The Longest and Most Annoying Goodbye

Matthews P

Matthews P.O.V

Mrs. Finkleston folded her hands together and said "Hmmm.. Where shall I start?"

"Grandma there's no need to bore them with old stories. I think its time for us to go." I said smiling to her, now hoping to get out of here as fast as I can.

Even if we did stay and I let her make up some fake embarrassing stories, I don't want her 60 year old mind to go overboard and make me really embarrassed.

If she's going to say an embarrassing story, I'll deal with the 'Peed in the bed' story, or a 'Calling my teacher Mama' story.

One of my real embarrassing stories would be when my real grandma Dila Day, caught me masturbating in my room when I was sixteen and let me tell you, dinner that night was really awkward. We had to hold hands to pray for our food and guess who's hand I was holding?...Grandma Dila. Ever since that day, grandma Dila made sure to never sit by me at the dinner table ever again.

"Oh no dear, its alright. Im sure we have time." said Mrs. Finkleston breaking me out of my thoughts.

"No, we don't."

"Yes, we do."

"Grandma..." I said in a warning tone.

"Grandson..." said Mrs. Finkleston mimicking me.

I'm starting to think this old lady's messing with me.

"I have to go to work and Im sure your husband—I mean grandpa is eating a bit too much of the Twinkies back home."

She sighed and said "Alright, let's go."

She turned to Ali and said "Maybe next time dear. "

"Alright. Bye Mrs. Finkleston. See you next time." said Ali

She turned to Mark and said in a apologetic tone "Goodbye Mark. It was nice of you both to let us join you for breakfast. Im sorry for interrupting your breakfast date. You're such a nice boyfriend."

"He's NOT her boyfriend!" I said a little bit to loudly causing everyone in the cafe to look at me.

Talk about making a scene.

Mark laughed and said "Oh, this isn't a date and Ali isn't my girlfriend."

It's about time, he said something smart.

"Although it would be nice to go out on a date...with Ali" said Mark with a grin.

I spoke to soon. That bastard! He's hinting to Ali that he wants to go out on a date with her! What the hell? He just met her!

Mrs. Finkleston laughed and said "Im sure Ali would love to go out on a date with you."

I'm starting to get a serious headache. Bringing Mrs. Finkleston was a bad idea. In fact I should have just given Ali the damn cab in the first place.

"Yes, Mark I'll go out on a date with you." said a blushing Ali.

Mark grinned and said "Perfect."

Ali grabbed a napkin, wrote her phone number on it and handed it to Mark.

"You can call me tonight at 8:00." said Ali.

"I guarantee I will." said Mark.

"Awww... so cute!" cooed Mrs. Finkleston.

Thats it! This has to stop!

"Grandma lets go and Ali YOU are coming too!" I said with a firm tone.

Ali looked stunned and turned to me, and points to herself saying "Why do I have to go?"

Yeah Matthew... Why do you want her to leave with you?

"Because...Because—You start work in ten mins!" I said stuttering a little in the beginning.

"What time is it?" Asked Ali

Oh crap! I didn't even look.

"Its 7:20." said Mark

FINALLY LUCK IS ON MY SIDE!

Honestly I didn't even check the time. Talk about 'A Close Call'.

"Alright. Goodbye Mark. Thank you for breakfast and the cab." said Ali with a apologetic tone.

What? He didn't even pay for your breakfast! I did! The cab part... I'll let that one go.

"It's no problem. I'll talk to you tonight. Bye." said Mark with a small smile

I grunted and then mumbled "bye" to Mark.

That is the longest and most annoying goodbye I have ever been through.

As I was walking ahead of Mrs. Finkleston and Ali towards the exit, I heard a scoff from behind and the word Jealous. Im betting the scoff is from Ali and the word jealous was coming out of Mrs. Finklestons mouth.

I admit, my way of saying goodbye to Mark, was a bit rude, but at least I said "Bye." And for the Jealous part, I am not a jealous man. I never was and never will be. I don't know what would make the old lady think Im jealous. Maybe she was talking about Mark. Yeah, Im pretty sure it was Mark.

Once we exited Starbucks I told Ali and Mrs. Finkleston that I would call a cab.

After I called the cab and waited for it to safely pull over to the curb. I Turned to Mrs. Finkleston and gave her the money for her cab fair and told her "You can take this cab by yourself home."

"What about you and Ali?" she said confused.

"It's alright. I'll call my driver to come pick Ali and I up, to take us to work."

On that note, she got into the cab and headed off back home.

Ali turned to me and shouted "YOU HAVE A DRIVER!?"

Oops... I forgot she didn't know.
