As I closed my eyes, I could see his face. When I laid in bed, I had a distinct impression that I had waited for him to return. My eyes felt tired, and while I struggled to remain awake, I heard him out in the hallway, albeit not as many obscenities. Once again, I closed my eyes and prepared to go to sleep.

I had been sleeping soundly for a while when a loud bang on the door awakened me. Immediately, I got up from my bed and headed toward the source of the noise. When I opened it, Lee walked right in without having to be asked.

“Hey, what do you think you are doing?” I asked after he comfortably settled down in my bed.

Even though he didn’t answer, he started snoring heavily on my bed a few moments later. I had no idea what time it was, but  I was stuck with something heavy on my thighs when I woke up. When I opened my eyes, it felt like there were a lot of cobwebs in front of me, and I couldn’t see correctly. I placed my hands on it and yelled in surprise when I discovered his legs were in my body.

In the morning, I woke up around four o’clock and prepared to go for a jog. My father’s house was equipped with a gym, but I chose to go for a jog every morning to get my blood flowing and clear my mind. It was something about the early air that cleansed my thoughts, and I needed it after what I had done the night before.

“Oh shit!” I exclaimed upon seeing him outside my room.

“Hi,” he greeted me.

For a brief time, he seemed to be looking at me as if I were a lovely ghost dressed in a bright suit. Following my observation of the dark bags beneath his eyes, I said, “Did you get any sleep?” I inquired because I sent him away in the middle of the night.

“What do you think, Selena?” Instead of providing me with an answer, he posed a question to me. Of course, I shrugged my shoulders as if I had any idea what was going on.

“Why don’t you tell me?”

“I couldn’t sleep well,” he confessed.

“Same with me. Have you found anything about my supposed fiance?”

“I’m sorry, but I couldn’t find anything about the man. I think your father lied to you about being engaged with someone from the Salcedo Group. As per my research, they wouldn’t agree to any fixed marriages,” he stated a fact.

“Dig deeper, and if we have to buy him out, I’ll be glad to do it,” I informed Lee about my desperation to get out of the marriage.

“I hope you don’t mind me asking, Selena, but why are you so against it?”

“I don’t have to marry for money because I’m already rich!”

“Yeah, you’re right, but I think your father just wanted to give you the best,” he mentioned.

“Whatever, but my decision is final, Lee. I am not going to marry anyone from the group!”

“Can you tell me why?”

I knew he was curious, but I couldn’t tell him about my reasons, or he would think I was a hopeless romantic or whatsoever. “Coffee?” I deviated from the topic, and he responded with a raised eyebrow. Did he know that it was only a tactic?

Lee shrugged his shoulders and said, “I already had a cup. I can get you a cup if you want one.”

“Sure,” I said and followed him downstairs. When he handed me the mug with a hot coffee, I accepted it.

“Can you tell me now why you don’t want to marry that guy from the Salcedo Group?”

“Because I don’t know him,” I told him the truth. There’s no way I would marry a stranger! “And I think it’s unfair to agree with the marriage when I am in love with someone else,” I said without thinking, and I only realized my mistake when he gasped for breath. Was it shocking to hear from someone like me?

“W-who is the lucky guy?”

“The one who betrayed my trust,” I replied.

“What about me?” Lee asked again, and I glared at him in response.

“Alright, since you have been asking the same question more than once, I think it’s only right, to be honest with you. I can’t marry someone like you, Lee.”

“Why not? Because I’m poor?”

“Yes,” I admitted the main reason why he’s out of the list for my future spouse.

“How about the things that happened between us?”

“Oh, the sex? It doesn’t mean anything, except for the fact that I’m so thankful for your service. Honestly, my urges to pleasure myself have slowed down because of you,” I stated a fact, and his expressions scared the shit out of me. He looked furious and ready to throttle my neck!

“Take back your words, or you are going to regret it,” he issued a threat.

“Come on, Lee. This is not the time for us to argue over a menial thing. Whoa, don’t tell me you’re one of the conservative men,” I teased him about his preference, and he was even more enraged.

“I am a conservative, Selena.”

“Really? I thought you’re the kind of man who’s always horny and ready to bed anyone whenever they felt like it!”

“I have had enough of your insults this morning,” he said and left without saying goodbye.

“I’m hoping we may become friends despite everything I said to you!” I shouted at him to catch his attention, but he didn’t hear me. Oh well, I shrugged off my shoulders and left the kitchen. I was almost at the door when I realized something and returned upstairs.

“What is it?” Lee glared at me when he opened the door to his bedroom after I kept on knocking.

“You are supposed to come with me,” I complained in front of him, and he narrowed his gaze towards me. “You are my bodyguard, Lee, and you are supposed to be with me all the time.”

“I am quitting today,” he announced, and when he widened the opening of the door, I saw his trolley.

For a moment, I was stunned at his announcement. I didn’t expect to hear it from him, especially when it’s still early in the morning. “What do you mean you are going to quit?” I asked in confusion.

“I’m resigning from my job,” he repeated.

“Lee, you can’t just quit anytime,” I protested.

“There’s no reason for me to stay longer.”

“What about our agreement? You agreed to make me pregnant as soon as possible!”

“You can just pay any other man to do the job, Selena,” he replied with a shrug.

“But I want you, I mean, I like your features, and for sure, my child wouldn’t look that bad if you are the father,” I explained, and Lee clenched his fist while glaring at me.

I was taken aback by the property where he took me after the wedding. From the exterior, this property seemed to be luxurious. It was constructed of grey brickwork and had white cedarwood ornamentation. Tall, circular windows allowed plenty of natural light to enter the residence, and they have been strategically placed throughout the structure in a reasonably symmetrical design. The property was furnished with a standard kitchen and three bathrooms, a large living room, two bedrooms, a small dining area, a library, and an oversized garage with plenty of parking spaces. The structure has a rectangular form to it, and beautifully landscaped grounds completely encircled it. A large number of smaller windows would let plenty of natural light enter the rooms below the roof. Besides the home itself, there was paved land around it with numerous party areas, such as a luxury grill and a campfire. I was amazed at the design, but it was expected for Liam to own something gorgeous. “Vera buil

The majority of the female guests were taken aback by the edginess of my wedding dress, but the majority of the male attendees were drawn to my cleavages. I shook my head in surprise when I realised that even married guys were staring. When a marching song began to play in the background, my father appeared behind me, and the two of us went together toward the red carpet that had been spread out on the ground. Over the years, he practiced hypocrisy, and he successfully convinced everyone that we were on good terms. “You should get an award for being the finest actor in the world, Daddy,” I said with my teeth gritted, and when I turned to look at him, he grinned at me. “It will be over soon,” he whispered back as if his statement would make a difference. I was so preoccupied with my predicament that I completely missed the presence of the guy waiting for me at the altar. I looked around for my groom, but I couldn’t seem to locate him anywhere. “Can you tell me where Robert is?” “T

The skyline was dotted with towering buildings, many constructed within the previous ten years or less. The city was seeing unprecedented growth in employment, which has received a great deal of attention. Several distinct cultures have left their imprints on education and the personality of the city as a whole. What was once a city of little variety has evolved into a fusion of everything. The sense of belonging to a heterogeneous society has made its imprint. One may choose from hundreds of clubs, theme restaurants, and diners. Those looking for something different could go sightseeing, touring the city, doing aerobics, or visiting one of the numerous other recreational places. “My parents can be talkative sometimes,” he suddenly said while he turned left in the next corner. “Your parents? Wait, are you saying that we are going to dine with them?” “Yes. We are heading towards one of your restaurants,” he said. I slapped his arm to question his motive, but he just ignored it. Th

Robert remained quiet and puckered his lips in response, and I frowned at him! Was he under the impression that he could intimidate me with a severe look on his face? He has to rethink his position! I stepped away as he walked towards me as if he was going to kiss me! As soon as he got close enough to kiss me, I ran upstairs like a coward and didn’t look back. An hour later, I went downstairs to talk to my father, who had just gotten home. It was up to me to persuade him that my marriage to Robert would be a complete catastrophe. The bodyguard stayed in the shadows but kept a close eye on me at all times. “Daddy, can we talk?” “Can you tell me what it is this time?” He inquired in a severe tone that made my palms shiver in terror every time he spoke. “I don’t get along with Robert, Daddy.” “You’re not required to do so. Just get married to him and let him save you from total humiliation! Your future is safe in Robert’s capable hands!” He said it in a matter-of-fact tone, which I

When Robert stared at me for a second, I thought he would rebut my accusation, but he remained staring at me, and it was uncomfortable. When he remained silent and just stared, I arched my brows at him and asked, “Are you not going to say anything?” “You used to like me when we were younger,” he said, implying that I had a crush on him in the past. I thought I would die of annoyance when he mentioned the ‘crush thing’ from the past. “It’s all in the past, Robert. While it is true that you are still good-looking, I don’t think I can survive living with you. You smelled like a dead person!” “Having body odour is normal, isn’t it?” “Oh, my God! Here we go again,” I let out a sigh of exasperation. When he tried to come closer to me, I yelled and turned around. I hurried towards the door, my hand covering my lips with the other hand. He had feet that smelled like a dead animal, and I felt sick to my stomach! Could he get any more repulsive? “Selena, wait!” “Stay where you are, please

Robert was rendered speechless, but it didn't take him long to change his expression. In a split second, he stared daggers at me, and the way he looked at my neck, and I was worried he would strangle me to death. For a moment, I felt relieved that my father hired a new bodyguard who was probably lurking near us to save me anytime. "Are you looking for the bodyguard? I'm sorry to disappoint you, Selena, but he's not here now and wouldn't be able to save you. Do you understand what I am trying to tell you?" "Yes!" I replied, and without any warning, I ran towards the safety of my room. When I heard him call my name again, my hands shook in fear. When I looked behind my shoulders, I saw him move a little, and as he got closer to me, I became so nervous and almost peed on my clothes. I pointed my finger at him and warned him incessantly not to come closer, but he merely grinned as if there was something funny going on. "Stop where you are right now!" I shouted at him. "Selena, what's
