Zerah

Having lunch was a worthwhile break, no matter how brief it was. When Nathan and I stepped back inside the office a few people were already present discussing in a cubicle.

Thankfully, unlike in Holloway Cooperation, nobody batted an eye at us. I was grateful for that until whilst passing the group, their chatter reached my ears.

“Can you believe it? I can't. The Ryker Davidson giving a public apology?”

I stiffened in place. Nathan, slightly ahead of me, turned, but I couldn't focus on him anymore.

The group was still so far away and embroiled that they didn't notice.

“Yeah. I heard that right now their HR and PR is in shambles. He just called some of his staff to give them some motivational speech about everything. After that, nothing. There hasn't even been talks of a press conference happening. Nobody’s buying it.”

“Why the hell would they? He's still hiding behind others backs while the press torments us. All he needs to do is give a public apology.” another muttered,

“He

Zerah My gut tightened at her words. Before I could reassure her, she raised her hand with a bitter smile. “I know it won't, this is just a precaution. I'm grateful for this and for you…but I'm still selfish, and I have my fears and doubts. If it comes crashing down, not just me but my family will be hurt. I have no doubt that he's capable of that,” she said, “So please, on the probability that this doesn't pan out and he wins, I need you to promise me that nobody will know that I'm involved. We never spoke of this and I never gave you that drive. Even when this goes public, promise me that I'll remain anonymous. Can you do that?” I stood there, frozen, as Elena's words hung in the air. As I looked into her eyes, I saw the depth of her anxiety. The decision solidified. I had promised to help her and protect her. I also had to ensure that she wasn't caught in the crossfire. I nodded. “I promise. You'll remain anonymous,” I promised sincerely. There was the question of what e

ZerahFor a moment, it was like I'd stopped breathing. Shock ran through me like a tidal wave as I replayed those words over again in my head. A video of Robinson threatening her. A piece of substantial evidence. It may be one incident, one piece of evidence, but a single incident was all that was needed to crumble someone's reputation. For someone like James who was in his high, propped up by the press at this time, it would change everything. This could be everything we needed. “Zerah.”I was snapped back to reality at the call of my name. Looking back at Elena, her dark eyes clearer, it was like a weight had been lifted from my chest.“Where is it?" I asked. My voice came out slightly more eager than expected but it was too late to back track.Elena's face shifted a fraction. She leaned back in her seat and panic filled me. “Wait. I'm sorry if I startled you. I didn't mean to.” I rushed out. I couldn't let my abrupt reaction drive her away. Her only response was a brief shak

Ryker“Mr. Davidson!” Jason snapped, quickly pulling me out of my trance. I blinked back to reality to meet the glow of sundown. It was already evening, I noted listlessly.Hours had passed, nearing the full day, yet nothing had been solved.Turning back to the two people in my office, Jason paced frantically."Alright. Luckily, we've managed to contain it here at the office. Barely,” he glanced at me before continuing, “Since Mr Davidson has already talked to the employees, assuring them that all will be taken care of. It's only right that we do so.”“And how do you suggest we do that?" Evelyn, sitting on the other chair, raised an eyebrow. Despite flagellating me in the meeting before, she had arrived here unannounced, no doubt for her own interests. “Do we lock ourselves up? Sounds like a plan." She smiled, her voice dripping with skepticism.Jason's jaw ticked as he turned to her.“Mrs Rodriguez, this is neither the time nor the place for scorn. We're both directors here and y

Zerah Her words rang, voice wooden and final. I was stunned in place, the words I was about to say stuck in my throat. What was she saying? "W..What? What do you mean by that, you told me–" “You're mistaken ,” she snapped, making me rear back. “I have no idea what you're talking about. I didn't tell you anything and you didn't promise me anything. It's better you forget and drop this before you get us both in trouble.” Soon after, she wrapped her arms around her body like she was cold. It was summer. The anxiety that had brought me here made my gut twist. She was afraid, and I wanted to do anything I could to help her. “Listen, Elena. I know you're scared— “You don't know anything, Zerah," she cut me off again, voice sharper if not for the crack, “Not about me or what I'd been through. Not about the pain, the desperation. The suffocating feeling about being in a situation where you can't get out. You don't know about how it feels when every single door in your life is sl

Zerah My heart was beating hard in my chest as I sorted through the last set of files. Looking at the time on my phone, I finally relaxed.Only twenty minutes left to meet up with Elena. After seeing the message, we'd agreed on a place and a time in the evening. Even through her sparse texts, I could tell that she was skittish. I didn't want to waste any time. If I came late, there was a chance that she would be gone.I had one opportunity. I couldn't waste it.The evening glow shone from the office windows. Very few people remained in the office since it was closing partly due to the Falloway crisis since nobody wanted to be harassed by any press. Passing by and giving other people farewells. I slipped out of the office building, checking the time. The restaurant we'd agreed to meet at was familiar to me. With a quick walk I would be there in less than ten minutes.“Ms Mikealson?” I stopped in my tracks as a voice called out to me. Turning around, I met a woman walking up to me.
