Taran's POV

Willa didn't come.

It used to calm Cerberus when we sit at the edge of the cliff, watching the sea. But not today. He was agitated all morning, pacing around in my mind, waiting for Willa.

It was driving me crazy.

[Willa!] Cerberus grunted to me, again. It was like the hundredth time today.

[We can't go into town.] I mumbled, looking at the sea. I lied. It was risky to go into town, sure. But I still could. I didn't want to because I was afraid to find Willa living happily with her new friends. I didn't want to confirm that she lied to us and CHOSE not to come.

I would rather wait with hope...and not find out.

But that hope was gouged away as time passed by, bit by bit.

[You went before.] Cerberus grunted discontentedly.

[The other day was a necessary risk.] I answered, feeling guilty. There was no difference between today and the other day. I was just being a coward.
