OCTAVA

I moaned out loud, writhing under Jake as he thrust deep inside me. My walls clenched around his cock, and I stiffened before letting out a cry of sweet release. A minute later, Jakeson grunted out his release. He wasted no time in slipping out of me.

I moved to hold him, but he slapped my hand off.

I ignored the pain of rejection that sliced through my chest, swallowing it like I usually do. I was used to it. I just didn't understand why I kept on trying like a fool.

“Where are you going?” I gathered the courage to ask, staring at his beautifully sculpted body as he walked towards the bathroom.

“To work, don't wait, I may not come home today.” He said flatly.

I looked away, staring at the wall in front of me, trying my best to blink away the tears that were starting to form in my eyes

I pulled my legs close to my chest and pulled the cover over my body to hide my exposed body. The sex had been wonderful as always, but his behavior afterward made me feel exposed, unworthy.

It was always like this whenever we had sex. He grew distant and uncaring. In fact, he was only nice when he wanted sex, and only when he wanted sex. I had no idea why I thought it would be different this time.

Jakeson and I have been married for five years now, and in that five years, I could count the number of times he had looked at me with love and care in one hand, and even those times, it was when he wanted to make love.

That was the only time we had any semblance of connection with each other.

Every other time, we were strangers to each other. I had done everything to make him see me, to make him love me, but nothing worked, and it was all because I was human.

He didn't think I was worthy to be his mate. He never said it outrightly, but it showed in the way he treated me like I was a piece of…meat.

To Jakeson, I was a burden, an obligation, a replacement for the woman he actually wanted.

I should have left a long time ago. Nothing was holding me here, but I couldn’t. I loved him too much and still held on to the hope that one day, he would eventually see me.

Jakeson walked out a second later, his hair was wet. He had just showered. He looked divine as usual.

“So, you won’t be coming home tonight?”

“Didn’t I just say so?” he snapped.

I flinched.

“I was just asking so I can prepare dinner.”

He didn't respond; instead, he finished buttoning up his dress shirt, took his gadget, car keys, and walked out, leaving me staring after him like a fool.

You'd think by now I would be used to this treatment, but the pain was the same as always.

My hands curled into fists before me, and as soon as the door slammed shut, the tears I had been holding back broke free.

My heart rose and fell in rapid succession.

I deserved better than this, I really did.

A sharp pain suddenly sliced through my stomach, and I let out a scream.

“Ugh,” I groaned. I had been experiencing this for a week now, sharp pain in my stomach and chest. It was always brief and lasted two seconds.

But this one was hurting longer than usual.

The pain suddenly disappeared, and I sighed in relief. I stood up, about to go to the bathroom to shower and clean up, when it hit again, this time stronger.

I collapsed to the floor with an excruciating scream.

“Help,” I yelled, and a second later, my handmaid came barging into the room.

“Luna, are you alright?” she rushed to my side.

“No, please… take me to the hospital now.” I choked out, the pain worsening by the second.

I felt like I was going to die as the pain crawled up all the way to my chest.

Carla looked around frantically while I clutched my chest.

She began to yell for help when

It suddenly stopped again, and I stood up and followed Carla to the car, where the driver drove us to the packhouse.

……

“Congratulations, Luna. You are pregnant.”

Doctor Mayfair said with a smile as she walked in.

My eyes widened. I had arrived at the hospital an hour ago, and the doctors had run some tests, telling me I was going to be fine, and didn't need to worry.

“Really?” I exclaimed and she grinned wider

“Really!”

My heart swelled. I couldn’t believe it. I had given up on ever having a child with my husband years ago after so many tries with not so much as a miscarriage. At some point, I even thought my human genes could not mix with his werewolf genes, even after the doctors assured me that it wasn’t.

“But why was my stomach hurting so bad, doctor?” I questioned, sitting up from the bed.

“Well, your stomachache was due to the lack of certain vitamins your baby was taking from your body. He is a strong baby, an alpha actually. A strong breed, just like his mama.” She smiled. “That’s what caused all the commotion, but don't worry. I have prescribed a few medications for you to help with the pain.”

“I see. Thank you.” I smiled, wondering why she had said my baby was just as strong a breed as I was. I wasn’t even a werewolf. I was human, at least to my knowledge.

Maybe she was just trying to flatter me.

“You are welcome.”

“How far along, doctor?’ I questioned, already imagining the joy from Jakeson when I gave him the news.

“Seven weeks.”

……

I left the hospital, feeling so much better. Doctor Mayfair had given me a list of medicines to take, and a type of food to eat, to avoid for the next nine months. Carla had done most of the listening because I was way too excited to sit still.

“Congratulations again, Luna>” Carla said.

“Thank you, Carla. I feel great. Get the chefs to make the Alpha his favorite meal while I go find him. We will be celebrating tonight.”

“Of course, Luna,” Carla said and left.

While I made my way to the hotel Jakeson was having his meeting today, I found Leo in front of the hotel talking to a couple of well-dressed wolves.

I walked up to him, and his eyes widened in surprise.

“Luna, what…What are you doing here?”

“Where is the Alpha?”

“He's in a meeting right now.”

“Good, you're on your way there, aren't you?”

“Um, yeah.”

“I'll come with you then,” I said.

He looked a little skeptical, but I didn't wait for him to say no.

I walked into the hotel, and he followed me.

Octava’s povI slowly walked into the library, where the maids had said my father would be, and noticed he was talking to some elders.I could have easily gone to where they were seated, but I decided to sit by the window and look into the dark void of the room, which faced the woods.Looking in there, I saw how dark it was over there. No one was shining a light in the woods. It was just plain darkness. I sighed. He was somewhere in there. My poor Luka. He was not even five yet and he was going through what anyone small or big could consider a scary experience,I felt like such a huge failure. How could I save him from such a horrible situation when I couldn’t even get myself to find him without breaking down within me?I wasn’t showing it. That I was feeling a lot. But that was because I didn’t want anyone to know. Yet, they could see through my facade and they knew that I was keeping a brave face.I sighed and looked at the books kept on a shelf beside me. “The art of war,” I mutter

Jakeson’s povI walked with the guard to the dungeon. The moment I got to the entrance, I saw the queen there. She was standing on her own with the dungeon guards behind her. She had a serious look on her face. She wasn’t here to play. Good, neither was I.The moment she turned to me, I saw her eyes glow a bit. She was appearing intimidating.“Welcome. I was thinking you’d bail on me when I needed you the most.”I smiled. “You’re here. Where’s the king?”“He doesn’t concern himself with things like this. But I on the other hand like to bring pain to those who want to destroy my family,”I nodded. She then gestured for the entrance of the dungeon. “Shall we go in?”I nodded as we entered the dungeon. The moment we got in, the smell of blood and herbs hit my nose. We got to the cell to see that the man had been healed up and he was tied to the middle of the wall. Chains on both hands and feet, even around his neck to keep him steady.I walked in to see that the once hospitable cell that

Octava’s povI did my best to stay in control. This man was not going to get to me. He was the man who hurt me badly in the past. Now he was here to hurt me again. I took a deep breath and tried to calm down. I shook my head. Told myself to forget about him. This man was not worth my feelings. I was not going to let this man get to me.“That was…” I started to say, as he completed for me. “Amazing.”I looked up at him. Then I did something without thinking. I smacked him across the cheek without thinking as his face snapped to the side.I didn’t know why that came out reflexively but it did.Slowly, he turned to look at me as I gulped. This was not how I had expected this to go.“I believe I deserve that.”I chuckled.“I’m sorry.”But he nodded. “It’s fine. No need to apologize.”We stayed in silence for a while, staring into each other's eyes as the tension between us rose high. We weren’t supposed to kiss. We were not supposed to feel anything for each other. This was a huge mistak

Octava’s pov“I’ll be going now,” I said to Elma and Jakeson as I walked to the sliding door. But then someone held my arm, keeping me in place. I frowned. I didn’t like where this was going. I hated it. The way he was holding me like I was part of his possession, it hurt me. I turned to him.“What’s the meaning of this? Let me go.”Hesitation showed in his eyes as he shook his head.“Why are you acting this way? We aren’t done talking.”“And how am I acting? You seem to be the, what do we call you? The expert on how I’m supposed to be acting? Listen, man, I have a lot of things to do in there, alright? You and your… partner here have so many things to do.”“She isn’t… my partner.”But as usual, I didn’t believe a word of what he said.“Okay, fine. Let’s say she’s not your partner, what is she?”Elma was still standing at the door.“I’m here you know.”But we both ignore her.“If you people are looking for a fight, I am not going to give you one because I don’t have any left in me to

Octava’s povI sat at the table, staring at my food as I had barely touched it when my mom piped up.“Octava, eat something.”I was about to reply before Elma, who was sitting a seat after Jakeson, added in.“Yes, Octava, eat something. Need your strength if you’re going to be able to find Luka.”I slowly shot her a dangerous look. I was about to argue when my father dropped in.“You two seem to be at each other's throats,” he chuckled.“Dad, you’re not being serious.”He chuckled. It was a hearty one.“If you two are enemies of some sort, I have to know. For goodness’ sake, we’re eating with her. We’re also eating with Jakeson. I have to actually know what is going on in my kingdom, much less my home, my palace.”“Then you should not have brought her in,” I said, as my mother gasped a bit.“Octava, watch how you talk to your father in front of a guest.”I used my super hearing to find out where Kaelan and Jakeson had gone, as I heard arguments, then looked back at them and smiled.“Y

Jakeson’s povI finally appeared to the woman in her study as she was talking to a war general. Soon, the man bowed and left as I stood by the entrance. The queen then looked up,“Come in, come in,” she said as I entered. “Close the door.”I closed the door behind me, before she gestured to her seat.“So, I’ve gotten a report from my son, Kaelan, and he has told me a lot based on how his own mission had gone. Now, it had been part success and part failure, but at least we’ve gotten a lot of information. And with the rope that you’ve brought in, I believe that if we were to interrogate him, he would tell me a lot. Now, I could ask my son to interrogate him, but I know how brutal Kaelan can be, and the rogue is very fragile, and somehow knows you and Octava. I can’t ask Octava because emotions might carry her away. So, that’s why you’ve come in.”I nodded. “So, you want me to interrogate him?”“Yes,” she smiled. “Exactly. I want you to be the one to interrogate him, while the King and I
