Fifteen

Xenia and Maxwell retired to their chamber and Xenia slammed on the couch, resting on her thoughts.

She didn't utter a word to Maxwell, and he knows why.

He went over to the counter and poured some water in a gold cup, removed her drug from it sachet and returned to her.

"Here, have this." He said and handed the drug to her.

Xenia collected it and put it in her mouth, then he gave her the water, which she gulped down immediately.

"Why are you still worried?" Alpha Maxwell asked dropping the cup on the table.

"I don't know, I just don't feel good. I mean, everything was going on well for you until I stepped into your pack and your subjects had gone against you all because of me, and overall, you are still supporting me. I just can't help but think about it." Xenia exclaimed, looking sad.

Alpha Maxwell squeezed her hands and she looked up at him.

"Xenia, you shouldn't think about all of this. You know it's not good for your health and our babies' health to stress your mind. So why do you have some sleep and I will take you out tomorrow?" Alpha stated.

Xenia's eyes met Alpha Maxwell's, and she felt a warmth spread through her chest. His gentle tone and concerned expression softened her tension, and her shoulders relaxed slightly. A sense of tranquility rushed inside her, and in his presence, she found serenity and comfort.

Her lips curved in a smile.

"Thank you so much, your highness for all your care. With you by my side, I always feel strong." Xenia replied.

Maxwell gleamed his eyes and lay her on the bed, then he brought his face closer to her, with his hands playing with her hair.

Xenia closed her eyes, getting touch giving her a cool sensation that goes down to her spine.

"I like you." He said and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead and covered her with the duvet.

Everything was going on smoothly until the door burst opened, revealing Roselyn.

The sound of her hills hitting the floor quickly makes Xenia and Maxwell scared and Xenia get up immediately.

"Roselyn, is everything okay?" Xenia asked, uncovering herself from the duvet.

Maxwell was still by her side

"I'm so sorry for barging in without knocking, please forgive me, your highness." Roselyn apologized.

"That aside, you looked freaked out, why?" Maxwell inquired, battling with his eyelashes.

"I can't find Anabelle. After the protest incident, I went to the room you assigned me to give to her, and I couldn't find her there." Roselyn said, her voice was lanced with worries.

"What! Where could she have gone?" Xenia asked, standing up.

"I don't know. I really can't tell." Roselyn answered and Xenia took her hills.

"We have to find her. She cannot fall back into her stepfather's hands, he will hurt her." Xenia said and started heading to the door.

"Xenia, wait!" Alpha Maxwell yelled and she did.

"You cannot leave like this." He added.

"Please don't stop me, or rather, come with me." Xenia replied and took her hills, Roselyn and Maxwell rushed after her and they begin searching for Anabelle.

They walked across the giant exit gate of the palace and there, they sighted Anabelle walking restlessly, even though they could only see her back, but they saw pains and anguish through her walk step.

"Anabelle!" Xenia shouted and Anabelle paused walking.

She turned and saw Xenia, the Alpha, and Roselyn.

She had tears in her tears and her eyes was puffy and red.

Xenia quickly met to her, taking her hands.

"What are you doing! What were you even thinking, leaving the palace knowing full well that your stepfather is out there for you." Xenia scolded with her hands.

Anabelle cried.

"I don't care about myself anymore, Luna. My presence in your life only caused you troubles and I don't want that to happen. The protest happened because of me, please, don't change the law, just let my stepdad do whatever he feels it's right for me, it will be better than knowing I brought problems to you while you did nothing but helped me." Anabelle exclaimed.

Xenia was angry that Anabelle thinks like that.

"I was out there fighting! I thought you are worth fighting for. I thought you will be brave to go through with this movement, how could you back out just like that!" Xenia half yelled.

Alpha Maxwell supported her back.

"There isn't any safe place as the palace for you, Anabelle. My Luna was breaking the law and changing it just for you and for other ladies in your situation, how could you just give up like that?" The Alpha said.

"I am not worth fighting for, your highness, I'm sorry. I know my stepfather is very evil, he can try to harm you." Anabelle cried and folded her hands together.

"Please forgive me, Luna Xenia, I cannot stay with you. Thank you for all you were for me and for being the first person who ever stood up for me." Anabelle said in between pains. She sniffed and wiped her tears with the back of her hands.

Xenia didn't know what to say, she glanced at Maxwell and then watched Anabelle as she continued walking.

Just then, a group of ladies in their large numbers marched towards the Giant gate and their large numbers made Anabelle paused.

Xenia and Maxwell wondered what's going on this time.

The ladies saw them and went flat on the ground, paying their respect and greetings.

"It's okay, you can stand up." Alpha Maxwell instructed and they did.

"God bless you, Luna Xenia." They chanted.

"Bless you too." Xenia replied, looking confused.

"Your highness, you don't know what you did to us. You saved our lives. Before this, we all live fearing getting auctioned, but your new declaration gave us some innermost peace, and now we don't have to fear living like animals." The leader exclaimed.

"Your new law means so much to us. That is why we decided to come and thank you personally for bringing new meaning to our lives." Another said.

Maxwell was so proud of Xenia, he never knew until now that his female subjects were going through a lot through a tradition that he felt was right and normal.

And Xenia too, for the first time was proud of herself, she just made these ladies so happy, and her decision was worth a shot.

"You are all welcome, and from now henceforth, you don't have to worry about receiving ill-treatment in this pack just because you are a lady." Xenia beamed, then her eyes moved to Anabelle.

She walked to her.

"You see, all these ladies are happy because of you, you made them happy, I made the decision for you only, not knowing it will have a massive impact on plenty of other women. Now you cannot blame yourself, rather, you should be proud of yourself." Xenia smiled.

"Yes, yes your highness." Anabelle said and hugged her.

"From now, I will live my life serving you, your highness, I will only listen to your instructions and you alone." Anabelle exclaimed, laughing in between tears.

"You can first start obeying me by returning to the palace because I will not let such a brave girl leave my sight. Secondly, I don't want to see tears in your eyes anymore." Xenia giggled and wiped Anabelle's tears with her thumb, then pulled her cheeks playfully, making everyone laughed.

*The next Day*

The sun rose over the palace, casting a warm glow over the grounds. The sound of birds chirping and the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze filled the air.

Xenia opened her eyes, stretching her body and then yawned.

She had such a good sleep last night.

She smiled, recalling how Alpha Maxwell made sure she slept before he almost fell asleep.

"Good morning, my Luna." Roselyn greeted with a warm smile.

Xenia rubbed her eyes and pushed her hair lazily.

"Good morning, Roselyn." Xenia greeted back and slide her feet into her flip-flops.

"Your bath is ready. Breakfast is ready too, the Alpha said he is taking you out, you can eat breakfast here." Roselyn announced.

"Sure, he told me about that yesterday. I will go take my bath." Xenia said and dashed to the bathroom excitedly.

A few moments later, she had breakfast and Alpha Maxwell was already waiting for her in the car.

The driver opened the car and she entered.

"Good morning." She greeted.

"Morning to the most beautiful woman I have ever seen." Maxwell replied, putting on her seat belt.

Xenia blushed, her cheeks turning red.

"Thank you, you are very handsome too, Alpha." Xenia commended.

"Mmm, well, since it's coming from you, I will believe you." Alpha Maxwell giggled.

"So, where are you taking me to?" Xenia asked.

"We will first stop by for the doctor's appointment, and then I will take you to somewhere special. Start driving." Maxwell answered and instructed the driver, he started driving immediately.

Martin, Anabelle's stepfather, came out from where he was hiding and loaded a gun he was holding with bullets.

"You shouldn't have crossed your limits, Luna. Now I'm sorry, but you have to die." Martin muttered as he stared fiercely at the gun, then entered his car and started driving slowly behind the Alpha's car.
