Chapter 8 A Text

But this was the first time I’ve seen this man… Colt. He said his name was Colt.

My heart stumbles over the thought of him. He was so nice to me, too… I was completely shocked when he stood up to Janice. She’s been after me for ages. I have no idea what I did to her, but she is the bane of my existence.

Then he asked me to go out to the club with him. I was so embarrassed to tell him I don’t have anything to wear… But he said he could help with that… And I believed him!

He took my phone and saved his number on it before calling his own phone and also saving my number. I had no idea why it made me so happy just to have a way to contact him, but it did.

Nash sent me a secret wink while his friend was playing around with my phone. If Nash thinks Colt is a good guy, then I will trust him.

Colt’s been texting me all day today and I can’t seem to get this stupid grin off my face. Mostly he’s just been checking in on me to see how I’m doing at work and worried that someone is going to come along and harass me again. He told me he was busy with work and some sort of business with Nash… I didn’t want to pry.

Becky noticed I’ve been distracted and checking my phone constantly, and she has been teasing me relentlessly. She is one of my best friends. She is the only one at the Diner that knows about Ash and the baby. I don’t really like to talk about it.

Anna got it out of me one night, and I’m assuming since Nash is her husband he’s heard what I went through, though neither of them bring it up.

Becky watched my interactions with Colt last night and couldn’t stop the stupid happy face when he told me he’d text me later before they left.

Nash and Colt left before they got their dinners and I felt horrible, but they both left fifty dollar tips! I almost passed out. I’ll be putting that into my savings as soon as I can.

I know Nash is a lawyer, but I have no idea what Colt is… But whatever it is, he seems to hit the gym everyday with all his big protective muscles.

My phone buzzes in my pocket bringing me out of my daze.

Colt: Hey, when’s your lunch?

I can’t stop the giggle and Beck gives me a wink as she goes and helps the next table with their order.

I check my watch.

Me: In about twenty minutes.

My phone buzzes almost immediately after.

Colt: Can I take you somewhere?

My heart pounds in my chest. I can’t believe how excited I am to hear him ask me out to lunch. It really shouldn’t be that big of a deal, but the fact that he wants to spend time with me has my mind buzzing and my heart racing.

Me:Yes.

Colt: Great! I’ll pick you up when you get off.

For the next twenty minutes, I practically dance through work, all the while Becks sends me knowing looks and sly comments about wondering why I could be so happy.

“Hmmm… I wonder what’s got Rory in such a good mood?” She giggles coming up behind me.

“Becks!” I blush to my roots, unable to hide my happiness from her.

But she just bumped my shoulder and went back to work.
