KAEL’S POV

I slammed my office door so hard the damn glass rattled in its frame. My voice was already echoing through the space before I’d even sat down.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” I growled. “I gave you one job but you came back with trouble.”

Mira stood across from me, her face pale, hands twisting together like she was trying to squeeze some courage out of her own bones. “Sir, I really tried to convince him that you were too busy but he insisted on seeing you.”

“I don't want to.”

“Sir, you are like a king to him, he just asked for a dinner…”

I interrupted her with a scoff. “You know how much I hate humans, you should have come up with something, why did you have to give him false hope?”

“It was either that or we have no deal,” she defended.

“I don’t want to hear it.” I cut her off and waved her toward the door. “Get out, before I lose it.”

She bowed quickly and rushed out. I closed my eyes, pressing my fingers into my temples. Everything was just getting on my nerves latel

  • Marked by betrayal, bound to the Lycan Lord.   Another mystery.

XENA’S POV The moment the door clicked shut, I let out a sigh of relief but I didn’t move— I dare not. I stayed in the wardrobe, my heart pounding loud enough that I was sure Kael had heard it before he left. But he hadn’t. Somehow, impossibly, he hadn’t picked up my scent. Maybe it was the cologne he wore, or maybe the stress had his senses dulled—but whatever the reason, I wasn't caught. I can't even imagine what he would have done to me if he finds me snooping around or if he had seen me with that document. I stayed still for a few more seconds just in case. Then I crept out, my legs were shaky. I was safe— for now. I looked around once, then rushed out I'd the room, heading downstairs, moving slow and cautious like I expected someone to jump out at me. At the bottom of the stairs, I bumped into Susan. She nearly dropped the tablet she was holding. “There you are,” she said, eyebrows raised. “Kael was looking for you.” My stomach twisted. “I wasn’t… I mean, I was just

  • Marked by betrayal, bound to the Lycan Lord.   The documents.

XENA’S POV. I stared at the blank TV screen, tapping my fingers anxiously on my lap as I impatiently waited for Susan or Kael to get back home. I was completely bored and I was about losing it. Susan had just left for groceries, promising she wouldn't be gone long— even though she has been gone for more than two hours now. I stayed on the couch, my legs pulled up to my chest, listening to the ticking clock in the hallway. I told myself to relax, to wait like a normal person. But of course, I didn’t.I wanted to explore the house. So I got up. And with that, I wandered around, entering all the doors that opened. It wasn’t hard to navigate—just a few bedrooms, a study, and a library that looked barely touched. Unlike the mansion, this place was quiet in a different way, less guarded but somehow just as eerie. The library small but cozy— but as expected there was nothing there that picked my interest so I decided to continue my search. Eventually, I stood in front of a room. Someth

  • Marked by betrayal, bound to the Lycan Lord.   Another vacation.

XENA’S POVThe sky was still ink-black when we got home. I laid on the bed, eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling. “Mirabel,” I muttered, turning to the side. I had no idea who she was or how she was related to Chloe. She could be a friend — it wasn't like I knew all of Chloe's friend but this one just looked way of Chloe's league to be Chloe's minion. I held the pendant Kael showed me earlier, my fingers curling around the metal until my knuckles went white. Why did she have it?If Chloe was really dead, how did Mirabel get something that was Chloe didn't even have. And normal was a thing that I have done all my life but this time it was almost impossible. How could I act normal when I was going crazy? I had so many questions I wanted to ask Mirabel. “Or…” I started, but the words died down. I couldn't even imagine it. What if Chloe was back for revenge? Why can't she just leave me the fuck alone?I buried my face into my pillow, allowing sleep to take me. Morning crept in slo

  • Marked by betrayal, bound to the Lycan Lord.   A walk to her grave.

Xena's POVThe night air was cold, brushing against my skin as I followed Kael through the woods. I didn’t ask questions. I just walked. Every step we took brought us closer to the one place I didn’t want to be—Chloe’s grave.Kael didn’t speak. He had a shovel in one hand, and his face looked carved from stone. Focused. Dangerous. We stopped at the small heap, hidden behind the trees, where only moonlight dared to fall. I wrapped my arms around myself as he stabbed the shovel into the dirt.“This is insane,” I whispered, but my voice didn’t stop him. He kept digging.I stood there, helpless, as each scoop of dirt tossed aside reopened a wound inside me. I could barely breathe. “You’re hurting her again,” I said, voice trembling. “This—this is like tearing her soul in half all over again.”Kael paused, just for a second. “Then pray she’s not here.”“Why do you so badly think that Mirabel is Chloe?” I asked again. Chloe's death happened two months ago, even if she managed to survive

  • Marked by betrayal, bound to the Lycan Lord.   A dinner of fire

Author’s POVThe dining room was quiet except for the soft clinking of plates and cutlery as the chefs moved around, preparing the meal. Warm golden light spilled from the chandelier above, bouncing off the silverware and casting long shadows on the polished wood of the table.Kael sat stiffly, his elbows on the table, fingers laced. His eyes were fixed on Mirabel like a predator surveiling its prey. Ready to bounce at any time. Mirabel on the other hand sat across from him, looking calm and composed in a cream-coloured gown. Her hair was neatly pinned back, and her smile never wavered. But Kael wasn’t fooled. He wasn't the type of person that believes in coincidence. He knew something was off— something big. Kael's eyes moved to Orion, who was still talking to Mirabel. Kael didn’t trust Orion—never had. And now, seeing Mirabel seated at his table as the so-called bride-to-be for Ben, everything screamed setup.Xena sat beside Kael, her body tense, hands curled into fists on her la
