Chapter 8

Caroline’s POV

This business trip to London is one of the longest ones, most of the business trips I do are for two to three days but this one is going to be four to five days, as I am going to do more meetings with all the huge companies to tie them with us. I have got a few presentations done by myself and a few by Samael.

As soon as I reach the parking lot of the airport, Peter took my luggage with him as we enter the airport. I spot Samael and a girl around 10-years-old, who I assume is his sister. She is wearing jeans and a yellow top, and her blonde hair were tied in a ponytail as she looks at me with her green eyes, curiously. Samael waves his hand at me as I walk towards them. He is wearing a peach t-shirt with a black jacket and black pants. He looks good in casual as I have always seen him in formals.

“Good morning, Ms. Martinez.” Samael greets me with a smile as soon as I reach them and sit on one of the chairs, in front of him.

“Good morning, Mr. Wright.” I greet him back as I lean back on the chair while I look at the smiling girl beside him.

“Ah, this is my sister Ella.” He notices my gaze on her and introduces her to me.

“Hi, I am Ella wright. It’s nice to meet you, Ms. Martinez.” she introduced herself to me with a raised hand and we shake our hands.

“Hello, Ella. It’s nice to meet you too and you can call me Caroline, sweetheart.” I said with a smile and she blushes at the nickname.

“Okay, Caroline! Thank you for allowing me to come with you, I am so excited to go to London!” she said with enthusiasm and I am impressed by the way she talks. She looks just like a 10-year-old but talks like a mature person.

“Are you, now? It’s great to hear, Ella.” I question her playfully and smile when she nods her head at me. It feels nice to interact with a 10-year-old as I don’t get a chance to speak with children. It’s refreshing.

I look at Samael and see him watching Ella with a soft smile. One thing I can pick from his expression is that he loves and cares about his sister. It’s nice to have someone care for you, I once had but I don’t. But why do I care? I don’t.

***

We land in London around 7 pm, so we go straight to our hotel and take the keys to our rooms. Peter in one room, me in another, and Samael with his sister in the opposite room of mine. I take a hot bath to relax from the ten-hour flight I just landed from and then change into something comfortable, like grey pants and an off-white oversized sweatshirt.

I heard someone knocking on the door of my room and I opened it to find Samael sanding on the other side. He was now wearing a grey t-shirt and track pants his hair was wet indicating he had taken a shower. He looked at me and smiled when he took in my outfit, probably because he saw me for the first time in something rather than formals.

“Ella and Peter left just a few minutes ago.” He informed me and I just gave him a nod. Taking my key card, I slipped it in the pocket of my pants and we walked towards the elevator waiting for it to reach our floor. Samael cleared his throat and I looked at him with a raised eyebrow. he visibly gulped before speaking.

“I wanted to apologize for everything that I said to you last time. I am sorry, Ms. Martinez. It was very wrong of me to speak to you the way I did, but I was worried about Ella and I know that’s not an excuse. Honestly, I thought I lost my job after that, but thank you for not firing me.” He said nervously in one breath as he scratched the back of his neck, while his hazel eyes bored into my blue once.

“Oh, I was going to fire you, Mr. Wright,” I said folding my hands and narrowing my eyes at him before continuing, “And I would like to warn you that if that happens again, I won’t think twice before firing you from my company.”

“Yes, I would keep that in mind,” he replied and when the elevator’s door opened, we saw a young couple in the elevator standing holding their hands as they smile at each other. I rolled my eyes at them and there was tension in the air as soon as we entered the elevator. The elevator was not huge and preferably only for five people at a time. I was able to smell Samael’s cologne which smelled minty-earthy ish and his body’s warmth as he stood behind me.

The elevator stopped at a floor and an older woman entered the elevator. I felt Samael’s breath on my neck as my hair was tied in a messy bun and a shiver ran down my spine. My breath hitched when I turned around to look at him. I didn’t realize we were so close until then, as he looked down at me. His hazel eyes looked beautiful up close and I never noticed how handsome he is. My breathing became shallow and my eyes fluttered as he gazed at them.

I non-intentionally bit on my lower lip and his eyes went to my lips within a second. I saw him gulp and clench his jaw before his eyes snapped back at my eyes. The elevator’s ding brought me back to reality as the elevator stopped. The older women got out with us from the elevator and I took a long breath to compose myself as I was breathing unevenly.

“Are you okay?” Samael asked me and I cleared my throat before replying to him.

“Fine,” I said and he kept looking at me for a few moments before we walked towards the dining area to have our dinner. I mentally scolded myself for behaving like this and subsided the foreign feeling that arose for Samael.

‘Stupid, Caroline!’
