CHAPTER 8

When I woke up in the morning, I could smell the sweet aroma of freshly baked bacon and potatoes. I walked downstairs to the kitchen and met Ethan busy on the stove, cooking breakfast. This is the second time I've witnessed Ethan cooking . The first time was when he cooked for Luna, and the second time was now.

I didn't know that Ethan could cook until that day. And seeing in the kitchen again now, I don't really know how to feel.

When he noticed me staring at me, "Eva. you're awake? Goodmorning! do you want coffee? I made it just the way you like. kettle me pour a mug for you. you will like it.

He poured me my coffee and led me to a seat at the dining as he continued, "Eva, I have made breakfast. you will love it. they are all you favourites ."

When he had made sure that I was comfortable, he went back to the kitchen as he continued to chat like yesterday never happened. "Eva, after breakfast. what do you want to do?."

"I'm going to the hospital ." I said as I continued to sip my coffee.

"But Eva, today is the weekend, i was thinking we could do something together. it's been a long time since we've had a couple's time together .

The novelty of seeing Ethan like this, I can't cope with it. I thought .

"Ethan, maybe next weekend, I really need to be at the hospital today."

"Okay, Eva, whatever you say, can I bring you lunch?."

"You want to bring me lunch ? Ethan, is everything okay with you?."

"I'm fine, Eva , I've neglected you in the past, and I want to make up for it."

"Okay."

"Great, can we go on a vacation next week?."

"Just the two of us?, what of Luna?."

"She is not coming. it's just us, you and me."

"Won't she mind?

"Why will she mind? she is not my girlfriend. I'm only going with you?."

"But Ethan, in the past, you always include her in everything. Why is this time different?."

Ethan looked at me with a hurt expression, and I bowed my head and continued to eat my food.

"Eva, I know I was wrong before, and I'm trying to correct my wrongdoing. Just give me a chance, okay?."

"If you say so, Ethan ." I said.

"I have ever only seen Luna as a sister. There is nothing between us. yes, we dated but that was in the past. That was before she left me for someone else, and I've no feelings for her now." he explained on his own.

"Wow!, I thought, "so Ethan can be this humble?." This is the first time he has brought out himself to explain something to me. if it were before, the mere mention of Luna's name, and he will bring down the roof.

"Does Luna know how you feel? and do you think Luna sees you as just a brother?."

"Eva, Luna is not that kind of a girl. You have misunderstood her greatly ." Ethan defended Luna quickly like he was afraid I would start targeting her again.

"Maybe you should talk to her before making your plans?." I advise.

"Why would I talk to her? Eva, I'm trying to restore our relationship, and you are not helping here." He said, raising his voice. "IS there something else going on? something you're not telling me, perhaps?

"Something like what?." i asked, puzzled.

"You tell me Eva because I don't understand you anymore.

"Ethan, i dont know what you're talking about."

"Really, Eva?."

"Yes, Ethan, really." I said, raising my own voice, too.

"Maybe you should just tell me if there is something you know that I don't'" I said to him.

"Eva, stop fooling around. You think I don't know you're seeing someone else behind my back?."

"What? Ethan, are you crazy? how can you say something like this to me?." I asked in shock.

"Stop pretending, Eva, all those your ." I have a late night surgery, and I won't be coming back."I have a seminar, I'm travelling for a week." You think I don't knowbits its because of another man?

"Ethan, is this really what you think of me?." I asked in disappointment.

"Eva, stop pretending to be hurt here. Stop acting all innocent in front of me. you can't fool me."

"I see! Ethan, you remember the word I said to you the day I accepted to be with you?."

"What are you talking about now?." Ethan asked me, acting ignorant. "Well, I wasn't about to spear him."

"Let's get one thing straight, I've only ever been with you and no one else. I've only ever loved you in my life. You know more than anyone else the sacrifices I've made in this relationship . You know I left my friends just to be with you, I've offended so many people, including my parents, all because of you. Ethan, I will never beg you to love me, never! only respect me as your girlfriend, that's all. The day I accepted you, I told you that if you ever stop loving me, I will leave. I mean it then , and I mean it even more now! Eva Sainclair will not beg for a man's love."

As I finish speaking, Ethan slumps unto his seat. sweat pouring over like raindrops.
