Lilith’s POV

Luna Rachel’s words—“Just reject her.”—echoed in my mind as I sat frozen in the room.

For a long moment no one spoke after the clatter of my fork. Then came a knock on the door.

All eyes shifted toward it, but silence reigned until the second knock.

“Who is that? Didn’t I tell you all to stay away from that door?” Rachel snapped.

“It’s me. Cole,” Beta Cole’s voice replied, making me stiffen where I sat on the bed.

“What information do you have for us?” Rachel’s tone dropped, sharper but lower now.

“The doctor. The surrogacy doctor is here.” His voice was hushed. Rowan and Rachel exchanged looks.

“Hello, Alpha and Luna. You’ll want to hear me before you continue this meeting. Open up,” a strange voice followed—the doctor, I assumed.

“How do you even…? Come in, the door is open,” Rachel barked, struggling to mask her anger.

Cole stepped in with a middle-aged man behind him. The casual clothes almost downplayed him, but the spectacles gave him away.

“Welcome, doc.” Rowan greeted him and shook his hand.

“Luna.” The doctor nodded, but Rachel ignored him. “Cole told me about the situation, and I thought I came at the right time.”

“Doc, welcome to the pack, but surrogacy has nothing to do with mates. We both know this,” Rachel said sharply.

“Luna, please be calm. There’s something I ignored last time because I didn’t want to stir waters.” His voice was soft, cautious.

“Go on, doc,” Rowan urged.

“This is a gift from the Moon Goddess. The process will be stronger if the surrogate is connected to one of you.”

Rachel let out a bitter laugh. “That’s a lie, doctor.”

“No, we both know it isn’t. Think about it—a surrogate with ties to the father is more likely to succeed than one without.”

Rowan exhaled heavily, relief flickering across his face.

“That’s why I brought him,” Cole added from the door.

“Shut up and let me think,” Rachel snapped, while Rowan glared at him.

Rachel sank onto the bed heavily, and Rowan hurried to her side.

“Babe, this is for our good. Don’t you see it? There’s nothing between me and Lilith. If I tried… you know the consequence. I’d be dead.”

His words pierced through me, a cruel reminder: I was nothing but a vessel.

I turned my face away as Rachel’s gaze fell on me, hiding the tears burning my eyes.

“What do you mean by that?” the doctor asked Rowan suddenly.

“What?”

“About dying if something happens with the surrogate.”

Only then did I realize he was the only one here who didn’t know.

Rowan hesitated, but I spoke before he could. “My mates. I lost all of them.” My voice was bitter, my chest hollow.

The doctor’s expression softened. “How many?”

“Seven. Rowan is the eighth.”

The silence thickened.

“I see… Well, I’ll introduce myself properly. I’m Doctor Harry, the surrogate doctor. I’d like to run some tests, if you don’t mind.”

“That’s why I’m here,” I muttered with a scoff. “Nice to meet you, Doctor Harry.” I shook the hand he offered.

“I hope you don’t mind that we’ll be seeing more of each other. This may be a long or short journey, so we might as well be friends, right?”

“I don’t mind.”

Now that he was closer, I noticed the few strands of white in his hair, the beard that made him look older yet attractive, and the confident smile that revealed gap teeth.

“So, we’re on good terms now,” he said lightly before letting go of my hand.

Rachel shot me a glance, then at Rowan. Her eyes were blank, unreadable—and that scared me.

“I promise I’ll stay away from him. I don’t even have a wolf, so I can’t scent him or smell him or anything,” I assured her, ignoring the flicker of pain on Rowan’s face.

“I think I’m good with that,” Rachel finally said, and everyone sighed with relief.

I only craved peace and space. I was exhausted, too tired to think clearly, too choked to breathe.

Doctor Harry seemed to notice. “I’ll run my first test tomorrow to see how fit she is, but for now, let her rest.”

One by one, they left, whispering goodnights. I nodded without replying.

At home, I’d been invisible. Here, every gaze was fixed on me—and I hated it.

Talia slipped in while the doctor still lingered, scanning my room for reasons I couldn’t guess.

“Princess, do you need anything?” she asked, her eyes drifting toward him.

He turned at her voice.

“I don’t need anything,” I said tiredly.

She hesitated, eyes still on the doctor. I knew that look.

“Talia.” My tone snapped her back. “I don’t need anything. Go.”

“Yes, Princess.” She hurried out, but not without one last glance at him.

Doctor Harry’s eyes followed her until the door closed.

So much had happened in just two hours.

“There are things we need to change in this room,” he murmured, more to himself than me.

Minutes passed before he finally stepped closer.

“Okay, that’s my cue to leave. Quick question though.” He leaned in, voice low.

“Since your mates can’t stay alive for you… have you tried those who aren’t?”

He winked, then walked out.

My breath caught.

How had I never thought of that?

A wolf who wasn’t my mate might survive me.

Lilith’s POVI waited quietly for Alpha Rowan to come in since I couldn’t see the door from where I lay. When he stepped in, I felt him. This was different, it wasn’t just knowing, it was a pull, like he was part of me.Was this the bond people spoke of between mates? Was this how he felt whenever I was near?I wanted to cry. This was the closest I had ever come to feeling like a complete wolf.Moments later, Talia shifted slowly, and his face appeared beside me. He took my hands in his, and the contact stirred fire within me.What was this?"Hey," he whispered softly, crouching low so his eyes met mine. "Are you okay?"I nodded, tears sliding down my face. The feeling was whole, complete, like I’d found someone who could carry my pain with me."Don’t cry, please. My heart hurts when you do," Rowan whispered, wiping away my tears.I sniffed, forcing a smile. "I’m not crying. I’m happy."He kissed the back of my hand, and my body only grew hotter. I wanted him to hold me, to touch me—a

Alpha Rowan's POV"You’re disturbing Miss Lilith, who has just given birth and clearly doesn’t need this noise. I’d appreciate you leaving," Doctor Harry said, shocking even me.I froze for a moment, confusion stirring, but fought to keep it hidden as I glared at them. The only reason I’d allowed them to speak was because Lilith wasn’t here. Without her wolf, she couldn’t hear from this distance. I had deliberately taken them away from Harry’s workspace."Your time here is up. Show them the way out of this pack, and never let their feet cross it again," I ordered my guards."Yes, Alpha."I hadn’t welcomed them with open arms. I knew firsthand what they’d done to Lilith—I’d witnessed it. For a second, I thought they had changed, maybe come to ask forgiveness, which was why I let them in. Now, I regretted it.At least now I knew better. It would guide my decision-making.Mark—or whatever his name was—I remembered him vividly. That day, he dragged her out with hate in his eyes, like she

Lilith’s POV"I'm Felisha Thronegrave, Lilith's mother. How is she doing?" I overheard a voice from the corridor, and nausea washed over me.What the hell was she doing here?"No, I'm not alone. I came with one of my sons, Mark Thronegrave.""Hello, I'm Mark. We are here to see Alpha Rowan and my sister, Lilith. We heard she is here."I could imagine his smile, and my body froze. Every sense in me heightened. That voice—it hadn’t changed. My hands trembled as I tried to reach for something, anything to defend myself. But I couldn’t even lift them.A few minutes ago, I was staring at the white lines on the ceiling, hollow, like my only joy had been ripped away. And I wasn’t wrong—the only thing that made me valuable in this pack was gone. As I wondered what they now thought of me, my nightmares appeared. The door creaked open, and my breath hitched. Air refused to enter my lungs. They had come to mock me. They should’ve come yesterday—or two days ago—when everything was going well and

Alpha Rowan's POV"We've lost the baby," Doctor Harry announced, and from my side view, I noticed my Luna’s already tense face turn pale as she stared at him."And Lilith? How is she?" I asked without looking at Rachel."Lilith is fine, Alpha. She’s finding it hard to get over the loss, but physically, she’s okay." I sighed deeply and rubbed my temples."I told you not to get your hopes up. It’s quite usual to lose the first one. I was actually surprised it lasted this long," the doctor added, clearly trying to console us."I don’t get it. What exactly happened? You don’t just wake up one morning and have a miscarriage," I pressed.I couldn’t understand it. One minute she was fine and doing well—I made sure of that—and the next she was losing the baby."Oh, well, that possibility isn’t completely ruled out. But that’s where your Luna comes in." His eyes fixed on Rachel, and I saw her twist uncomfortably in her seat."What happened, babe?" I asked softly, turning to look at her."It wa

Lilith’s POVFive months later…“Talia, run a bath for me. I think I’m ready to shower now,” I said, resting on the bed with my heavy stomach and a novel in hand.“I’m on it, Princess,” she replied, rushing with buckets of hot water.I tried to push myself up.“Princess, please wait—I’ll help you when I’m done!” she cried, nearly panicked.“I’m fine, Talia. I can stand on my own.” I chuckled. Why were they treating me like I was sick?“Please, let me do my job. Luna Rachel told me not to let you stand alone.”“I’m pregnant, not sick.” I laughed, sitting upright. It was my fifth month with Alpha Rowan’s first child, and the pack’s expectations were sky-high.For the first time in my life, I felt important. Luna Rachel pampered me endlessly since the pregnancy was confirmed. I did almost nothing, cautious only of getting fat from all the food.Alpha Rowan was excited, though distant. I once overheard him scolding Beta Cole for running his mouth, warning him it could land him in prison.

13Lilith’s POVTwo months later…"I'm pregnant?" I whispered.Doctor Harry nodded, his eyes fixed on the results in his hands. My heart sank, yet a smile tugged at my lips as I sat across from him in his office."I need to inform the Alpha and Luna. They’re waiting outside," he said, finally moving toward the door."How many weeks?" My voice trembled."Three weeks and a few days," he replied with a small scoff, finally meeting my eyes."Thank you, Doc," I whispered."I’m glad you’re happy, but don’t get carried away. Anything could still go wrong.""Nothing will," I cut in quickly. He gave a short laugh, muttering my name, "Lilith," before stepping out.Alone, I walked to the mirror, resting my hand on my stomach. In just weeks, I was carrying another life. It didn’t matter that the child came from Alpha Rowan and Luna Rachel’s requirements—I still felt attached. Two months since Doctor Harry’s arrival, and here I was, pregnant. He had been gentle, probably the kindest man I’d met.
