CHAPTER 18

Coralline's POV

When the meeting had ended, I went back to my office. I had left my phone to charge there. I unplugged my phone and saw two missed calls from Sophie. I also saw a voicemail so l decided to play it.

I heard

'Coralline, you have to be careful. Jake Humphrey is....' And then there was a pause.

I could still hear her rhythmic breathing so I continued listening. Suddenly I heard her screaming for help and the voicemail ended.

What just happened???

I was puzzled. I called her back but she didn't pick up. I called her countless times but it was still the same thing. I decided to dail the line at her cafe thinking maybe she was there working.

The call was answered but she wasn't the one who picked. It was one of her staffs and the lady told me that Sophie had left a while ago.

That's weird, Sophie never leaves her cafe before closing hours.

I decided to go to her house to check if she's there. I rang the door bell but no one answered.

Maybe she's sleeping.
