“What the fuck?” the look in his eyes told me that I didn’t just imagine the voice I heard. But the way he was looking at me, did it really come from my lips?
He glared at me for what felt like minutes before I heard the voice again.
“Untie me and let me go!” it demanded. Strong and confidently.
I didn’t understand, it was my voice, with something else coming through. I wasn’t speaking yet, I was.
Catching himself again, Winston took a breath, “You almost had me there! For a minute I thought you were possessed.” He laughed before he continued trying to undo my button.
A scream left my lips as pain I’ve never felt before radiated through me. From my head to my toes, to my fingertips.
My fingertips. I looked up to my hands where I could feel the pain, and fear and shock overtook me.
Winston following my eyes looked up. “What the fuck is that?”
My hands weren’t my hands. Where my fingernails should have been there were claws. Long and sharp as if my nails grew into razorblades in the minutes I’d been restrained.
Winston was frozen in fear and I used this to my advantage and I bucked my hips as hard as I could. Sending him flying towards my now clawed hands and with one swift motion I brought the claws down, slicing through the cord that bound my hands and down Winston’s face.
I heard his scream, followed by his blood splashing over my face. “You fucking bitch, you fucking monster!”
Getting up quickly and running past him, I sprinted into my room, quickly grabbing clothes and changing. I filled my backpack with as much as I could and grabbed the stash of money I had hidden behind a broken beam. I heard footsteps in the hall and my door bang “You’re in for it now, the police are on their way. There is nowhere for you to run. I don't know how you done that but you will regret it”
My blood ran cold and all I could think about was that I would be portrayed as the unhinged crazy orphan who attacked my carer for no reason, I need to get out!
‘I can help’… A whisper, I could barely hear it, but the words were there, they happened. Looking around, I couldn’t see anyone in my small room so figuring it was just a voice from the tv or something I went back to packing my things.
I heard footsteps receding from my door. Winston has probably gone to make it look like an attack, I thought.
This may be my only chance. Throwing the door open, I made a run for the front door as I heard thundering footsteps behind me. I just made it and got out when he snagged the hood of my jacket. “Shit” I screamed, unzipping it as he tugged and he fell backwards giving me time to run.
I let my feet guide me, taking me as fast as I could down the road that led away from my current accommodation. Looking back, realising I wasn’t being followed, I slowed down and my heart sank. I hate that place, but if I leave will Kevin being there be enough to stop Winston going after Susan? It’s too late to think of that now, I can’t go back, they wouldn’t let me after he says I’ve attacked him.
My thoughts were cut short at the sound of sirens coming towards me. “Shit!” I muttered out loud. “I’ve got to get out of here.” Turning towards the forest that was on the edge of the small town I was in, I decided my best chance was staying hidden among the trees until I made it to the bus stop and caught the first bus out of town.
After about 20 minutes of walking, I realised I didn’t know where I was going. I had strayed too far from the road and now didn’t know which direction I was heading.
“Well, this is just great! It is getting dark and I’m alone, lost and walking through the woods. Hello, every horror movie ever!”
A few more minutes of walking and I heard footsteps a little way behind me. I jumped behind the closest tree, glancing slyly behind it when the noise stopped. There was nobody there, was I hearing things? “I’m getting so paranoid” I breathed.
Gathering myself, I continued until the sun started to set and darkness started spreading across the sky. Grabbing a jumper from my bag I threw it over my head.
“I’ll need to find somewhere to sleep, I can’t keep walking through the night” I murmured through the fabric. Pulling my head through the top something in the distance caught my eye, it was just a split second, but it looked like eyes in a bush up ahead.
Probably a fox, I thought. “Oh god, the night life is going to freak the shit out of me”.
Walking on a little more I notice the sounds of the night-time forest was much different than the day. It was more eerily soothing. I could hear the scream of the owls out hunting, the sound of critters that scurried about the ground, rustling through the leaves and dirt, and I could hear the flapping sound of bat wings flying overhead . I love being outside and to be honest the thought of sleeping under the stars was kind of exciting.
In my daydream I didn’t notice, until it was too late, there was once again footsteps coming up behind me. At the last second, I heard a twig snap and turned around quickly, catching the eyes that I seen looking at me earlier from the bushes.
It was not a fox, this was bigger. A lot bigger.
This was a wolf. Bigger than any wolf I’d ever seen, and it was stood less than 10 feet away from me. Just watching me.
It must have been a few minutes that we just glared at each other, but it felt like hours, until I unknowingly took a step back. My body moving on its own. As I did it glanced at my foot and shook its head.
Wait, did this wild wolf just tell me no?
I took another small step and it seemed to roll its eyes at me.
‘Trust him’ the whisper came again, and I looked franticly around.
“Whose there!” I screamed. This was getting too much. Looking back to the wolf it seemed to be walking away. Letting out a breath of relief, I loosened my tense shoulders.
I took this as my time to leave while I could. I took one look back, watching the wolf walk behind a tree. As I turned away to start running, I heard a sickening crack, then another.
It sounded like bones breaking. I looked towards the wolf and stepped forward.
Is it okay? Did it get trapped? That’s when I noticed from behind the tree, the hand of a man grabbing the tree and as he stepped out, I seen fur receding into his skin.
It took a few seconds for me to come to terms with what was happening. For a moment I just stood there staring at this naked man. His dark brown, tousled hair hung over his forehead just above the sparkling deep blue eyes that looked like I was looking into a lagoon at midnight, the eyes that I had seen in the bushes earlier.
My cheeks heated as I took in his form.
About 6'2 with a chiselled jaw and a smile that would take your breath away. He didn’t look much older than 20, though his body was built as if it was sculpted by a god.
“Who are you?” He spoke tearing me from my thoughts and back to what just happened. I couldn’t stop the scream that left my lips, or the fear that overtook me. What the hell is happening. I turned and ran again, as fast as I could.
“Wait.” I heard him shout, but my legs didn’t let me stop.
Up ahead I heard cars and my stomach had butterflies at the thought of help being so close. I broke through the tree line, ready to wave down a car before I realised it was too late. I couldn’t stop.
I didn’t feel anything, but my vision was spinning. Blurs of colour flashed as if I was on a funfair ride that was spinning too fast. Then all of a sudden it stopped and I was looking at the sky.
My eyes started to cloud, and I looked towards the forest in time to see the strange man sprout fur and change into a wolf and run off before darkness overtook me.
Aleister’s POV “Yo dipshit. Are you on patrol tonight?” Liam said coming into the room shoving toast into his mouth. “Dude close your mouth, I just had the room cleaned. Yeah, I’m on the south side tonight why?” Shoving me over on my sofa he threw his feet on the table looking over to my screen and rolling his eyes. “Don’t you ever do anything other than study? I was talking to Leon, and he said if its okay with you, can we switch up tonight. I’m over east beside the human forest. It’s a guaranteed easy night, but Cassie is working south, and I think she might be the one, man.” Looking at my brother I rolled my eyes “Wasn’t Steph the one? Or wasn’t it Alicia? Oh no wait, it was Heather” I laughed. “Dick! I thought they were, but I swear man, Cassie is just such a babe and she is playing hard to get.” “Fine I’ll switch just this once, but you owe me. You know its boring over by the human forest.” “You’re the best brother EVER. But don’t tell Leon or Nate I said that. I wanna liv
Aleister POV “Wait” I tried to shout but even in human form she was so fast. I took off after her while opening a mind link. “Leon, she doesn’t know. I shifted to try and talk to her, but she doesn’t know she’s a wolf or what we are, but she’s seen me and bolted” I screamed down the link panicked. “Shit Aleister. You need to get her. If she tells anyone or if she fucking shifts in public it will get back to the hunters. You need to stop her. Kill her if you need to. I’m sending more men.” I cut the link about to shift when I seen her exit the tree line. I heard the screeching sound of tires followed by the sound of her hitting off the front of a vehicle. “I don’t think that will be necessary. She just got hit be a car on the road.” I linked Leon. “Good. Get out of there.” He answered angrily and cut the link. I walked over to the tree line to see what had happened. Seeing her lay on the ground, she was covered in blood looking at the stars. I was about to leave when I seen her
Leon POV For the next few hours, I just get a feeling of unease and can’t seem to focus. I got up and walked over to gaze out of my window until I feel the link from Aleister again. “Leon, the girl, I think she’s a wolf but hasn’t shifted. I can’t smell which pack she would be from, and she doesn’t smell like a rogue. What do I do?” Shit, if she’s not alone or a runaway she could lead others here. “Just follow her a bit longer. If she turns towards the forest drive her out. The last thing we need is more unknown wolves trying to get on to our territory.” I snapped, feeling like shit right after as I felt him cut the link. Crap, I hope he doesn’t think I’m annoyed at him. I paced in my office for what seemed like hours waiting on Aleister giving me an update. “He is smart and strong. Don’t worry about him. We have trained him well.” My wolf Khaos reminded me. I’ll just sit down and get some more plans started, I thought but quickly a link opened with Aleister who was shouting in
Leon POV “Come in.” I grunted, followed by Eric popping his head through the door slowly as if he was expecting me to throw something. “What has your thong up your ass dear Alpha?” he joked, grinning until he noticed the look in my eye. Clearing his throat, he stepped into the door and set something on the floor. “Seriously, what has happening Leon?” I looked at him a few minutes before looking to Aleister and he followed my eyes. Aleister was just staring into the beer bottle as if waiting on a genie coming out to grant him wishes. “Is he okay? Is this about the girl you mindlinked to find?” he asked I was about to speak when Aleister threw his bottle across the room. “She was a wolf. She just didn’t know it. I should have seen the signs in her eyes. If I had of taken my time, spoken to her gently, she wouldn’t have run. She could have discovered who she was.” Eric looked at him and then to me. 'This has really gotten to him, hasn’t it?’ Eric mindlinked me, and I gave him a nod.
Leon POV I opened a mind link to Aleister. “Al, did you leave a backpack in my office?” “I left it in the hall, I think Eric left it by your door, I told you I grabbed the girls things. I figured we might find out who she is. I seen it sitting at the door of your office when I left.” He said agitated, when I remembered he said something about it before Eric came in. “Right, sorry. I forgot. I saw this bag and didn’t know where it came from. I’ll check it and let you know in the morning if I find anything. Get some rest” I cut the link and made my way over to the bag. Khaos was acting weird, pacing in my head. “What is with you?” I asked annoyed. ‘I don’t know Leon. Something is off here but I don’t know what it is.’ I lifted the bag and was hit again with the sweet scent. I opened her bag to find a few items of clothing, not much, some rolled up cash, again not much and a few books. I was so lost in the sweet scent that, before I knew what was going on, I realised Khaos had ta
Juvia POV Hearing the sound of machines beeping, I started to realise I was no longer on the road watching the stars overhead. I tried to move but it hurt me all over to do so. Opening my eyes slowly, I was blinded by a white glowing surrounding. “I’m in the hospital?” I questioned with a raspy voice. “Oh sweetheart, your awake. It was so touch and go for a while we didn’t know if you were going to wake up.” I looked over to see an elderly nurse looking at a chart. “Would you like a drink of water?” she asked sweetly. I nodded and she made her way to the hall and came back with a cup of water and a straw. “Sip it, dear. You have been out for a full week. You were in a very nasty car accident, but you pulled through, thank the heavens, and you seem to be healing extremely well. You have a fractured skull, a broken wrist, a fractured ankle and a few broken ribs. One rib punctured one of your lungs but your surgery obviously went well, and it was repaired.” As I listened to her, I
Juvia POV I jumped up and looked around. There was nobody there. It was the same voice I remember from the forest. ‘Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you’ “Who is there? Who are you?” I shouted into my empty room and when I got no reply, I grabbed the button to call the nurse who came rushing in. “What's wrong?” This nurse wasn’t like the one who was in this morning. This middle-aged woman with dark brown hair and a long nose looked like she would rather stab me than help me so she could be a quiet night. “There is someone in my room” I shouted out panicked. “Someone is here. She spoke to me a moment ago. Someone is in here.” The nurse looked at me as if I had stolen her kid and threw it into traffic. She walked over to the bathroom and checked behind all the curtains. “Miss Simone, there isn’t anyone else here. Go to sleep before I have a nurse give you a sedative” she said in a tone of annoyance. ‘She can’t see me, not unless you shift, and I wouldn’t do that here. You’ll likely
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” Rang out over the crowd of people. He looked around, his tail wagging. Walking over to him I patted his head. “Happy birthday kiddo. Go get changed and come join your party.” We heard a crash as Liam fell through the tree line. “And here folks we have the loser!” I laughed along with the others. The boys went to get changed and I started to mingle with guest. It was a nice afternoon and there was plenty of drinks consumed into the evening. Everyone seemed to be having fun and dancing Aleister was flicking between people and it looked like he was having a good time. As the night continued though, I could not stop thinking about the girl in the hospital, but my thoughts were cut short by an unease in my stomach and a smell in the air. I walked over to Eric. The look on his face, he could feel it too. An all-mighty song of howls rang though the sky causing us to look around. “What the fuck was that?” Eric shouted. “What is going on, East side patrol?” I linked
