Kathrina POV
I hid my annoyance when the bell was tolled to call off the lunch break. They really need to extend the lunch break. For crying out loud, thirty minutes is a bloody short time for lunch break.
"Hey, Kathrina!" Lita's voice echoed in the cafeteria which had been emptied in the wink of an incense. I turned to stare at her running up to me with her bouncy curls. She had left me earlier before Hayden came because she had something important to do.
"Why are you still here? Lunch break is over and…"she paused as she stared at Hayden.
"Hello," he waved at her and Lita smiled and I knew it was fake.
"Hi," she said before darting her curious gaze to me. "Mrs Hall asked us all to assemble in the art room." I nodded and stood up.
"How about we continue our discussion after school?" I asked Hayden, ignoring Lita's stunned expression.
"That would be great," Hayden said.
"See you after school then." I held Lita's arm and we both left.
After that day, I and Hayden became friends and sometimes hung out together. Lita couldn't convince me to stay away from him who she feels weird about but actually, she started finding him okay and that was quite a blessing to me because she ceased her paranoidness.
"You don't seem to have a boyfriend," Hayden told me one day while we watched some boys play basketball at the basketball court. I glanced at Lita who probably heard him but was focused on cheering at the moment.
"You're right," I said.
"You've never had a boyfriend before?" He asked, obviously curious.
"No." I answered.
"Why? No one caught your interest all this while?" He asked this time peering at me.
"Maybe," I shrugged and we chuckled.
"Lita got a boyfriend?"
"She recently broke up with her twenty-fourth boyfriend," I whispered into his ear and he grinned. " Ever since we clocked fourteen and her mother gave her permission to start dating, she's been changing boyfriends like clothes."
"He was a jerk, Kathrina," Lita said and I knew she probably heard what I whispered.
"The dick was just over me all the time. Wanted to get under my skirt," she scoffed.
"You'll find someone better than the asshole," Hayden said trying to soothe her to my amazement.
"Oh, yeah. I already found a replacement. Honestly, he's ten times better than my ex."
"Good then," Hayden said and winked at me.
"So what about you, Hayden? Got a girlfriend?" Lita asked and he shook his head." What? Why?"
"Waiting for my soulmate," he said and I raised an eyebrow at him.
"So_" Lita glanced at me."_found your soulmate yet?"
"Yes," he muttered, folding his arms and glancing at the players. Who could his soulmate be?
"Whatever. I really don't believe in soulmates." She rolled her eyes and continued cheering.
A month later, we both went out to have dinner at the town's diner. After the dinner, I asked him while he drove me home in his jeep.
"Is your home around mine?" I glanced at him and he nodded. I actually asked because I really don't know where he lives in this town and I felt that it wasn't okay.
He halted as I looked out through the window. I darted my gaze to him with a questionable expression. He smiled.
"Let's watch the stars for a while, they're many up tonight," he said and I chuckled. I had actually told him jokingly a week ago to watch out for when the sky is going to be filled with stars because I did love to watch it. I never thought he would take my words seriously though I was looking forward to a day to watch the stars with him.
"Get down," he said as he got out of the car and went over to the back of his jeep.
"The stars are beautiful," I said when I walked up to him and stood beside him. He chuckled.
"None of them are as pretty as you," he told me, making me avert my gaze from the sky to him.
"Am I really that H.H which you can't keep your eyes off from?" He asked me,staring at the sky as he slipped his hands into his pockets.
"What? 'H.H'?"
"Hot and handsome," he said with a smile as he darted his gaze to me. I laughed and hit him playfully on the arm.
"Kathrina," he called and held my hands. My hands twitched a bit. I've always had that strange sensation whenever he touches me but each time he touches me, the sensation I get becomes less than what I had felt before. He cupped my face and gave me a quick kiss, making me blink intermittently in surprise. Yes, it's actually my first kiss.
"Hayden…"
"I like you, Kathrina," he said. "I've had this strong feeling for you ever since I met you. It keeps getting stronger every time I see you and I feel like I'll explode if I don't confess my feelings to you," He paused. "Though I don't know if you feel the same way for me. I just couldn't bottle up my feelings anymore. My soulmate…that's you, Kathrina."
I felt butterflies in my tummy as he stared at me then brought down his gaze to my lips making me swallow hard. He caressed my cheeks with his thumb and I felt chills down my spines. Fuck, his touch just had this exciting tingling effect on me. His sweet scent struck me as he leaned and I inhaled.
"I…I…um…" I stuttered and paused as I could feel my face getting hot. I smiled nervously trying to keep up with his gaze. " I like you too, Hayden." I watched as his perfect lips curled into a smile and he slid his arm around my little waist, pulling me closer. He ran his nose down to my neck and sucked in, sending a shivering sensation down my body. I placed my hands on his chest as he lifted his gaze to me. He cupped my jaw and pressed his lips on mine. Gosh, I was really wishing for this moment. Our tongues tangling sent sparks all through me and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
He broke the kiss and said in a whisper.
"Let's date, Kathrina. I want to make you mine." I chuckled softly. He continued kissing me again and I pulled down his face, deepening the kiss.
He abruptly broke the kiss which barely lasted for thirty minutes like I had wished for and darted his gaze to the forest, almost startling me.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked but he glanced around as if looking out for someone. He returned his gaze to me and inhaled what I couldn't make out of. What's happening? I asked myself in my mind.
Writer's POV Some days later, the Salvador family was having lunch at the dining room with Rylan seated next to his girlfriend, Kathrina and Caroline and Zita. Madlyn had invited them to come over to have lunch with them. They made jokes and chatted while having lunch round the table and Kathrina felt really happy. After dinner, Kathrina walked out with Rylan, his hand locked with hers, both walking behind Caroline and Zita."Guys, I'm leaving tonight," Zita said when they stepped on the lawn and they gave her a shocking expression."Why?" Kathrina asked."Hey, we never spoke about that," Caroline said, feigning annoyance. "Well, it's because…I've got no reason to stay back anymore. I could return to where I came from and carry on living my normal life.""You want to leave, for real?" Rylan asked in disbelief. "I remember you changing your mind a couple of times before.""I'm serious this time, Rylan. I'm leaving…""You're not leaving," a familiar voice said and they turned to see
Kathrina POVEverything has been peaceful since Zoey's death. My life had changed. I live a good life with my family. I've got my best friend, Lita, back and I have gotten new friends I'll keep forever, they are Caroline and Zita. I just wish Zita gets to spend more time with us.On a sunny morning, Rylan and I followed Mrs Fox's car behind then stopped at the town's entrance gate. She was leaving Laketown for good. I had no idea that she stayed back for two months after she got to know who I really was and about the demise of her daughter Lexie. I had got a call from her yesterday which made me so happy and I had told Rylan to follow me so we helped her pack her things and see her off at the entrance gate. When Rylan pulled over by the road behind her car, we got out and walked up to her leaning on her car."You know, I am happy I stayed for sometime. I was able to experience inner peace and happiness more than I had expected. Kathrina, I'm happy I got to know you and you made me be
Zita POVAfter Kathrina left that morning, I saw a big disappointment on Hayden's face. I don't know why but I felt pity for him. I couldn't help it but followed him to his place a few days later when I went to see Kathrina in their college. He happened to catch me and invited me into his house for a cup of tea."I wasn't expecting you'd follow me to my place. You're Zita, right?" He asked, u nodded as I took the cup of tea from him."Are you okay?""If you think I'm not, then you're right. I'm not going to act tough after I was rejected by my mate. It hurts. It's all my fault though.""I thought you wouldn't give up on her?""I was thinking about that too. Actually I had no intention of giving up on her before even when I knew she had hated me. But that day, when she rejected me, I saw the firmness in her gaze and knew she really had no feelings for me again. And when she took Rylan's hand and left with him, I knew I've lost her, forever.""So, what's your plans now?""Giving up. Sto
Kathrina POVThe next day, I went to Caroline's house and she said Zita was in the backyard at the river bank. I went there and saw her holding a small steel silver pot.I walked up to her and faked a cough, causing her to glance at me. "Hey, are you okay?" I asked her.She nodded and smiled. "It's still warm in here." I stared at the pot then it dawned to me what was in there. I looked up at her and she shook her head."That's Zoey's ashes?""Yeah. I was reluctant to throw it into the water. I'm happy you're here. I've gotten the strength to do what I want now."I chuckled. She opened the pot, dipped her hand into it and took a handful of ashes then threw them into the water. She did so till the pot was empty and dropped the pot in the water. We both watched the pot as it flowed on the water surface. "You know, Zoey was the only family member I had in the entire world," she said after a while. "Our parents are dead. We both left the vampire world because we didn't want to be bound t
Kathrina POV "Let's meet up tonight. Come alone and I'll spare your mother. You can send a message when you're done thinking about it. Your life in exchange for your mom's, sweetheart," Zoey said and hung up before I could say a word and I stared at them. "I'm going to meet her," I said to Caroline and quickly sent a message to Zoey, stating my agreement to her request. "Kathrina, going alone ti see Zoey is freaking risky," Caroline said. I shrugged. "I don't care…" "I'm coming with you," I heard Rylan said, almost yelling as he barged into the house. "No, Rylan. My mom's life is risk here. Zoey wants only me to come." "I knew this would happen someday. I won't let anything bad happen to either you or your mother, Kathrina." "Wait, how did you know that Kathrina had a problem?" Zita asked. "They are mates and their bond have grew stronger since something happened one certain night," I heard Caroline said to Zita in a whisper. "I felt you were in trouble, Kathrina," Rylan said
Kathrina POVSome days later, I returned home from school and while trying to make something to have for lunch, my mom got a call and I watched her go far away and answered the call. Since then, she started acting strange. Morley talked to me one day about it and he had observed that she's been getting a couple of strange calls from an unknown number. When I tried to talk to her about it, she said it's nothing.A week later, we were chatting and telling jokes in her Cafe when her mood changed to a gloom after her phone beeped and she glanced at the phone screen."Mom, are you okay?" I asked."Um, yeah. Why ask that?""You've been acting a little bit weird these days. Is there a problem?""Nah. It's just the little stress I face sometimes. You know handling the Cafe alone on some days when it's filled is not really easy peasy. But I do appreciate it when you guys do help out on the weekends, especially you, sweetheart.""Hm. But I've told you to get a sales girl. It would relieve you
