Heartbreak

You headed to Lunch with Ella before the game, you enter the cafeteria to see Kain sitting with Zack.

"We don't have to sit with them, if it will make you uncomfortable." Ella smiles.

"No, it's okay." You sit with Zack and Kain, Zack meets your gaze.

"I'm sorry." He gives you an apologetic look.

"I told you we are done!" You snap at him.

"Please, I didn't mean to I was drunk." He begins.

"Our relationship meant nothing to you, I don't want to hear any more." You reply coldly.

Your phone buzzes, Nate's name pops up. 'You good?' You look around to see Nate sitting a couple of tables away, you give him an unsure nod.

"So-erm- You excited for the game Olivia?" Kain asks trying to break the tension.

"I erm..." Before you can finish your sentence, Madison comes bouncing over.

"Where have you been hiding, I haven't seen you in forever." She beams.

"I've been busy." You smile at her.

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything, this looks serious." She looks at you concerned.

"No, you're fine." You smile.

"Great, I wanted to grab you before the game, we have a dinner reservation booked tonight, I know you and Sam aren't speaking but maybe you and Zack would want to come." Madison begins to explain.

"We broke up." You tell her.

"Oh, I'm sorry, well maybe you could bring Ella?" Madison suggests.

"Sorry barbie, I have plans." Ella giggles.

"Oh, hum, I was really hoping you'd go." Madison looks lost.

"I'll take her." Nate appears behind you.

"Where did you come from?" Madison gasps.

"Over there." Nate points to a couple tables away.

"You need a date right Olivia?" Nate smiles at you.

"Not a date, but you can come I guess, Sam will be there." You explain to him.

"Good, I want to clear the air with him too." Nate explains.

"Oh, okay." You look at him shocked.

Zack slams his tray onto the table. "Do I not get a say in this?" Zack snaps.

"why would you?" You snap back.

"You're my girlfriend and you want to go for dinner with Nate!" Zack hisses.

"We broke up." You shout.

"I didn't say we did." Zack snaps.

"It was my decision, I want to go to dinner with Madison." You feel the claws coming, the anger building, you glance at Nate. He seems to pick up on the situation.

"She's told you it's over Zack, respect that." Nate backs you up.

"Keep out of it." Zack growls at Nate.

"No, Madison, take Olivia to cheer please." Nate smiles at Madison.

"Sure thing." Madison hurries you out of the cafeteria and out of that situation.

"Remember we have to motivate the team to kick butt today." Madison begins her pep talk.

"I'll try, I kind of want to see Zack crushed though." You reply sadly.

"Then cheer for Nate. That will piss Zack off." Madison suggests.

"Sure." You giggle.

The bell for the game goes, you and the rest of the cheer squad head out onto the football field, the stands filled with students, the boys begin to funnel onto the field as you begin the warm up routine.

"Go Cubs, crush the competition." Madison cheers.

"We have the best team, you're not winning." Taylor adds.

"GO NATE!" you yell loud enough for Nate to hear, Nate looks over to you, on the side-lines and gives you a smile, Zack is visibly sore about it.

"Go Zack, the star quarterback." You roll your eyes at Taylor.

The game gets to half time, Cubs are winning by 2 points, Nate jogs over to you.

"Why doesn't my biggest supporter give them a half time cheer they won't forget." A devilish smirk crosses his face.

"You're on." You smirk and then you whisper to Madison, she commands the cheer squad to take their places, you fire off the sassiest cheer ever, now is the pyramid. I have to be at the top. You climb to the top, it wobbles a bit, you manage to stay up successfully, as you get thrown down, Taylor is meant to catch you but she doesn't.

"Fuck, my ankle!" You yell out in pain. Madison and Nate rush to you.

"Taylor what the hell are you doing? You're supposed to catch Olivia!" Madison scolds Taylor.

"So? When did you start caring about the freak?" Taylor cackles.

"She's Sam's little sister." Madison remarks.

"So, it's not like she's family." Taylor continues to laugh.

"I don't care, you had one job, you're off the squad." Madison hisses.

"Fine." Taylor storms off as you cradle your ankle. The whistle goes, Nate needs to go back to the game.

"Go, do your thing, I will be fine, I'll just watch you." You sigh, sadly.

"I'll take you for ice cream after the game, promise." He smiles.

"I'm not a kid, but I'll hold you to that." Nate shakes his head laughing, he heads back to the game.

"So are you bringing Nate to dinner tonight?" Madison asks.

"What about Sam?" You ask.

"Leave him to me, we have something we need to tell you." She beams.

"Sure." After the game ends, Nate comes jogging back over.

"How's the ankle?" He looks at you concern in his face.

"Swollen and sore." You reply.

"I'll take you to hospital." Nate remarks.

"I'll be late for dinner and I want to change." You protest.

"No time, come on." You wave to Madison as you're about to stand up to walk to Nate's truck he scoops you up and carries you.

"Hey! I can walk." You squeal.

"You could barely stand up." Nate gives you a serious look.

Nate carefully places you in the passenger seat, he climbs in and drives you to the emergency room. On the way to the emergency room Nate talks to you.

"What's so important that Madison is being nice to you?" Nate asks.

"She's been being nice ever since her and Sam began dating." You explain.

"I thought he was with your weird friend, Tanya?" Nate looks shocked.

"Tara and they broke up before summer." You explain.

"Why?" Nate looks concerned.

"She moved away." You reply sadly.

"Do you and her still speak?" He asks.

"No, we did once, when Madison tagged me in a picture on mybook, but other than that no." You sigh.

"You miss her?" Nate asks.

"I did but not so much anymore, she has a whole other life, new friends, new place." You explain, trying to stay positive.

"The old friends are the best." Nate gives you a cheeky grin.

"She seems to disagree." You remark.

"We are here, come on." Nate smiles.

Nate grabs a wheelchair and lifts you into it, he heads into the hospital.

"We need to see a doctor, I think she broke her foot." Nate explains, a hint of panic fills his voice.

The receptionist looks between you and tuts, shaking her head, she hands Nate a form and tells you to sit in reception.

"We have to fill these in and then a doctor can see you." Nate explains, After an hour, a doctor showed up.

"Miss Yates, come on through." The doctor comes to collect you out of the waiting room.

Nate wheels you into the doctors office, the doctor begins to examine your ankle.

"It's definitely broken, I'll get you cast up but you're going to need rest for six weeks." She explains.

"Six weeks?!" You look at her stunned.

"I'm afraid so, I'm sure your boyfriend can help you get around." She smiles, looking at Nate.

"Oh, he's not my boyfriend." You dismiss her.

"My apologies, he's a good friend. Do you have anyone who can help you?" She asks.

"I'll do it." Nate blurted.

"You have football practice and stuff." You look at him stunned.

"So? You can cheer for me from your chair." He jokes.

"Thanks." You giggle.

"We won't be long." The doctor explains. The doctor wheels you to get a cast on, twenty minutes later you're back with Nate.

"Miss Yates chose to have crutches. I'll see you again in six weeks, to remove the cast." The doctor explains to Nate.

"Thankyou." You hobble back to Nate's car.

"Can we please swing by my dorm so I can change before dinner?" You ask him.

"Sure." Nate laughs.

Nate drops you off, he heads to his dorm, you hobble to yours, you enter to see Ella, Kain and Zack.

"We didn't know you'd be back this early." She looks at you stunned.

"What happened?" She looks down at your ankle.

"Zack's girlfriend happened." You snapped.

"Wtf Zack." Ella snaps at him.

"Taylor didn't mean to drop her." Guilt written all over his face as he says this.

"Yes she did, I'm not getting into this right now, I'm late for dinner, I just came to change." You begin to grab an outfit.

"Sure thing, Zack was just leaving anyway." Ella smiled.

"Don't if you want to be friends with him, that's okay." You reply sadly.

"After the stunt he pulled consider him unfriended." Ella snaps at Zack.

"Sorry man, the lady has spoken." Kain adds.

"Whatever." Zack storms out and you head to the bathroom to change.

Sam said werewolves heal fast, does that include bones?

You walk out of the bathroom. Wave goodbye to Kain and Ella and head down to meet Nate.

"How do I look?" You give him a twirl, the long purple chiffon dress drapes over your cast, Nate stands looking stunned at you.

"I'll assume the silence is good." Nate nods and helps you in the car, after a short drive you arrive at the restaurant. You and Nate rush in.

"Sorry I'm late." You give Madison an apologetic look.

"It's okay, how's your ankle?" She asks.

"It's broken." Sam looks past you to Nate.

"Did you do that?" Sam snaps.

"No, Zacks girlfriend did." Nate snaps, completely unaware of the fact Sam has no clue you and Zack split up.

"Wait, I thought Olivia was dating Zack?" Sam looks between the two of you, confused.

"This is gonna be a long night, can I sit down before I get twenty questions?" You ask.

"Fine." Sam grumbles, You and Nate take a seat.

"Start from the beginning then." Sam blurts out.

You sigh and take a sip of water before beginning.

"Zack and I broke up." You begin to explain.

"When and why?" Sam asks.

"Yesterday and because he kissed Taylor at a party." You remark.

"He kissed Taylor at a party, that's not a big deal right?" Sam laughs.

"We were in a relationship." You explain.

"Did he apologise." Sam snaps.

"Yes but that's beside the point!" You remark.

"What did you do to your leg?" Sam snaps.

"Taylor failed to catch me during our cheer at the game." You explain.

"Accidentally?" Sam asks his voice filled with anger still.

"No." You reply.

"Why's Nate here?" Sam growls.

"Madison invited him so I had a friend here." You explain again.

"You didn't think to ask me first?" Sam turns to Madison and glares at her.

"It was last minute and we had a table for four, why does it matter." She replied bluntly.

"I don't like him." Sam snapped.

"Nate's a good guy." Madison smiled.

"whatever." Sam huffed.

"Anyway Sam, do you want to tell Olivia why we invited her?" Madison smiles at you.

"Yeah, Madison is pregnant." Sam blurts.

"So what does that mean for cheer?" You ask, concerned the only thing keeping you going to cheer may leave.

"I'll make you the cheer captain." She smiles at you.

"Oh right and congratulations on the baby." You beam at her.

"Congratulations both of you." Nate remarks, smiling at Sam and Madison, Sam huffs to himself.

"I wanted to clear the air, I'm not mad at you for killing my father, I just want your permission to protect Olivia." Nate goes on to add.

"Fine." Sam replies, he seems a lot calmer.

"Nate gives him a nod and you finish up your dinner and head back to campus.
