Serena's pov

Derrick stared at me for a while., my chest hammered and I wondered what had happened.

“I'll get the door.” Derrick said and with a tight jaw and precise movements, he pulled a shirt over his head and put on his jeans.

Since the first knock, my heart has continued to race. Something was strange and quite urgent. I cast a quick glance over his shoulder as he opened the door. One of his warriors, I believe his name was Jonas, was standing there. I sighed in relief and tried to make out what he was about to say.

He was usually serious and calm but now his breathing was rapid and his eyes were wide. With one respectful nod he said “Greetings, Alpha, we have spotted rogues.”

“What are you saying?” Derrick said, his face quite unreadable.

“Close to the eastern boundary and surprisingly, they are more powerful this time. Better-organized.”

Derrick's face instantly changed. “What is the number?”

“We’re not sure yet.” he said in a very small voice which was barely above a whis

Serena’s POVMason’s capture had torn through the pack, leaving everyone on edge. I stood outside Derrick’s office in the hallway just outside the door, my fists clenched, nails digging into my palms. The scout words repeated in my head “They took Mason. They left a message.” I was seizing up with pain at the thought of Mason — good, kindhearted Mason, who’d always shot me a smile when no one else would even spare me a glance. He didn’t deserve this. None of us did.But Derrick’s face that was what haunted me the most. The look in his eyes when that scout said Rhys’s name, the way he’d squeezed his fists as though he was holding something inside. He was terrified, not only for Mason, but for me. For us. And that terrified me the most—because it meant Rhys wasn’t some reckless rogue with a vendetta. I couldn’t remain here, all of the while, waiting for Derrick to make a decision about my future. I wasn’t the broken Omega that ran from the Moonrise pack nor was I the shattered girl who

Serena's pov After giving instructions to the guards, we left and he asked the perimeters to be fully secured. I was supposed to leave but I stayed behind and I didn't know if I was scared or something else.It was too quiet in the packhouse. No training drills or laughter echoed from outside. Not even the younger wolves who typically ran carelessly through the halls spoke. I could feel the anxiety, the tension and the way everyone seemed to be holding their breath in my chest. But only Derrick. He had been locked in his office pacing silently ever since we returned from the border. He remained silent with me. did not give me any look. He simply closed the door. It also hurt more than I wanted to acknowledge, I still don't know what to do or think. I wanted to give him some space. He might need more time. But I was pushing away a stronger, louder side of myself. There were a lot of things I wanted to tell him and I didn't know if I should go ahead. I knocked, once and then twice a

Serena's pov I was warmed when I awoke. But the sun and his arms around me made me feel so safe and warm that I wanted to go back to sleep. His breath was gentle against the back of my neck as his arms were firmly encircling me. I stayed motionless for a moment and then I shut my eyes briefly. His grip was firm as if he wanted to keep me safe while he slept. And a tiny dangerous part of me didn't want to go, I was supposed to feel that this shouldn't have happened but I didn't. I lay there and looked up at the ceiling. Although I felt calm, my heart was already pounding. His lips, his hands and the way he gazed at me as though I were something he had been waiting for, were all fragments of last night that came back to me. And I smiled at the memory.“Stop shoving him away.” I said to myself. I wasn't sure how to feel in the morning silence. But last night was a mistake. I squeezed my eyes closed. I never wanted to think that way. However the truth thumped loudly in my chest like

SERENA'S POV I swallowed hard, my hands balled into fists at my sides and I turned away. I had the feeling that I was wading through an impossible phase of my life with each step I took toward the door. I had to get out of my heart before it engulfed me in its battleground of opposing emotions.I quickly wiped my face, took a sniff and lifted my head and told myself that crying won't solve this, that crying won't stop him from rejecting me if he wanted to.He grabbed my hand as my fingers touched the doorknob. “Serena. “ He called, his voice was rough, low and laced with rawness, a desperate sound which I didn't want to hear at all. My breathing was too shallow and too rapid and I froze, not out of fear but because I didn't know what to do, to go out or to stand here and listen to what he had to say.But I didn't want to. Even though I wanted to run out of that door, something was stopping me, holding me from doing so. Because I knew that I would fall if I did. “Derrick let me go

SERENA'S POV I exhaled and I stared at my fingersSadly the past has a way of entangling itself in the present. I could never get rid of it no matter how hard I tried to push it to the back of my mind. Elliot had left me so broken that loving again was like gambling and I wasn't sure if I wanted to love again. And here was Derrick, my heart was beating. I never imagined telling Derrick about my mate, Elliot the person who turned me down and threw me away as if I were unimportant, like I was just a piece of trash that should be taken out immediately and how foolish I was that I had allowed me make love to me and now I was carrying his child. As I relived the pain however my voice trembled and I muttered the words one after the other. “He didnt want me.” I muttered my throat aching from the memories. “ I thought that he did, like I was the best thing that had ever happened to him.But then everything changed and he claimed that I wasn't deserving of him. Sophia was better and hr cho
