Chapter 1

Lenka

“Why are you crying? You’re incapable of saying anything from that mouth of yours?” He said as he looked at me coldly.

Michael and I had been married for two years, but he had always been a nightmare to me with his attitude. The love I used to feel that made me live in heaven slowly disappeared after my vows with this man.

Now, he was acting as usual. As I tried to figure out what my husband was really thinking.

“How pitiful, Lenka.” Michael grabbed my chin, rough and painful.

Another pain made me sob. The sting of his cold, piercing demeanor, he never cares about that.

“Speak!”

Another wave made me unable to breathe correctly, but I wasn’t a puppet he could always control. Tears continued to flow and made my eyes red.

I forced myself to reply to the words of this dangerous man, Michael Vonhof, the leader of the Dragontooth mafia. When I first met him, he was sweet and gentle. He only asked if he was an ordinary, responsible worker.

This was the opposite of what I had always thought about the life choices that turned out to be tricky.

I found he was always sick of me answering him with hand gestures. With my mouth open, I moved quickly to answer his words with sign language.

[I don’t want you to keep me here!]

[I have the right to leave; I have the right to do what I want.]

[Please, Mike. I want you to talk to me about my real faults. Don’t be like this..]

I always talk to him in sign language. In the past, he would reply in the same way, but now...., he swatted my hand away with great force and I fell on the bed.. The man was on top of me, restraining my body with his veined hands.

If I had known he was the mafia leader, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with him.

Inarticulate cries came out repeatedly. I was trying to survive.

“I hate you so much. You’re so disgusting.”

I held on until he got away from me, the anger and hurt so great that it drove courage and defied danger.

[Aren’t you the disgusting one, Mike? You have other women besides me]

I felt tears silently streaming down my face. Really, I tried not to show weakness in front of him. However, I do love him very much. My heart is always weak in front of him.

Michael brushed his hair back with a snort. “Stop talking nonsense.”

There was a time when I was sad that he would be by my side, worried about me, and ready to do anything. That was before our marriage. After that, he has never done it.

I struggled to breathe better. He had come out of this room and heard his orders to his subordinates, saying I wasn’t allowed out. Michael was treating me like a bird in a cage.

Early in the marriage, I overheard complaints from some of his men. A dumb person, being the wife of a highly feared mafia leader, tarnishes her.

To them, I was a disgrace. At the time, I was still thinking positively. Whatever it was, as long as Michael was by my side, I could get through it.

But I was wrong.

He ignored me.

Several times, I refused to let him ignore me. I behaved as usual by spoiling him. However, that turned out to be true.

One thing that made him look warm was when he was making love to me. His touches made me happy. I felt he really loved me.

But only to that extent.

Despite the many times we had sex, I wasn’t pregnant. Another rumor spread that I was a barren dump.

Now, his love belonged to another woman.

When I woke up, the servants were already in my room. They were doing their work without saying anything. Getting involved with me was certainly not profitable at all.

My eyes met with one of the maids.

[bring me chamomile tea]

I wrote it.

She exhaled harshly from her mouth, and the maid beside her saw it. I became their concern.

“Can’t you just drink the prepared tea? We’re swamped.” She allowed her big voice to answer my question.

Uncomfortable. The servant here dared to be rude to me because I had never been treated well by Michael. She ignored everything they did.

[Alright. I’ll drink that tea]

I slowly removed the blanket from my body after answering her words.

The maids seemed to have lost their thoughts because they laughed so much that they didn’t care about me here. With chaotic hand gestures to insult me, they took it as a mockery.

I ignored them, sitting on the chair after pulling it weakly. Days that went on like this, I tried to endure even though this heartache was weakening my entire bodily functions.

A glass of hot tea in the morning reminded me of my father. I’m sure my eyes teared up remembering him. But he is no longer in this world, the only sincere person.

Just as I was about to take a sip, the maid bumped into my body. The tumpeng hit my hand and thigh.

Hot like burning my skin, then I stood up, fanning my thighs and hands repeatedly. As soon as I realized if this was intentional.

“You should have been more careful, Miss.”

I knew it.

They left this place, silence filling the room. I felt grateful for that.

“All of you... I should have grabbed that woman earlier.” I said to myself, wiping away my tears and taking a breath to pretend this wasn’t a problem.

A messy breakfast was in front of me, and I savored it with a very long sigh.

My heart was aching. Being ignored is a bad thing. For these two years, I lived without being able to connect with the people I used to know, like my friends and so on. I felt so lonely.

But in front of Michael, every time, I tried to cover up my sadness and improve our relationship.

At that moment, I noticed my surroundings. The mansion was well decorated. Many fresh roses and lilies were decorated in several corners, even on the railing. I just remembered that today is our second wedding anniversary.

Michael seemed to remember that and wanted to surprise me.

“Why is she here? She shouldn’t be here. So annoying.”

Some of the servants who were working were talking coldly. I ignored them, mainly because I was in a good mood. With this surprise, it meant that our relationship would really get better.

I should have realized when he said I’d continue to be in the mansion.

A flash of happiness crossed my eyes as I looked at the lily that was my favorite flower.

Then the door opened, and a woman hugging Michael’s arm intimately entered. The man with the cold, sharp face was smiling at her.

“Uh, Lenka, why are you here?” a soft voice with a nonsensical question.

It was more appropriate for me to ask her that.

[I’m the Madam here, miss Ava Wentz]

“I don’t understand what she’s saying,Mike.” She ignored me, clinging to Michael more than ever.

Michael gave her a cold stare as she approached. His emotions seemed so bad, and his tenses made me uncomfortable.

“You should have stayed in the room.” His tone was clearly laced with resentment.

He was known as a man who did not love his wife.

[But Michael, I didn’t expect you to throw a party for our second wedding anniversary]

I addressed this with pretended calm.

“Don’t dream. This is a party for Ava, not for you. So go back to your room. Don’t come out until tomorrow.”

Hearing his words had given me something so painful. Everyone there seemed to be mocking me for how they looked at me.

I should have realized that sweet things never happen. Michael Vonhof would be very proud to introduce Ava Wentz as his woman because she is not a dump and is one of the daughter of a famous mafia family as well.

At the time, I knew that for sure. Even though tears were dripping from my eyes, I continued to walk fast and locked myself in the room.

This was no sudden decision. We were supposed to get divorced.
