POV: Aria

Morning light scraped across my window like someone had dragged a coin over the glass. It didn’t feel like a new day. It felt like the same question repeating itself.

What am I?

I pushed the covers off and sat up slowly, bracing my elbows on my knees. The ache from last night’s… whatever-it-was… still lingered beneath my ribs. Not pain. More like a pulled thread, trembling.

I dressed on autopilot—jeans, sweater, hair up—and forced myself downstairs.

I reached the bottom step just in time to see Maya stumble through the front door carrying a duffel bag and the world’s most pathetic potted plant.

I blinked. “Are you moving in?”

“No,” she said, brushing past me, “I’m aggressively haunting you until you start acting normal again.”

“Maya—”

“Also my ceiling collapsed. My landlord is useless. I refuse to drown in my sleep, so yes, I’m moving in.” She planted the potted plant on the kitchen counter like a declaration of war. “This is Pete. Don’t kill him.”

I stared at the cactus. “I

  • Moonlight Pact   CHAPTER 27 — The Road Doesn’t Let You Go

POV: MayaNo one spoke. Not when we turned off the gravel drive. Not when the house disappeared behind the trees. Not even when the road narrowed into something that felt less like infrastructure and more like a suggestion. The headlights carved tunnels through the dark. That should’ve been comforting. It wasn’t.I watched the forest slide past the windows, branches blurring together, shadows folding and unfolding like the woods were rearranging themselves just out of focus.“So,” I said finally, because silence was starting to feel dangerous. “Just ch

  • Moonlight Pact   CHAPTER 26 — What Follows When You Run

POV: Maya“Okay.”No one reacted.I said it louder.“Okay.”Still nothing.Rowan was already moving, slow but determined, shrugging into a jacket like pain was an inconvenience he planned to ignore. Aria stood frozen in the middle of the room, eyes unfocused, breathing shallow. Kai’s footsteps crossed the downstairs floor with purpose—too calm, too controlled.“So,” I continued, because apparently I was the only one whose brain hadn’t shut down entirely, “when you say pack the car, do you mean metaphorically? Like spiritually? Or do you mean we are about to flee the state in the middle of the night because the forest is hav

  • Moonlight Pact   CHAPTER 24 — The House Filled With Breathing

POV: RowanThe moment I crossed the threshold, my knees almost gave out.I caught the edge of the counter with one hand—quietly, I hoped—but Maya still noticed.“Sit,” she said, already dragging a chair toward me like I weighed nothing.“I’m fine.”“You’re bleeding,” she snapped. “That’s the opposite of fine.”I didn’t argue after that. Mostly because the room was tilting.Ash growled in my head—not angry, just frustrated we weren’t hunting the rogue down and ripping its spine out.Not now, I told him.He didn’t like that.

  • Moonlight Pact   CHAPTER 25 — The Border Answers

POV: KaiThe house was too small for what waited outside it.I could feel the border like a live wire wrapped around the property—humming, vibrating, reacting to every breath inside the walls. The rogue had retreated. The scent of blood remained. The old presence stayed. And somewhere beyond that—Darius. Not close enough to touch. Close enough to taunt.“Upstairs,” I repeated, voice low, leaving no room for debate.Maya’s eyes widened. “Why do you keep saying that like the stairs are a magical safety portal?”“Because I need you away from the wind

  • Moonlight Pact   CHAPTER 22 — The Border Isn’t Still

POV: KaiI didn’t knock.I stepped into Aria’s living room the moment Rowan opened the door for me. His expression said everything before his mouth could. He’d felt it too.The shift. The awakening-under-pressure.The old presence hovering at her line.Aria stood near the window, hands wrapped around herself, shoulders tight. Her wolf was still inside her, still quiet—but the edges around her felt thinner. More permeable.Vulnerable.Dangerous.

  • Moonlight Pact   CHAPTER 23 — When the Woods Bite Back

POV: MayaAccording to my search history, I was either:a) writing a very bad horror novel b) losing my mind c) accidentally doing a PhD in “weird forest shit”My phone screen glared up at me from the kitchen table, surrounded by an embarrassing number of open notebooks, Grandma’s copied pages, and three empty coffee mugs.Tabs currently open:“shadow in the forest folklore”“old European forest spirits”“can forests be sentient???”“wolfborn myth”“signs you’re cu
