Chapter 276

Author: Baby X
Miranda had wondered whether she might run into Felix at the airport, but thankfully, he wasn’t on her flight.

When she returned to Atlantis City, the first thing she did was pick up Mia and take her home. Susan had once often invited Miranda over to the Gibson estate for dinner, but over time, she came to understand that even if she asked, Miranda would never accept.

“Mia, say goodbye to Grandma.”

“Goodbye, Grandma.”

Mia had spent three days at Gibson estate and was clearly missing Miranda.

That evening, Mrs. Young prepared a hearty dinner. The gift Miranda had mailed from Hamilton had already arrived, and Mia was overjoyed, spinning around the living room with it in her arms.

“Thank you, Mommy. I love you the most,” Mia said, puckering her lips for a kiss.

Miranda crouched down, smiling as she leaned in to let Mia kiss her cheek. She half-expected Mia to ask about Felix, but to her relief, Mia said nothing even as bedtime came. Miranda finally exhaled.

Miranda returned home and went straight into the study. Mia and Airi were playing in the living room. Airi was like a thoughtful little companion, answering Mia’s questions one by one and making her laugh. At dinnertime, Miranda’s phone rang. She picked it up and glanced at the screen.Felix.She had no intention of answering and hung up right away.Soon, a message notification sounded. Feeling annoyed, Miranda picked up the phone again and checked it.“Mia has a slight fever.”Miranda’s breathing stopped for a moment. She stared at the message for a few seconds, then immediately stood up and went to the living room. She saw Mia curled up on the sofa, clearly lacking her usual energy. Miranda reached out and touched her forehead. It did feel warmer than normal.“Mom, what’s wrong with me?” Mia asked curiously.“It’s nothing. Mommy’s just going to take your temperature.” Miranda brought over a thermometer and held Mia in her arms while they waited five minutes. When she checked

“Miranda may have given birth to a daughter, but she’s still Felix’s child,” Fiona said. “From what I have heard, he adores Mia.” She felt like she cared more about the situation than Xena did.Fiona had assumed that once Miranda divorced Felix, Xena would step right into the Gibson family and take her place as Mrs. Gibson. Yet now, there was not even the slightest sign of that happening.“I know what I’m doing,” Xena said as she set down her glass.Fiona grew frustrated. “You’re not even worried that Felix might still have feelings for her?”“Do you actually understand what kind of person Miranda is?” Xena asked, looking up.Fiona froze. She had never bothered to understand Miranda. In her mind, Miranda was beneath her. But Xena’s question forced her to think. What kind of woman was Miranda?Fiona finally gave her answer with a dismissive huff. “She’s arrogant, full of herself, and only gets anywhere because of her connections.”Xena’s eyes darkened, and she gave a faint smile

The text message came from an unknown number, but the tone made it obvious to Miranda who had sent it. It was Xena.Miranda stared at the message for a few seconds before replying, “Then keep your dog on a leash.”A response came almost immediately. “Miranda, aren’t you scared I’ll forward this to Felix?”Miranda let out a cold laugh and typed, “Go ahead. Send it to him.”She tossed her phone onto the passenger seat, started the car, and pulled away from the curb.Fiona walked into a downtown cafe with her bag in hand. By the window, Xena lounged against the sofa, staring off at nothing. When she heard footsteps approaching, she lifted her head. Fiona’s entire expression was etched with frustration and bitterness.“What happened?” Xena asked.Fiona sat down and rubbed her temples. “We underestimated Miranda.”“On the phone just now, you told me Felix was holding her arm. Are you sure that is what happened?” Xena asked. She had come to confirm it herself.“I saw it with my own

Fiona’s pen scraped harshly across the page, leaving a deep, jagged mark through her notes. She lifted her head and glared at Miranda, who was calmly explaining her ideas. A tight, burning jealousy churned in Fiona’s chest.“I believe synaptic regeneration theory,” Miranda said in a steady, professional voice, “is the key to solving the rejection issues in brain-computer interface integration.”“I agree with Miranda,” Sally said with a nod.Everyone else seemed just as impressed. Zion kept nodding along, clear admiration in his eyes.Fiona sat there in silence, her nails digging hard into her palm. Every expert in the room was a heavyweight in brain-computer interface research, yet Miranda was once again the one offering the key theoretical breakthroughs. The scene dragged her back to their days at the medical university. She remembered pulling Miranda aside and telling her very plainly to withdraw from the lab and go home to be a housewife. Those words felt like boomerangs now,

Felix’s grip tightened around Miranda’s arm. She whipped around, instinctively trying to pull free.“Let go of me.” Miranda yanked her arm hard.Felix looked at her with a storm of emotion in his eyes. His lips parted as if he wanted to say something, but the disgust in Miranda’s gaze hit him first. He could not believe she now recoiled from him this much.Miranda’s voice was sharp and cold. “Felix, let go. Otherwise, I’m calling the police.”Just then, the conference-room door opened from the outside. James stepped in. His expression darkened the moment he saw Felix gripping Miranda.“What are you doing, Mr. Gibson?” James’s voice was low.A moment later, Fiona appeared behind him, unable to hide her shock at the scene.Felix did not look at James. His eyes stayed locked on Miranda. The hatred and revulsion in her expression made his fingers loosen.James immediately reached out, took Miranda by the arm, and pulled her behind him in a protective stance.“Mr. Gibson, if you h

Felix had always thought Miranda lived in his shadow, dependent on him for direction. He was wrong.Miranda had talent. She had ambition. She had a path of her own.Two years ago, while Felix had no idea where she even was, she had already been standing at the forefront of their field.Felix felt a tight pull in his chest.Across the table, Fiona’s expression fell apart. She stared at the screen, then at Miranda, disbelief gathering in her eyes.Could it truly be Miranda who made the first breakthrough in the brain-computer interface project? It seemed impossible and completely absurd, yet the evidence sat right in front of her.The video shifted to the next scene.Miranda stood beside an examination platform with several researchers around her. She was attaching a brain-computer interface to a paralyzed monkey. After a few precise adjustments, her voice came through the speakers, steady and full of quiet resolve.“Begin the test.”The entire room held its breath. For sever
