There she comes! See how the dark days cease?

A mate for one, a savior for us all.

[Kayos Adren Prime]

Tucked away behind countless rows and aisles, I work quietly, a calm silence around me.

A pristine comfort, warmth I revel in.

Focused, I straighten piles of books beneath the dull flicker of candlelight. Silver rings gleaming beneath the yellow glow. Alchest scampers by shifting down the endless rows of books neatly stacked in piles down the wide oak table.

I had long completed the task that Shade had set before me, yet I found myself entranced with work, willfully wasting the night away between aisles, piling, stacking—unable to stop.

Unable?

My lips press thinly, a shallow breath barely escaping.

Yes, unable. For if I did—if it ended…

My chest grows heavy, jaw tightening.

I could not allow it. To not have an excuse to stay....

No.

I cannot leave.

Not yet. For with every breath I take, Shade's scent invades me—an amber musk, lavender, sweet—hypnotic.

  • Mated to the Night Wolf   [57.1] THE DEAREST

•|•|•Who is most dear to you? Tell me pup, are they more precious than diamonds, of far more worth than gold? Would you give everything? For is that not what they are—Everything?•|•|•[SHADE SHADOWS]Silence lingers between us.I go so still that one would mistake this moment for a painting brought to life.My heart hammers within me as fast as a drum, taken aback by the dead look in his eye. What is wrong with me? I have no words to speak. Nothing tangible forms from my lips but a misty breath. I look down at my skirt fighting with my mind. But a break from the shadow in his eyes is what I need to get my head straight.I brush it off all too quickly, eyes flashing back to him with a strained practiced smile. For how could he possibly know? —and from t-that far away? My eyebrows tug as the flicker of candlelight illuminates half his face, making his features look almost entirely bathed in shadows. P-Perhaps it was something else entirely he was speaking of. Yes. Shaking it

  • Mated to the Night Wolf   [56.1] RED AND GREEN

•|•|•It is strange that I now see the world through color since I met my Adeline. Not only the shades she paints, but the ones that form around her, visible to my eyes only. When it is Yellow, as it is usually, I am at peace and the Kingdom sleeps. But when it is red…even the leaves tremble. •|•|• [KAYOS ADREN PRIME]I pity Shade. Immensely. It is not her fault that her heart is warm and her eyes kind, or that her lips are so immaculate whenever she speaks beauty weaves between her words—words that lure the wicked and trap the cruel.I am a being of the dark, therefore I am drawn to the light, and she—Is a wild flame flickering in the heart of midnight and though my presence is a sheet of chaos around her, she calms it with waves of hope that scatter the shadows that surround me. And so it is not her fault that what she thought was a simple promise, a pledge of comfort to a friend— was far more dangerous. For it was spoken to the Lord of Night...and I am a selfish creature. • Mated to the Night Wolf   [55.1] CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT

•|•|• In the Black Years, they came. When we were lost, and the Shadows mocked us. With them came light and hope. Tell me, how do we repay the heavens for sending their angels? •|•|• [SHADE SHADOWS] A strangled gasp tears from my throat as I fight for air, the feel of the cold hard ground beneath me as I stare up at the ceiling. Blurry faces peer down at me, paired by distant sounds speaking inaudibly above me. Hands immediately come to my aid as my vision slowly clears, and with it, the desperate voices of the company around me. Slowly, I make sight of Vale's, Eves, and Dula's worried faces, and yet whatever they are saying is drummed out by a low ring that reverberates in my ear. I blink numbly my gaze shifting back up to the stony ceilings. The realization hits me just as quickly. I fell. From the height of the stairs. "Shade? Shade?! Can you hear me?" Vale's panicked voice calls. Her hands cup my face, her frightened eyes frantically search mine. My eyes

  • Mated to the Night Wolf   [54.1] A SLAVES SAVIOR

•|•|• There are no Saviors here. We all fear death. •|•|• [SHADE SHADOWS] MY FINGERS gently sift through the red littered in his dark locks, humming the old song softly. The world is silent, as if it too listens to the ballad my heart sings to him, but I am much more fascinated by the steady rhythm of his breathing to notice. He lies before me, his head resting in the drapes of my skirt, so beautiful that I find it bold that despair would dare touch him. That tears should dare bleed from his pretty eyes. My eyes trace every feature on his face, eyes shut, lips barely parted taking slow breaths in and out. I sit in the middle of the aisle, the ground cool beneath me. His head pillowed in my lap. He is calmer now, beneath my touch I can barely remember his anguish. He is at peace. Peace. It strikes me now that I have seen this version of my master. Lying in the field of flowers in my dreams. Serenity mirrors around him. My eyebrows slightly knit for I re

•|•|•I beg of you, Moon, listen to my heart. Cast your anger aside for my sake.If you must take a life, then take mine. But let him live….And then let him love. •|•|•[MASTER GREGORY]The day has come. I cannot believe it has finally arrived.I thought perhaps I would be ecstatic, that my heart would leap with joy at the sight of the Noble carriage that drew to the front of the Night Court. For in it lies our supposed salvation. The ender of this Nightmare that grows steadily every day. But that has changed. Everything has changed now.I watch as the Alpha of the Shadow Pack, hobbles against his cane toward the carriage. My head tilts slightly when it opens and his Luna steps out.But she is not what was awaited. My mind is far gone in anticipation until she reveals herself—she who is betrothed, the light to lead us out of this chaos. Alpha Cains' Oldest daughter, Vivian Cecilia Pryd. She is a beauty to behold, even I can see that. Still, she is not what I study. My gaze shi

  • Mated to the Night Wolf   [52.2] BONUS CHAPTER (KAYOS POV)

•|•|•They whisper things they think I cannot hear, they look at me and point. And yet, despite it all, I remain unseen. •|•|•[KAYOS ADREN PRIME]Color exists in this world. Even in my Court of Night, I have found it is simply impossible to be completely rid of. Often I have thought perhaps it is there to remind me I have not yet been devoured entirely by chaos- therefore hope still exists. Ridiculous...yes, yet still at the back of my mind, I've thought that this color lights a narrow pathway out of this darkness I have concealed myself in. A simple reminder that even the wicked and the cruel can be redeemed. Mm....Where is this color now? The world is silent, as the shadows deform behind me, the portal disappearing back into complete chaos. I do not remember how I tethered here. I am numb and gone all at once.A steady rhythm immediately sets in my ear, a heartbeat I am all too familiar with. My gaze rises at the sound, shifting through the dim candlelight of the library,
