“Do you think I’m just wasting my time here? That I should just let the board replace me?”

Damien crossed his arms, leaning casually against the edge of the desk. “If I thought you were a waste of time, I wouldn’t be here.”

“Okay,” bulong niya. “Let’s say I agree. Ano’ng plano mo?”

Damien pushed off from the desk, lumapit sa table at binuksan ang laptop. “Your problem isn’t just the company’s losses. It’s that no one believes you can lead it out of this mess. Not the board. Not the investors. Not even your own senior team.”

“Thanks for the pep talk,” sarkastikong sagot ni Cassandra.

“I don’t sugarcoat things. That’s not what you need. What you need is a win — fast, and big enough to shut them up.”

Tahimik si Cassandra, nakikinig. “Go on.”

Binuksan ni Damien ang isang presentation. “There’s a project your father put on hold — the Greenline Tech Park. The board didn’t want it. Too risky daw, too expensive. But now, with the right partners, it could save Vale. We pitch it as a bold new move — a comeback story.”

Napakunot ang noo ni Cassandra. “The numbers don’t add up. Hindi kakayanin ng cash flow natin ngayon.”

“That’s where I come in.” Damien tapped the screen. “I have connections — venture partners who would be interested. But they’ll only talk if they see that Vale is serious. You and I need to present a united front. We show them you’re not some grieving heiress playing CEO. We show them you’re a fighter.”

Naglakad si Cassandra palapit, tiningnan ang slides. “You really think this can work?”

Damien met her gaze. “It has to. Kasi kung hindi, they’ll tear Vale apart before the year ends.”

Huminga siya ng malalim. Sa totoo lang, takot na takot siya. Pero alam niyang hindi siya pwedeng umatras. Hindi ngayon.

“Alright, Mr. Kade. Terms?”

We’re partners. I advise, you decide. But if I say a move is suicide, you listen. Deal?”

Tahimik si Cassandra. Ilang segundo silang nagkatitigan — isang silent challenge, isang silent agreement. Tapos iniabot niya ang kamay niya. “Deal.”

📌 The next day...

Cassandra watched him, amazed at how effortlessly he commanded the room.

“Vale Industries is more than a legacy company. It’s a brand ready for reinvention,” sabi ni Damien habang pinapakita ang slide ng Greenline Tech Park. “We’re offering you a seat at the table of that reinvention.”

Tumango si Cassandra, nagdagdag. “And we’re offering transparency. This is not about patching holes. This is about building something that lasts.”

May nagtaas ng kamay. “Ms. Vale, Mr. Kade, what assurance do we have that the board is aligned?”

Saglit na katahimikan.

Cassandra straightened, her voice steady. “I am the CEO. The board can advise, but I make the final call. And I say Vale is ready for this.”

📌 Later, in the car...

Tahimik ang biyahe pabalik ng HQ. Sa wakas, nagsalita si Damien. “You were good in there.”

“Good?” tanong ni Cassandra, napangiti kahit pagod. “Akala ko ba no sugarcoating?”

Damien smirked. “Fine. You were great.”

Tumahimik ulit.

Her hair was slightly messy, lips swollen from our kisses, blouse half-buttoned.At ako? I brushed a strand of hair off her cheek. She didn’t flinch. She didn’t pull away.It was the smallest thing, but to me, it meant everything.---Nakahawak ako sa kamay niya, habang yung isa kong braso nakasalo sa likod niya. She had curled up slightly against me, the way people do when they’re safe. And that was the word I kept coming back to:Safe. Not just her, but me too.I’ve spent years trying to be what people expected — a businessman, a strategist, a s

  • In the Shadow of Power   Chapter 17-The Final Trap

“Cass, today’s the day,” mahina niyang sabi, inilapag ang tasa sa table. “This is it,” panimula ko, tinitigan ang team na pinaka pinagkakatiwalaan namin. “We’ve been on the defensive for too long. Tonight, babagsak ang mga anino. Lucien and his team will believe they’re about to win. Pero bawat galaw n

  • In the Shadow of Power   Chapter 16-The Offensive Begins

CASSANDRA’S POVTahimik ang umaga, pero sa bawat tunog ng wall clock sa opisina ko, para akong binubulungan ng oras: Gumalaw ka na.I stood by the glass wall, city lights fading as dawn broke. Sa ibaba, the city was waking up. Damien entered quietly, carrying two cups of black coffee.“Hindi ka pa natulog, Cass,” he said, worried but steady.“I don’t need sleep,” I replied, taking the coffee. “I need results.”---THE WAR ROOM....By 6 AM, our core team filled the war room. The air was thick with anticipation.“This ends today,” I began, voice low but firm. “No more waiting for their attacks. We hit them where it hurts — financially, legally, and publicly. All at once.”Damien stepped forward, pointing at the giant screens filled with charts and data.“We’ve mapped their weak points. Offshore funds, shady partnerships, regulatory gaps. We exploit them all. Simultaneously.”My eyes swept across the room.“No one leaves until ever

But I was wrong.A message arrived on my private line. No greeting, no sender ID — just two words:“We’re back.”---SCENE: THE GHOST FROM THE PASTThe message shook me more than I wanted to admit.Damien found me in my office, staring at the screen.“Cassandra?”I showed him the message. His jaw tightened.“Who?”“The shadows I thought I buried. People who nearly destroyed my father’s legacy.”---DAMIEN’S POVI could see the storm building in her again. But this was different. This was personal.“Tell me everything,” I said. She hesitated, but then the walls came down.---CASSANDRA’S POV“When my father was sick, years ago... there was a group. Former allies. Now.”---DAMIEN’S POVI came in, already knowing something was wrong. Nakita ko ang screen niya — headline after headline meant to fracture everything we built.“Leak?” tanong ko.She nodded, jaw clenched. “Someone from inside. Someone high enough to have access.”“Wesson’s trying to strike back through whispers and betrayal.”Her eyes darkened. “Then let’s smoke the traitors out.”---SCENE: STRATEGY HUDDLEWe pulled in the core team.
