The Broken Luna

The saddest thing about betrayal is that it never comes from your enemy but from someone you least expected.

A faint ray of sunlight hits her face. It is already afternoon and Luna did not notice the time. She wakes up and finds herself lying on the floor. She fell asleep last night with a pool of tears and a heavy heart. Until now, her heart is still filled with hatred and anger. Hatred for her husband and her so-called best friend, and anger for herself.

"I am useless! What's the use of being a Luna if I could not bear a son for the alpha?" She utters while trying to slap herself multiple times. She could not feel the slap on her face. It seems that her physical body has become numb. The only thing she can feel right now is the mixed feeling that occupies her heart.

"Why can't I be happy? What did I do to deserve this life? Did I really deserve to be cheated on with my husband? All my life, I never hurt anybody but why am I receiving all the unluckiness in this life?" Luna is so heartbroken. She hardly comprehends how it happened that the man that she loved the most ever since she was a child could do this emotional abuse to her.

"And you, Moon Goddess! You can see, right? Do you intend to make my life like this? Why do you have to make my life this sorrowful?" Luna spoke out of anger that she even started to complain to the Moon Goddess.

"I am so devoted to you! I always respected you! Is this the kind of fate you will have for your loyal and faithful follower? What else should I do to make my wishes come true? Is my offering and prayers still not enough for you?" She continues to ask the Moon Goddess of seemingly unending questions.

"Yes, you gave me the position of a Luna but I did not ask for that. In fact, I do not want that! Why would you give me such high status yet deprive me of something that I love the most? I do not need honor and prestige. All I need is a complete family. I want my husband to love me just like I do. I want to have a child of my own. How can you be so selfish not to give me a chance to carry a baby? Why can't I give birth to an heir for the man I always love?" She continues to voice out her discontentment of the blessing that she receives from the Moon Goddess.

A strong wind suddenly blew from an open window which made her get back into her senses. She decided to close it. Suddenly, she sees herself in the mirror. She slowly caresses her face. It is so unbelievable how a respectable Luna like her looks so depressing and pitiful. Her hair is so messy and her eyes look so puffy because of her crying all since last night.

"I have to breathe some fresh air. I cannot stay inside this house any longer." She said to herself while tears began to stream down her face again. She wiped the tears in her face and fixed her hair a bit before walking out of the room.

She was about to run into the corridor when a familiar smell got into her nostrils.

"Disgusting." Luna said to herself.

She saw Amanda, her husband's mistress walking towards her.

"Luna." Amanda said as she bowed in front of Luna as a sign of respect. After all, Luna is still the official wife of the alpha.

"That is so brave of you to come here. Oh, I forgot, you seduced my husband to usurp for my position and secure yourself in the future. That's really a flawless move, Amanda. So, why are you here? Are you looking for MY husband? Or are you just flaunting your baby?" Luna courageously confronted the mistress.

"Seduce your husband? Usurp your position? Flaunting my baby? No. I did not plan to do that. Luna, you know that I could not do anything against the alpha. All I could do is to obey. That is why I am here. I am here to ask for your forgiveness." Amanda denied all of Luna's accusations and apologized.

It may look like to everyone that her husband's mistress is doing the right thing but not to her. All Luna can see is the hypocrisy behind Amanda's actions.

"Forgive you? It is easier for me to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend. Well, who needs an enemy if I have a friend like you, right? Do you really think you can fool me? I know that you are not sincere with this. You are just doing this to look like the victim of everything." The emotionally hurt Luna refuses to accept Amanda's apology.

"Luna, I know that this is so hard for you to handle but I did not intend to hurt you. I just… I just don't have a choice but to give in with the alpha's command." Amanda starts to let out some tears to make Luna believe in her lies but Luna knows her too well. She knew how scheming and cunning Amanda is.

"You did not intend to hurt me? But why did you keep this a secret to me all this time? Why did you have to make me look like a fool? You could have told me what is going on. But no, you continuously seduce my husband for you to bear an heir. You know what, it is funny how sometimes that the people you’d take a bullet for are the ones behind the trigger. And you know what's funnier, I did not expect that you would be that person to betray me." Luna can't help her tears to flow down on her cheeks but she keeps on wiping it and chuckles for what she said.

Amanda was stunned by Luna's words. She did not know how to defend herself, especially that she actually seduces the alpha to mate with her in the first place. She knew that Luna was right and she couldn't find a word to oppose the accusations of Luna.

Luna was about to leave when she was stopped by Amanda.

"Luna, wait." Amanda called her attention.

"Luna, I admit my mistakes and I know that I am totally responsible for it. I would willingly take any punishment that you wished to do." She added that she is confident enough that Luna will not punish her since she is carrying the alpha's child. Her child will be her card to protect herself.

"I do not have to punish you. You just have to take good care of the child." Luna replied with authority in her voice.

"But… Does that mean that you forgive me already?" She asks Luna.

"No. I am just doing my responsibility as Luna. And by doing that, it does not mean I already forgave you. To me, the thing that is worse than death is betrayal. You know what, I could conceive death, but I could not conceive betrayal." Luna is holding tight to her ground not to forgive her.

"Do you really want Amanda to suffer? Aren't you being so selfish about it?" The gamma of the pack said.

Luna did not notice him but he was deeply listening to the conversation of the girls.

"Gamma…" The sly Amanda pays respect to the male who just came in.

"Who tells you to meddle with my affair?" Luna questioned him with a serious tone.

"Luna…" The gamma greeted her as he realized that he forgot to pay respect to her.

"Gamma, I did not know that the alpha asks you to defend Amanda." Luna utters which makes the gamma caught off guard.

"Luna, I didn't mean to offend you or to disrespect you but I think you are being unreasonable to Amanda." His words cause Luna's eyebrows to rise as if she was looking for an explanation.

"Unreasonable? How can you say that I am being unreasonable, gamma? Am I being unreasonable for not forgiving the person who betrayed me? Someone who wreck my family? Someone who seduces my husband? Am I really being reasonable? Or are you just bewitched by this lady?" Luna interrogates him which leaves him speechless. Of course, he could not believe that Amanda will do such a thing

Amanda knows how to disguise her true character too well. She always does everything just for the pack to like her. She may not be from a prestigious clan of the pack but her character makes the pack adore her and for the alpha to notice her.

"Luna, you are just interpreting this negatively. Amanda is helping you to fulfill your obligations. We all know that you cannot bear a child to be the alpha's heir so she took all of this for you. She is doing this as a filial piety to you and to alpha." The gamma managed to create an explanation.

"So, what do you want to say is that, I must be grateful to her. Is that it, gamma? So you're saying that this is how I should handle the situation?" She clarifies Gamma's statement.

"Please. I do not want to bring chaos here in the pack. If I could turn back time, I would choose to defy the alpha's command even if it means that it will end my life." Amanda acted like she was being stressed out to be the victim of the problem that she created.

"Yes. You should indeed be grateful to her. She is using her body to carry the future ruler of the pack, someone who will continue the legacy that we have started as one group. The obligation that you should have done but you haven't. She is not asking you anything but forgiveness. Everyone knows how selfless she is. She could have asked for your position because clearly, she is more suitable than you but she didn't. Is that really hard to give? Why are you being so immature?" The gamma did not know that he already crossed the line. He should have not said that to Luna. After all, she still holds more power than him.

"I do not have enough time to argue with this nonsense. I still have lots of affairs to manage. If you have plenty of time for leisure, well that's good for you but unlike you, I don't." Luna tries to calm herself down but there are too many emotions to handle. She could only do one thing to end this conversation - to leave.

"Luna, please hear me out for a second." Amanda holds her arm for her to stop from leaving the scene.

Luna pulled Amanda's disgusting hand from her and grabbed the mistress' hand.

"Luna!" Gamma angrily shouted at her seeing that the alpha's mistress was hurt.

"Lower your voice! Don't forget who you are yelling at. Don't lose it in your mind that I am still the Luna of the pack. My position is always higher than yours even if I am not favored by the alpha. And I have the right to deal with someone who disrespected me like this sickening paramour and you, gamma." Luna confidently declared and let go of Amanda's hand. She showed her strong aura of a true Luna to the disrespectful gamma.

Gamma knew that she was right so he immediately knelt onto the ground as a symbol of admitting his mistakes and asking forgiveness to Luna. Luna just ignores him and leaves them, the two ill-mannered people.
