Death Caused by Betrayal

In any kind of relationship, including a friendship, trust is one of the most important elements to have. They said that trust takes a thousand hours to build yet takes only a second to break. But how could you build trust if you do not know who to believe anymore? Especially if everyone around you is constantly fabricating lies.

Luna was awakened with the cold water splashed on her face. The frigid water makes her cheeks feel rubbed raw.

"Wake up, Your Highness!" She heard a familiar voice who seemed to be mocking her current situation. It was followed by a thundering laugh rolled out of her. She laughs maniacally like a crazy psycho.

"Amanda!" Luna groaned in anger.

"What brings you here? Just to make fun of me? Is that how petty you are to assert your success right in front of my face?" Luna asks who is obviously disgusted by her.

"I am just here to visit an old friend. We are friends after all, right? It is nice to see you again, Luna. Oh wait, Luna? I want to call by your own name but you only have a few hours left so I will let you use my future title. Can you believe that? First, I stole your husband and now, your position." She continues to ridicule Luna.

Luna wants to grab her hair and drag her across the prison hall but unfortunately, she is inside her prison chamber and can't reach even an inch of Amanda's body.

"Are you really proud that you stole those things from me? You are really something Amanda. I did not expect you to be that cunning. You still have the guts to laugh after your child was murdered and blame it on me." Luna was not affected by her mockery; instead, she was repulsed by her actions as an expecting mother.

"Murdered? My child was murdered? When Luna? When?" She asks the outraged Luna like an insane woman.

"You are going crazy Amanda but I have to tell you that I didn't do it. Even if I dislike you, I would never hurt a guiltless child. Your child is sinless and he should not be involved with the feud between us. I would never commit such a dirty trick. I would never kill your child." Luna feels empathetic to Amanda who just recently lost her child.

"Kill my child? Ask me first Luna if I have a child in the first place." She suddenly exploded into maniacal laughter again.

"What? What do you mean Amanda?" Luna was befuddled by her statement. She does not know what Amanda is trying to say.

"Ask me Luna if I really have a child. Did I really carry the alpha's son? Come on, ask me." She challenged the addled Luna.

"You… You are not pregnant? The alpha's child really never died because it was fake all along. I was framed by you. I will be sentenced to death for a crime that does not even exist." Luna just chuckled in disappointment as she was able to put two and two together.

"You are really intelligent Luna because you are right! I planned all of this. I carefully planned how to steal your position. But sad to say, you did not see all of it beforehand." Amanda scornfully said.

"Well, if you may ask why I did this instead of killing you, it's because it is more satisfying. Killing you is so easy to do especially that you are weakest among all of us here. It's no challenge for me. I want you to live your life like hell with your marriage with the alpha before I torment you of his betrayal. In that way, the alpha will forever be guilty of me for not protecting his imaginary child enough, and making you a bad person at the same time. That is a hundred percent win for me, right? I am a good planner, aren't I Luna?" Amanda explained everything to Luna.

"I was so foolish to believe you before. I always treated you like a real friend but you are actually a snake who will bite me behind my back." Luna then lets out a hollow laugh.

"It is too late to regret your decisions now Luna. It's done. I already won the fight. You have no move available right now." She teases Luna. Considering that Amanda will have Luna's position after the latter died, she was uncontrollably confident to assert her dominance.

"How were you able to pull it off? How come your pregnancy is acknowledged by the pack's doctor? He is an expert in the field of medicine and health, you could not fool him by your mere words unless he was…" Luna was not able to finish her words because she had realized that she already knew the answer.

"Unless he was ordered by me to do it? That's another point for you Luna. I really admire how quick you think. Of course, I bought his loyalty. Anyone can give their loyalty to you as long as you provide them with good benefits. It is a win-win situation. They get the money, I get their service. But it's just a secret for the both of us, okay? Don't tell the alpha. Anyway, he won't believe you, why bother?" She replied.

"After all you said earlier, I won't be surprised anymore if you did that. I wonder what else you demanded the pack's doctor to do. Let me guess, he gave me a contraceptive soup instead of a pregnancy enhancing one." Luna predicted.

"Well, that's one of those things. Do you want to guess what else? Or do you want me to tell you something? Perhaps, something about you and your fertility?" She challenges Luna.

"What do you mean? What the hell did you do? Answer me! Answer me, you scheming woman!" Luna was clearly exasperated with the words she confessed.

"Chill Luna. You have to be calm. Don't worry, I will tell you everything. Besides, you're going to die anyway. I don't like to keep it a secret to you." She sarcastically replied.

"The doctor told you that you are infertile right? Because you have the weakest omega? Well, that's false. I don't have a weak omega but look at me, I am the one who was infertile. I ordered the doctor to declared you as an infertile in order for the alpha to stop having sex with you. And wait, there's more. The supplement that you are taking in order to help your fertility, that is actually a contraceptive, you fool!" She keeps on breaking Luna's heart.

"You are crazy! I will kill you! I will chop you to pieces until I'm done with you!" Luna was trying to break the prison wall in between them.

"Do you think that's the worst? Wait until you see my surprise for you Luna." Amanda was really preparing this for a long time considering how she was able to gather all of this.

"What is it? Do you think you could harm me? I am already broken into pieces." She shouted in anger.

"What? Do you mean who?" This makes Luna more baffled. Who else could it be?

"Who? What do you mean who? Do you have another accomplice? Who is it? The gamma? I knew that already." Luna tried to guess the traitor but she was wrong. It was not the gamma who betrayed her.

"You are right with the gamma. He is one of my minions but I was not referring to him. I want you to guess but I can't wait to see your reaction. So, do you want me to call her now?" Amanda asks her in a mocking tone.

"Who is it? The alpha? Are you on this together?" Luna tried to guess again yet Amanda did not react.

"No, silly. The alpha is so innocent like a child on this matter." Amanda laughs at her prediction.

"Who is it then?" She asks. She knew that Amanda was preparing this huge revelation for a long time and it would surely hurt her.

"You may now come in. Surprise our beloved Luna on what a traitor you are!" Amanda yelled at someone behind the door.

As soon as the person entered the hall, Luna's heart tightened. She could hardly breath upon seeing the traitor. She could believe that this person could break her faith in their friendship. It is the greatest betrayal she ever encountered.

"Phelan?" Luna broke down in tears. She is so disheartened with the news she recently got.

Phelan is her trusted maid, her servant, and her friend. She could not even comprehend how Phelan could betray her because she treated her like family.

"Yeah, Phelan. She was a childhood friend of mine. I planted her to your side when you became a Luna so that I could have my own eyes and ears who could update me with your every move. That's funny how trusted the wrong person, right? That's how I work Luna, silent and unnoticed." Amanda said proudly as if it is her greatest accomplishment.

"How could you do this to me Phelan? I treated you well. I saved you from any type of danger multiple times. And this is how you would repay me? Is this how you treat your master? Your family? Your friend? This is ridiculous!" Luna asks Phelan with full disappointment.

"I never ask you to treat me like a friend Luna. I have been a good servant to you but I have never been your friend. I do not owe you anything. I never said that I want to be your friend. You trusted a person who you shouldn't trust. Even though you became my master, my loyalty was forever with Amanda. Ever since she saved me from a rogue, I already promised her to serve her with all my life." Phelan explained while showing no remorse for her actions.

"Seems like you have nothing left now Luna. Do you want me to end your life right now? Alpha already gathered enough evidence to kill you as punishment. He will be here anytime soon. Don't worry, I will kill you as quickly as I can." Amanda uttered and pulled out a dagger. She was ready to throw it towards Luna to end her life.

"Alpha is here!" Shouted from someone outside which causes Amanda to stop what she was about to do and immediately hide the dagger on her dress.

"You are a murderer! How dare you kill my baby! He has nothing to do with us. If you want to take revenge on me, just kill me. You should not have involved my child." Amanda quickly acted like a mother who was distressed by her child's death. She really knows how to manipulate other people into believing her.

"Amanda, why are you here?" The alpha asks.

"I want to see her being punished, alpha. I want to see her die like my child." Amanda cried agonizingly. Her acting is really convincing.

"Don't worry, I am here to give her the punishment for killing our child." Alpha replied with full authority in his voice.

"But how alpha?" Amanda asks.

"Death by poison." He declared and gave a cup of red liquid to Luna.

"So, is this how my life is gonna end?" Luna asks. But contrary to what is expected, she seems to be happy that she could finally rest from her misfortune.

"I will drink the beverage that my husband has given me. But by drinking this, it will serve as showing my innocence regarding this case. I did not kill anyone and I can prove that by sacrificing my own life. Until my last breath, I will deny the allegations that you have thrown at me." Luna said her last words to the alpha who is currently holding Amanda in his arms and finally drinks the poison inside the cup.

"May the Moon Goddess forgive me for speaking ill to her. May she guide me as I cross the world of the dead." She uttered to herself as she tightly held the handkerchief that her father had given her earlier.

After a few seconds, her vision went pitch black and could hear nothing but a sound of silence.
