Wala akong choice.

“Our third quarter losses are higher than projected, ma’am. Several key projects are delayed. The real estate division... well, tumigil na halos ang development ng flagship sites natin sa Cebu at Davao. Investors are starting to call.”

“We understand you want to honor your father’s wishes. But surely you see the situation. Perhaps an interim CEO would serve the company better during this critical time. Someone more... seasoned.”

Parang tinusok ang dibdib ni Cassandra. Pero hindi siya pumatol. Tinignan niya si Salcedo ng diretso. “My father entrusted Vale Industries to me. I don’t intend to let him down. I appreciate your concern, Mr. Salcedo. But I am here to stay.”

Nagtinginan ang mga board members. May nagkibit-balikat.

He’s waiting in your office. The board requested him to review the company’s situation.”

Napahinto si Cassandra. “Consultant?” kunot-noo niyang tanong.

“Ms. Vale. Finally, we meet.”

“I didn’t ask for a consultant,” diretsong sabi ni Cassandra, pilit pinapanatili ang authority sa boses niya.

Damien smirked. “And I didn’t invite myself. The board thinks you could use a fresh perspective. I’m here to offer that. Nothing more… unless you want more.”

Umirap si Cassandra. Great. A smooth talker. “Okay, you’re here. Let’s hear this fresh perspective.”

“Your company’s bleeding slowly. Your competitors? They’re circling like vultures. And the board? Half of them are waiting for you to stumble.”

Masakit, pero totoo. Hindi siya umimik.

“But,” dagdag ni Damien, leaning forward, eyes sharp, “that means you still have a chance. I don’t take on clients I don’t believe in. You may not like me, Cassandra, but I can help you.”

“Why would you care?” tanong niya, halatang nagdududa. “You don’t know me. You don’t know my father.”

“You’re right. But I know power. And I know what it looks like when someone’s fighting to keep it.”

“Fine, Mr. Kade. Show me what you’ve got. But don’t expect me to make this easy for you.”

Ngumiti si Damien. “I wouldn’t dream of it.”

  • In the Shadow of Power   Chapter 17-The Final Trap

“Cass, today’s the day,” mahina niyang sabi, inilapag ang tasa sa table. “This is it,” panimula ko, tinitigan ang team na pinaka pinagkakatiwalaan namin. “We’ve been on the defensive for too long. Tonight, babagsak ang mga anino. Lucien and his team will believe they’re about to win. Pero bawat galaw n

CASSANDRA’S POVTahimik ang umaga, pero sa bawat tunog ng wall clock sa opisina ko, para akong binubulungan ng oras: Gumalaw ka na.I stood by the glass wall, city lights fading as dawn broke. Sa ibaba, the city was waking up. Damien entered quietly, carrying two cups of black coffee.“Hindi ka pa natulog, Cass,” he said, worried but steady.“I don’t need sleep,” I replied, taking the coffee. “I need results.”---THE WAR ROOM....By 6 AM, our core team filled the war room. The air was thick with anticipation.“This ends today,” I began, voice low but firm. “No more waiting for their attacks. We hit them where it hurts — financially, legally, and publicly. All at once.”Damien stepped forward, pointing at the giant screens filled with charts and data.“We’ve mapped their weak points. Offshore funds, shady partnerships, regulatory gaps. We exploit them all. Simultaneously.”My eyes swept across the room.“No one leaves until ever
