I was dreaming

Chapter 2 – I was Dreaming.

Shakira’s POV

I had a wonderful life with everything in the right places and my parents weren’t biased when it came to their children's happiness. And the work they wanted to do in the future. My two brothers ended up doing their businesses and I ventured into business as well it was growing flourishingly and my brothers wondered why. I could sign every business deal by just meeting investors and it was a deal.

People could hardly look at me twice without a blush appearing on their faces and I knew why, my parents always told me that I was one in the world and that my beauty could be compared to none. Two years into the business and my company already had three branches in two cities not including where I stayed. I was a beauty with wealth and I could have any man I wanted in the world right? But that wasn’t the case, even the celebrity men and the faces of the country, I was none of them as men that I would want to be with.

This went on till I turned twenty-seven and my brothers and parents were getting worried that I would never get or pick a boyfriend, at the rate it was going. And so, they decided to look for men that I might be interested in but I wasn’t interested in their endeavor. I met with several men doing my business and the ones that I might have had an interest in were married men. And so I gave up on searching so my family could take over.

The day I turned twenty-eight, my brothers asked me out to a club I celebrate my birthday, which I disagreed with to the last degree but they ended up pulling me in. And so here I stood at the gate of this club, standing between my two brothers just as in the way we had appeared on this earth. I had never visited any club even in my school days, it was always my books and food. And when I had time, I would watch movies and laugh and dance while watching music videos.

That was all I needed according to me but the world disagreed with me and so I walked hand in hand with my brothers into this club. They wouldn’t leave my hand because I might vanish right before their eyes and find me in my house chewing popcorn and watching movies. This was my only wish as we entered the heat or should I say hell?

As soon as we stepped in, the loud and heated room with bodies swinging from one place to another turned silent, all music stopped and the dancing people stopped dancing. I looked on amazed but something cropped into my mind and so I looked at my brother’s faces and they had a smile on their faces. I knew just then that I was in for a good show for my party and if it was the best or not, I had to accept it as it would be.

As I was contemplating what it could be, the people separated to both sides and I had a clear view of the band which was playing but there were no people besides the band. Just then, a young man dressed in a black shirt and black trousers. He was wearing black shades on his face stepped out from the people and walked toward us. He had a microphone in his hand and as soon as he got to us, he held his hand towards me and my brothers left my hand and kept them in his. Then, they both whispered into my ears,

“Have fun.”

Just then, I started panicking, I looked at their faces and shook my head but they nodded approvingly and my elder brother whispered into my ear,

“Kira trust us. Today might be the best day of your life apart from the day you were born. Just have fun it won’t kill you.”

I had no choice, I had to accept my fate as it was. What could I do? So here I was walking hand in hand with a stranger and a man apart from my family. I believe he felt my sweaty hand and so he squeezed my palm gently assuring me. We got to the platform and a light appeared on us, I wasn’t afraid of the crowd but it wasn’t a place I had ever thought of being at so my heart couldn’t stay still and calm. I was in my world imagining what could be the worst out cone when I saw the people down there whispering among each other, some smiling which were the men, and some frowning and as I would have it, the women.

I got that a lot on several occasions and I was used to that, the man beside me then squeezed my hand one more time before speaking into the microphone,

“Here, in my hand is the most beautiful birthday girl, today just as twenty-eight years ago, such a lady was born to the world. She is an ambitious lady, intelligent, and has wealth but she is as humble as a newborn sheep who hasn’t known his mother. One thing, it will be my honor to pronounce to you is that “she has had no boyfriend since she was born. And so today, I am introducing spinster to the world and to an audaciously-bred young bachelor to try his luck with her.” You all, have fun, everything you eat and drink is the house.”

The people shout Happily and she looks in the way of the band four young men appear from backstage and they bow to me before they take their seats behind their instruments. He finally left my hand and I made my way to the bar looking around for my brother, embarrassment drawn all over my body. I couldn’t see them around so, I took a seat and looked in the way of the band which started to play at that instance.

Ultimately, I heard his voice, the voice seeped right into my mind and entered right into my body and I couldn’t understand what was happening to my body. I looked in his way and there he was looking right at me, he winked as soon as his eyes met mine and I felt I was dreaming.
