Chapter 58: Eager

Nicholas was tucked away in bed by the time I’d gotten back to the room. We hadn’t really spoken much since Aura and Parker had left. In fact, he almost immediately hid himself away. I thought it was strange but perhaps he needed space after facing Aura. However, when I walked through that door, I could tell that something was off between us. He gazed up at me, a hesitant and almost uncertain look on his face. And at the same time, I could tell he was upset.

“Are you okay?” I asked, nearing the bed.

He opened his mouth and then closed it again, almost unable to gather up the words. And so I said, “Whatever it is, just say it the way you’re thinking it.”

My words seemed to take him back a bit and I could almost see his eyes softening.

Then, he opened his mouth again, this time saying, “You didn’t communicate with me before making the decision to get us married…”
