Unrequited Love

Desiring someone else is probably the most dangerous of all. As soon as you want someone—really want him—as it's if you've sutured your happiness to that person's flesh with a surgical needle, making any severance a lacerating damage.

After the commotion, Luna went to the forest to let go of all of her anger. She immediately turned herself into a wolf. Her fur is a mix of a red and brown color.

She started to run across the vast vicinity of the forest. She doesn't know what to think, what to feel, what to do, and what to say. Everything seems to be so complicated for her. Every information that she knows conveys different emotions thus making her out of her mind for a bit.

It is already dark and the wind is blowing so hard. It appears that it is going to rain. She keeps running and running as if she would not feel tired. She does not know where to go but as long as her feet continue to move, she will still continue to do so.

An hour later, she felt that a sensation of tiredness started to crawl up into her body. She stopped from running because she is exhausted. But despite all she did, she still could not get rid of the pain of her heartbreak.

She let out a long mournful howl as she watched the moon. This is the only thing she can do right now to express her pain. She is tired of complaining to the Moon Goddess about her situation especially if this deity doesn't have time to listen to her prayers.

She does not know why her husband can't love her. Why can't the alpha be loyal to her? Does she deserve to be treated this way? Is her infertility problem causing all of this mess?

"Luna, we need your opinion about this problem."

"Is there any way that we could resolve this trouble before it gets worse? We could not afford to lose any members of the pack right now."

"Luna, are you sure that this is the right thing to do? What if it does not work as we expected?"

"Luna, the alpha of the opposing pack agreed to your condition. He will not be harming any of us as long as you would also fulfill your sworn promise."

"Luna, the other pack agreed to have an alliance with us."

"The other pack also expresses their support to us."

"Luna, it is a good thing that you have settled everything. Look at now, we still have lots of resources to use and foods to store."

She remembered all of the sentiments of the pack as she managed it perfectly. In the past five years, she did everything she could in order to gain her husband's favor and approval. She worked hard even past midnight just to learn how to manage the pack properly. She also uses her smart brain when dealing and building alliances with other packs many times.

She became the "brain" of the pack. The pack became more and more powerful because of her wise management. However, all she did was useless. It still did not make her husband fall in love with her. Yes, her husband still respects her but it is just because he sees her as a suitable Luna and not a suitable wife for him.

"Alpha, why can't you sleep with me? We are already married, after all. This is not a taboo anymore." She persuaded the alpha.

"I am not in the mood to have sex with you Luna. I just have to sleep here in my bed and you go sleep in your bed." The alpha replied with no interest for her at all.

"But, today is our wedding day. We should celebrate it. We are united as one now, like a two body with one heart. Tonight must be special for us. Tonight is our symbol of our love for each other." She explains to him.

"Love? Who told you that I did this for love? This marriage happened not because of love, Luna. This marriage takes place because this is what we should do. We have our own responsibility to our pack and each of us has to sacrifice to fulfill that responsibility. I have to marry a suitable Luna for the pack and I choose you because I respect your father. As the beta of the pack, he contributed a lot and this is the only way to give his action an appreciation. You are nothing but a duty for the pack." The alpha angrily told her.

"But alpha, our relationship is still fresh. We do not have to love each other now. Love will just grow out of our hearts. We still have plenty of time. You still have time to learn how to love me." Luna was still determined to convince the alpha to love her.

"I don't love you, Luna. And I would never fall in love with you, no matter what! You are just a responsibility to me and you will forever remain that way." The alpha said those words harshly.

Even though it has been five years since the alpha said that, the memories were still fresh in Luna's memory. And he was right, he really never loved her despite all of her contributions. Alpha was Luna's love ever since she was a child and she was very happy when she knew that news that she could marry him. Everytime she tried to show her affection to him, she could clearly see the disgust mirrored on her husband's face. The alpha has been cold to her especially after they went to the pack's doctor to ask about her condition.

"How was she, doctor? It has been years and she still hasn't gotten pregnant. What is wrong with her? Can you treat her?" This is the only time that she saw the alpha being worried. It's just that, it is not for her. He is just worried that he could not have an heir to his throne. For him, Luna is only a baby machine that will carry his offspring and future successor.

"Forgive me alpha but I could not do anything about it. Luna's weak omega causes her infertility. Her weak health makes it difficult for her to get pregnant. Her infertility cannot be cured by any medicine that we have. Her chances of getting pregnant are so low. And if she could have an opportunity to bear an offspring, it will be so difficult for her and for the baby. She could end up dead and worse, the baby could die too." The pack's doctor explained to them. This news made Luna's world start to crash.

"Is there something that I could do? I could drink a lot of herbs and medicines. I would do everything. Please, just tell me that there is still something I could do." Luna sadly asks the doctor.

"Unfortunately, none. This is irreversible. Your infertility problem is so serious that even the strongest dose of medicine can't cure it. Let us just ask the Moon Goddess to bless your womb and give you a chance to bear a child." The doctor said.

During that day, Luna was saddened by the words of the doctor. This may be the most unforgettable moment in all of her life. But the most affected of all is the alpha, who expects Luna to bear a son for him. Since then, the alpha treats her miserably and always shows his wickedness to the poor Luna.

"Why can't I hate you? Why do I have to still love you? I do not know how to unlove you because even if you hurt me, my heart still says that it's okay, that I still love you, and that I always love you." She screamed as tears welled up in her eyes.

"This is unfair! Life is unfair, and you are unfair! I have treated you so well all this time but you just cheated on me. You betrayed me! I did everything but to you, it was all nothing." She yelled using her remaining strength as tears began to streamed down her face.

"Starting from now on, I will try to forget my feelings about you. I will do my best to hate you. And if I could have a chance to turn back the time, I would never love you too! And that is my promise." She courageously swore.

After letting out all of her anger and pain, she went home. She returned home exhausted as if her legs cannot support her weight.

"Luna, you're back. Where have you been? I have been looking for you. Look at you, you look all messy and looking so weary. What happened to you?" Phelan, her loyal and trusted aid, meets her at the front door of their house.

"I was just wandering to the forest. It has been a long time since I took a stroll there. I just forget about the time." Luna replied to her worried servant.

"Let me prepare your bath, Luna." The servant was about to leave when she was stopped by Luna by grabbing her hand.

"No, please don't leave yet. I need company here. I will clean myself up later." Luna begged her servant.

"What will you do if you are already tired and you want to give up?" Luna asks her.

"If I am tired, then I would rest but that does not mean I would give up." Phelan replied.

"If you are too tired both physically and emotionally from all of the responsibilities, would you leave your pack just to have a peace of mind?" Luna asks her again which surprises the servant.

"Luna, running away from your problems does not solve it. Even though how far you go, those problems will still find you. You have to be brave and face it all." Phelan already sensed that these questions were related to Luna and with her problems.

"Luna, I may be bold to ask but what's wrong?" She asks with a distressed voice.

"I want to leave the pack, Phelan. I am tired of being like this." Luna replied and started to cry.

"Luna, I am so sorry that you have to experience this but you don't have to leave the pack. Your life starts here. This is your home." Phelan comforted her with a few words.

"Luna! Luna! Luna!" Their conversation was cut short. Alpha's voice was thundering even if he was still outside the house.

As soon as he came in, the atmosphere filled with terror as he entered the house angrily.
