Chapter Two

The moon goddess chose her and they said it’s fate but I didn’t want this for myself, I’m not going to let this happen.

“ I must find a way to stop this,” I muttered to myself.

“My Alpha!My Alpha,” a pack guard came rushing in, he was breathing heavily.

I turned quickly to face him.

“ What’s wrong?” I asked.

He was still breathing heavily,“ Yout mate she..,”

He trailed off.

“ Can you just calm down and say something,” I yelled.

“ Okay, Your mate she is missing,” he finally says.

“ What?,” I questioned, not out of shock, inside me I was happy.

I don’t even have to bother anymore,I guess the moon goddess could hear my mind.

“ My Alpha?” The pack guard voice jolted me out of my reverie which made me realize that I must have zoned out.

“ Huh? Oh sorry, has any search party been able to find her?” I asked.

“ yes.”

“ I hope she will be found,” I said, deep down I wanted the opposite but I just have to pretend in front of the pack that I’m happy to have found my mate. The one the moon goddess chose for me.

“ You can go now, but call Lucas for me,” I said and he walked away.

I turned back facing the window, I tapped my feet gently on the floor.

“ What do I do now? What do I know?,” I kept on repeating.

I heard the door creak behind me and I quickly turned to look in the direction.

“My Alpha you sent for me,” Lucas says as he bows in courtesy.

“ Yes Lucas,” I leaned close to him and reduced my voice to a whisper,“ I heard my mate is missing, and a search party is already after her, I want you to alter their process.”

Lucas raised his head up slowly, he fixed an awkward stare on me making me wonder if I had lost my mind.

I know what he must be wondering, I’m supposed to be eager to find my mate but I didn’t want them to find her.

“Wh..what..”

He was about to say something but I cut him off.

“ No questions, just do what I asked you to do,” I ordered.

“ Okay my Alpha,” he bowed and walked away.

Lucas was part of the pack guard but he has been like my personal guard even though he is not. He always run my errands and helps me keep secrets away from my Father.

Especially secrets relating to Maya, the love of my life.

Maya has been my first and only love since I was little and I can’t just let a mere decision of the moon goddess ruin us just like that.

That’s why I must do anything to stop them from finding my supposed mate.

I heard the door open, it was my Mother.

She opened the door slowly with a small smile playing on her lips.

“ Hello Son.”

I bow my head to her.

She walked close to me and cupped my face.

“ I know you must be truly worried to hear your Mate is missing, don’t worry we will find her okay,” she says, giving me a reassuring look.

She didn’t know I was no where worried but even happy about it.

“ Mother, stop making it seem that way, you know I didn't really know her before, I can’t just start liking someone I just met,” I blurted out.

She heaved a deep sigh.

“ Son, come on here,” she said, taking my hand in hers and leading to the bed.

We both sat on the bed.

“ You know, the moon goddess has already made a decision and it’s final.”

“ But mo..”

She pressed my hands gently,“ I know , the Moon goddess has made the right choice for you, you just have to open your heart, if you don’t there’s no way you can like her.”

I exhale sharply, this isn’t what I want to hear. Nevertheless I will still do what is in my mind.

“ You know our cultures right?,” she questioned.

I nodded, it was as if she could read my mind.

“ You know what it means that the moon goddess chose a mate for you right?”

“ Of course I do,” I answered.

“ Good,” she said and started to walk away.

When she got to the door, she turned to look at me, “ I hope we find her.”

And then she walks away.

At this point nothing annoys me more than the word ‘ Mate’.

I lowered my head, reviving all that my mother had said.

My thoughts wandered to the day the Moon goddess chose my Mate. When I heard the name, my mind froze. I had looked at her and from her expression it seemed she was shocked too but I didn’t know if it was because she didn’t expect to be chosen as my mate or if it was the same reason as me.

I had looked at the face of the love of my life, her eyes were cold, and she was biting her lips. The moment our gaze met, she quickly looked away and she walked away from the yard.

I knew better that she was angry, that’s why I have to do something now.

What will really happen if someone breaks the rule?

I stood at the spot, her back was facing me, her long brown hair sweeping down her back.

I had sent her a message through one of the pack guards to meet at our favorite spot, which was by the lake.

She was sitting on a stone.

I thought she wouldn’t come after what happened that night.

I swallowed hard not knowing what to say.

“ Maya,” her name rolled out of my mouth.

She turned her head slowly to look at me, she didn’t smile at me. Her expression was neutral, maybe she wasn’t happy to see me or she was still angry with me.

I walked close to her, I sat on the stone close to her.

I exhaled sharply.

“ Maya I’m sorry,” I said calmly, not knowing what I’m even sorry for.I’m sorry that the moon goddess didn’t choose you as my mate? Lame!

Telling that to her will just make her hate me more at this point.

She finally turned to face me, she wasn’t saying anything, just her almond shaped eye staring blankly at me.

I decided to reach for her arms, but she drew it away like a hot metal as just scaled her.

“ Maya, you know it’s not my fault,” I said calmly.

“ But you’re going to be with her forever, isn’t it,” she sighs,“ Nothing can change that.”

“ Maya,” I said softly, reaching out for her hand,“ it’s you and I forever, nobody can change that.”

“ Really?” She rolled her eyes,“ then what are you going to do about her?” She asked.

I chuckled,“ I have my ways, you don’t need to worry about that.”
