolves for the last two years and you expect me not to worry! How long?””
“I’m sure they are fine.”
“How long?” I repeat my question, getting more and more frustrated. He was expecting me to be some great Alpha when I take over and yet he wasn’t telling me everything.
“Five days.” He groans, shaking his head.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“They are sixteen, you know what you were like at that age. You were the one who turned my hair grey!” He wasn’t wrong, I looked up to the grey flecks of hair running through his once dark hair. I hadn’t exactly been a golden child.
“Let me search for them!”
“Logan, you made a promise to me and your mother that you would not use your abilities. This is no different!” He slams his glass down on the mantelpiece and turns to frown at me.
“You know I can do it!” I fidget with the silver bracelet. The one Aunty Kendra had given me a few years back. It helped a bit to drown out the sound of wolves needing help and it sometimes stopped me doing things I shouldn’t. When I became Alpha of Lonecrown, I wouldn’t be able to ignore those cries, with or without the bracelet.
“Kendra has already warned you that whoever is killing the wolves might be able to track you, if you tune into them by mistake.”
“It might not be a wolf. What if it is some glorified hunter that's chasing them?”
“We have already discussed this son. It is unlikely that they are human, not at the rate they are killing wolves.”
“Fine, but if something happens to them, I am holding you responsible!” Storming from the room, I go to look for mom. She was always the person that could make my father see more clearly and I was certain she would back me. Her daughters were the ones missing!
“No Logan and that’s final!”
“Huh?” It was not the answer I was expecting.
“Logan, you will be Alpha soon and you know what that means.”
“Yes, you have mentioned it once or twice.” I try to keep the sarcasm out of my voice when mom throws the dish cloth at me
“But if I can’t protect my sisters, what kind of Alpha does that make me look like?”
Her eyes glance to the door and I see my father leaning against the frame
“There are some things that we agree on Logan. You are twenty now. You are not a kid. This isn’t the first time this has happened with the twins. Now we will be here, waiting. I thought you had a meeting to go to anyway.”
My father was right. I bought out a hotel chain over a year ago. My way of keeping an eye on wolves around the country. This whole business of being an Alpha of Alpha’s was daunting and I had already put in place some things to help me for when the time comes. Including my identity.
My purple eyes were a dead giveaway but mom had got me some green contact lenses. They were great when I was out and away from the pack. People would do a double take, recognising the Alpha aura around me, but as soon as they saw my green eyes, they didn’t say anything and carried on.
Lonecrown is also under strict instructions not to share my identity with anyone outside the pack. As far as other packs are aware, I don’t exist and at the moment, I would like to keep it that way.
“Seth will go for me!” I volunteer, hoping that my best mate would agree. He always wanted to do more favours, ever since he learnt that the Beta position would become available.
“Honey, what are you going to do when you’re Alpha? Seth is human, he won’t be able to be a Beta.”
“Seth’s my best friend.”
“I’m not saying that. He might be able to help you conquer the business world but he won’t be able to break up a wolf fight.”
“Fine, I will be more thoughtful.”
“Don’t be sarcastic to your mother!” My father has a slight curve to his lips but mom misses it. Sometimes I think my father enjoyed how I handled things, not that he would ever say anything to mom.
Pulling my phone from my pocket, I quickly dial Seth. He answers on the first ring.
“Hey Logan. What can I do for you?”
“I’m supposed to be in a meeting in twenty. Any chance you can run it for me?”
“What’s it for?”
“Not really sure. They're sending a girl to show me some examples, just listen to what she has to say and then I will send a rejection email tomorrow. Pretty straight forward.”
“Is she hot?”
“How the hell am I supposed to know?!”
“Just saying, seems like a job for you.” He laughs down the phone, amused by his own comment. He was another one who was always on at me about finding my mate..
“Seth. Will you do it or not!”
“I guess I can take some time out of my busy schedule.”
I give him the location and he hangs up on me.
Everyone else gets annoyed with the way Seth speaks to me, but I liked it. He didn’t treat me like I was the most important person ever, he didn’t bow to me like the others. If anything, he helped to keep me grounded, constantly reminding me of my faults. But my mother and father didn’t agree on him being my future Beta because he was human.
“Seth’s going”
“You’re not even bothering to meet that girl?” Mom asks with a frown on her face. She had been waiting for me to find my mate for as long as I could remember. Any chance she got she would remind me that I am already mated, randomly introducing girls to me. But I didn’t need her telling me. The large blue crescent on my chest was enough of a reminder.
If only they knew that I already knew who my mate was. There had never been a right time to tell them. Besides I wanted to find someone who actually wanted me for me, not because of some dumb mark.
Just once I had spoken to her. I still don’t understand how and I haven’t been able to since. I wasn’t the Alpha of Alpha’s yet and somehow a link had opened up between us. I had felt her fear, her racing heart. I didn’t even know if she had survived whatever had been happening.
“Mom it’s fine” She opens her mouth and I hold my hands up. “I won’t send a rejection email, I will ask her to meet me again.” I roll my eyes as I walk away, sometimes it was hard work pleasing my mother.
Mom smiles as I make my way outside, letting my black wolf free. Training was about to start and now that Seth was taking my meeting, there was no chance I was missing it. Plus I needed to think of something other than my sisters.
Lana’s POVAbby stays with me until we pull up in front of the large hotel. There must easily be five hundred rooms in this place. Everything from the outside was glass and I don’t really remember seeing this place before, but then Abby and I hadn’t been in town for long.“Wow, fancy!” Abby mutters as she climbs out the passenger door.“Yeah and I can already smell them!”“I think there must be something wrong with your nose. It’s really not that bad!” Abby shrugs her shoulders at me before wishing me luck and waving me off.My boots click clack along the marbled floor as I make my way to the front desk and ask to see Logan Lonecrown. I was just grateful that the receptionist was human. Hopefully a sign that this Logan person was too.“Ah, you must be Miss Decker. Mr Lonecrown is unavailable right now”I roll my eyes, it wasn’t the first time this meeting had been rearranged. I knew what was about to happen. She was going to give me a load of shit about making it up to me.“But Mr Set
Logan’s POVUncle Liam links me before I even make it to the training ground. Gut instinct tells me that he is about to ruin my fun!“I need you to come see me, now.” I roll my eyes, ready for the warning he was going to give me.“I’m on my way to training. ”“There is no training taking place today.” There’s worry in his tone. It wasn’t like Liam to ever be worried. He was usually so chilled.“You need to come to my house. Now!”“Fine, I am on my way!” I snap through the linkTaking a detour, I make my way to his house, where he is sat nursing a glass of whisky. His eyes flicker up to me as he kicks out a chair and tells me to sit. His brow is wrinkled as he concentrates on his glass. His frown makes him look old. Is this what Alpha life held for me?“Where are the others?”His house was normally packed with the rest of his brood, but he was here, alone.“You’re aunt has some news about the twins.”“Aunty Kendra is helping?” I was shocked because I was more powerful than her and yet
Lana’s POVI had heard him. He knew we were there. That same voice from before. It had made my body vibrate as he screamed into my head. We may have taken it too far this time. I think we have pissed off the wrong wolf. How did he know it was me and why did he choose that moment to shout at me?“Here!” Abby hands a glass of wine to me. The twins had been young, probably the youngest I had ever killed. I still hadn’t told her about the voice. I needed more information before I told her.“Why don’t you stay here tonight? There are no wolves and we can plan the next step. Plus you seem a little bothered.” She tilts her head as she watches me.“They were so young.” I mutter“It’s another step closer to the Alpha!”“It doesn’t bother you that they were practically children?”She takes a huge swig of wine and doesn’t answer my question. So I decide not to push it. Abby was older than me and she quite often knew better.“Can I at least shower?” I ask“You know where it is.” She knocks back
Logan’s POVDealing with the death of my sisters was the hardest thing that I had ever done. I had known about this hunter for some time and instead of standing up and taking charge. I listened to my parents. Believing that my father was right.Watching my parents mourn over their bodies was heartbreaking and yet I was so full of rage. I had warned Lana and when I find her, she will regret the day she tried to fuck my kind over. I didn’t care that she was my mate. I would never accept her.I see Seth standing by the trees, gesturing to me. Making my way over to him, I shake my head, now was not a good time. If there was a problem he needed to see Uncle Liam.“I know this isn’t a good time Logan, but there is something you should know.”He holds out his phone to me, a photo of Lana sat in reception in one of my hotels. If I had just looked at it quickly, I would have thought it was Aunty Kendra.“Why do you have a photo?” I snap, my anger was pretty close to the surface. I’m pretty su
Lana’s POV “Mr Norman, what are you doing here?” I quickly slip the blade up my sleeve as I stared at him in surprise. Why had he broken into my home? What reason did he have to be here? “Please, call me Seth,” he stands with a smile and hands me a glass, it was full with a brown liquid. Whisky. I’m not stupid, I wasn’t going to touch a single drop. Placing the glass down, I see him suck in his cheeks, he had put something in it! “That still doesn’t tell me why you are in my home!” His hazel eyes run over me as I stand my ground. “Please sit. I wanted to make sure you were okay. You seemed a little out of sorts.” “I’m not the one who is out of sorts. I haven’t broken into someone’s home!” I feel like I have every right to be defensive. This was my home and I had not invited him in. “You’ve been crying, anything I can help you with?” He takes a long swig of the whisky in his glass. Ignoring his comment, I ask him again. “Why are you in my home?” my fingers sat tightly around the
Logan’s POV“Where are you?” I groan into the phone. Seth had called to say things hadn’t gone as planned. That Lana had become aggressive and attacked him.“The hospital down the street from the hotel.” “I’m on my way,” hanging up, I quickly put the green contact lenses in. What the hell had she done? I didn’t think she would attack a human. It was why I had sent him.Lana’s voice had scratched at my head earlier, but I wasn’t letting her in. Contact would be on my terms not hers!Calling Aunty Kendra, I ask her to come and watch mom. Mom hadn’t been the same since the twins' death. She didn’t speak, she barely ate, everyone was worried. As soon as Aunty Kendra arrives, I leave, not telling her where I was going, just that I would be back soon. She didn't need to know that her daughter was involved.Arriving at the hospital, I could already hear Seth causing a scene. Shouting at the nurses that were trying to help him. Following the shouts, I find him thrashing about on his bed. Blo
Lana’s POVEverything hurt. I hadn’t even opened my eyes, when I feel the throbbing of my bones pulling me out of my slumber. It takes a moment to get my bearings when Abby clears her throat.“I think you need to start talking.” Her foot is tapping impatiently next to the bed. I realise that I’m in the spare room of her house.“How did you get me here?”“It doesn’t matter. Lana, you need to start talking. I thought we were sisters. You have become so secretive recently. It wasn’t your blood on the floor, so who did it belong to?”She moves around my bed, pulling back the drapes and letting in the light, making me squint as I try to block the pain. Why were my eyes hurting?“Come on Lana, spill! I know you used the blade on someone.”“It was that guy from the hotel. You know, the ginger nut that I had to meet instead,” I push myself up, rubbing my temples. The last I had seen of him was when he ran out of my apartment, clutching at his side.“What was he doing in your place? Did you in
Logan’s POVTwo days, that's how long it took for Lana to finally hear me. Though I was a little impressed when she tried to defy an order. The only other person that has done that is Seth. The way she told me to piss off, put a smile on my face. It shouldn’t have done, not after what she did.Quickly pulling on a suit and styling my dark hair, I slip the green contacts in. Today was the day I would be finally meeting her. Today was the day that I would be putting her in her place for what she had done.Auntie Kendra catches me as I leave my room, her brow dipped into a v, worry written all over her face.“You have to go in?” she asks quietly. I nod my head, but something was off.“What is it?”“Your mom isn’t doing too well.”She takes me down the hallway to my parents bedroom. Father was pacing outside, his hands running through his greying hair. He stops to look at me, pain etched on his face.“You need to prepare yourself.”I knew what he was talking about. He had told me about i
