If the coldness in someone’s eyes could freeze you to death, I would be frozen meat right now. The look in Jake’s eyes scared me. His grey eyes were so frigid that I felt so intimidated.

“I waited for two hours worrying about where you might be,” he said impassively but with sarcasm. “Little did I know you were having a cozy time with Conrad.”

He waited for two hours? On this cold night? I couldn’t help feeling guilty. “He saw me outside the bar and invited me to his place.”

His jaw clenched. “His place,”

“We only talked,” I replied quickly before he could form dirty stuff in his head, but my attempt was met with his dismissive scoff.

His lips curled into a sarcastic smile. “How would I know?”

“Because I’m telling you,” I snapped, getting riled up by the implication in his tone. Did he think Conrad would make a move on me? I took a deep breath, trying to diffuse the growing argument. “Can we talk about this without turning it into a scene?” I walked inside the house.
