Violet's POV
The room was spinning!
I could swear everything around me was swirling out of control. I was grateful that none of the objects hit me, even though it felt like I was trapped in the middle of a spinning vortex.
With shaky knees, I made my way forward. I clutched the wall for support as I was too scared to walk without it. My eyes were blurry and in the darkness I could hardly see anything.
Today was my best friend Kiara Hudson's seventeenth birthday. She was our pack's alpha's daughter. While I'm an omega, I took plight in sharing that I was friends with the most amazing person I've ever known in my life.
Kiara was kind and loving. We met at a funfair organized in the pack. I had gone there with the other kids from the orphanage I was from.
Yeah, I'm an orphan. The warden at the orphanage told me that I was three years old when someone left me sleeping outside the orphanage's gate. They left a letter saying that they were too young and broke to raise a child. And that I was mistakenly conceived, and couldn't be aborted because of no money.
Although I have no memory of my childhood, I know that I was raised like a daughter by the warden of the orphanage who I still visit, Mrs. Edith Johnson.
A trip to the fair was our farewell treat by Mrs. Edith Johnson. While her husband owned the orphanage, she happily helped raise the kids that were brought in. She was a mother by nature and decided to help the kids rather than following her dream, which was to become a painter.
But that doesn't mean she stopped painting. She taught us, the kids at her orphanage, to paint, and I feel honored to share that I was one of her best students. A born painter!
Anyway, we were all taken out by her when we were about to leave the orphanage at the age of fifteen. In my pack, it is considered that a fifteen year old wolf is grown enough to start taking care of his or her expenses. Not to mention that we have plenty of jobs available for the teenage wolves that we can take up to earn for ourselves.
Besides that, there's a hostel facility in our pack that provided shelter for orphans like me and underprivileged kids who were either kicked out of their homes or were simply rogue wolves seized at the border.
Our Alpha, Arnold Hudson, and Kiara's father was a considerate Alpha. He paid attention to young wolves more than the adults. He believed that we were the future of our pack, and if we were provided with the right resources and education, we could be an asset.
I swiped a gaze around the grand hall to look for Kiara. We met at the fair that night. I recall looking at a happy family of three, enjoying ice-cream together with tears in my eyes. The parents were caring for their daughter like she was their treasure, and I couldn't help but stop in a daze and admire their love.
They had made me think about my parents and why they couldn't keep me. I was red and sobbing when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
A girl was standing next to me with a smile and two ice-cream cones in her hand. I had flinched away and bowed in respect as it was none other than Kiara Hudson, the only child of the Alpha and Luna of our pack, the cherished princess. Who wouldn't know her!
Everyone was aware of her as she was seen on television and magazines beside her parents every other day, doing social services. She was being advertised largely for the people in our world to know that she was the future Alpha Female of Blackstone Pack.
I had been utterly scared, assuming that I somehow offended her by being in the fair. What I didn't know was that I influenced her for some reason, and she was more than excited to be friends with me.
And then, we have been inseparable since that day. It's been two years since that night. Two years since I became a princess from an orphan.
Kiara was kind enough to request her Alpha father to let me stay with them. He happily agreed and I got a room beside Kiara's. We're like... Sisters. And we're the same age, it's just that I'm six months older than Kiara.
She didn't do anything without me. I was overly protected and loved by her, and that made others around us bow their heads when they saw me. I was seen as part of the royal family, and Kiara's love made everything seem so natural.
That's right. Everyone looks at me with that gaze of amazement and treats me like a princess.
Because whatever comes in the Alpha's house for his daughter, it comes in a pair. One is for Kiara, and one for me.
That's why the dark blue gown I'm wearing tonight on Kiara's birthday is identical to her dark red gown. She insisted we wear matching gowns because Kiara had been down with unwavering fever on my birthday. I refused to celebrate it without her. So to make it up to me, she insisted I wear the same dress as her and cut the cake with her given I turned seventeen six months ago.
Seventeen is the legal age for us. We are recognized as adults and it's after turning seventeen do we find our mates. I haven't found mine yet, sadly. But I'm excited for Kiara.
Anyway, we've just cut the cake and fed it to each other. Then champagne was brought in. We posed for pictures with our glasses before downing it in one big gulp. For some reason, my champagne felt off to me.
As a person who spent two years in the company of the Alpha's daughter, the heiress of the pack, I was no rookie to the taste of different kinds of drink. And champagne was my favorite.
However, it tasted a little bitter today. Not as fruity and sweet as I knew its taste. And then my head started spinning while Kiara was dragged away by her mother to introduce her to some VIP guests. My knees trembled and I realized something was definitely wrong with my drink.
Still taking support of the wall, I tried to peek over the heads of the excited guests as they hooted and clapped for someone dancing in the middle of the room under the spotlight. My vision was teary and blurry but I recognized the face and the gown. Kiara was dancing with Alpha Arnold. My lips curved seeing her so happy.
Guess I should join them even if I'm a little tipsy. I'm sure once Kiara notices my condition, she will guide me to my room and call a doctor for me.
I was about to move away from the wall and take a step ahead when a hand came around my mouth, yanking me back. My skin turned cold in fright as I was lifted off like I weighed nothing and dragged in the darkness at the back of the hall.
What transpired next changed my life forever.

47Violet decided to ignore them initially. They weren't worth her time. She picked up the mop and started gliding it over the floor again, mercilessly avoiding them. The girls clenched their teeth. They shared a look as if Violet's silence was an insult to them. Benita hissed sharply and kicked the bucket, splashing water all over the floor. Her friends laughed as if she did a great thing. "Oops, I'm sorry! I lost my balance and accidentally kicked it." The girls laughed harder at the comment while Violet froze. Her eyes reddened with a surge of anger that she couldn't explain. Her fingers tightened around the shaft of the mop. Anxolia wasn't just giving her confidence, it was also fueling her emotions like rage, impulse and irritation. She tamped down her fury and let out a chuckle. She raised her eyes up at the girls, catching them off guard. "That's unfortunate, Benita. You look so fit and healthy, it's a shame your bones are actually so weak that you can't even stand up pro
46She checked herself out and raised her eyes smugly at her reflection. "Let's go to the library to read something." She put her bag on the right shoulder and turned the knob of the door. Violet bumped into someone and they both stumbled back with a wince. A loud thud echoed, followed by the splash of water like a bucket tipping over."Oww! My nose." She heard a cry. Although it hurt, the effect of anxolia made the pain less. Violet looked up and her lips upturned into a smile. It was the janitor girl, who helped her yesterday. "It's you. Hi, I was thinking about meeting you." Violet gushed. "Me too," The young woman opened her eyes, she was still rubbing her forehead. "But what are you doing here so early? School doesn’t start for another three hours yet. "I know. I just wanted to catch up on the syllabus. I was heading for the library. Let's go to the canteen now, though. I wanted to talk to you." Violet grasped her arm. "I have cleaning to do. I don't think..." "I'll help
45Violet stood quietly watching the school building under a bright blue sky. The air was fresh and cool. The sunshine was not prickly, it was rather very warm and ticklish like a soft caress. The birds were chirping excitedly as it was the early hours of the morning. No one had arrived yet. No one would because school was still four hours away from starting. But Violet came early. She had to or else she would have not been able to attend any lecture, let alone think of coming to school again. Her fingers tightened around the straps of her bag. She was nervous. There were lines on her forehead and her heart thudded like someone was hammering a nail into the wall. She gawked at the massive school building with her skin burning with goosebumps. "Alright, I've taken the first step. No one’s here yet and I can go about my work without the risk of being caught. I just need to be quick." She muttered and gulped the knot in her throat."Alright!" Violet took a deep breath and sprinted to t
44The clothes... Violet tugged at the hem of the top. It wasn’t hers. Neither were the pants. She had something else on her body when she left the mansion in the morning. But now, she had a completely different outfit on."Did mom notice? Should I tell her?" She pulled at the top, memories of how it came to her flashing back.Flashback...Blood. There was an unimaginable amount of blood on the tiles around Violet's body when she gained her senses back. She whimpered in terror as she touched her palms to her cheeks. Everything felt coarse, broken, out of place. She could feel the splinters of broken bones prodding her skin on the face. She could feel the prick under her fingers while her face was numb. Violet wept, unable to recall anything. She just remembered that she had been brutally punched in the face by Kiara, and then she passed out. Getting up from the bloody floor, Violet looked at herself in the mirror and seized her mouth in a vice-like grip to keep from screaming. Her fa
43Kiara reached home first given she threatened the driver to break all traffic rules and get her home quickly. This was her. All the time. She always pushed others to break the rules for her but when they got caught, she lectured them about discipline… Pretending she hadn't been the one who made them cross the line.Kiara jumped out of the car and bolted inside the mansion. She turned the corridors and stopped only when she was outside her father's room. She heard loud moans and her father's grunts but anyway she barged inside, catching Alpha Arnold off guard. "Aaahh!"While the maid he was pounding into let out a shriek and scrambled off the bed with the blanket around her body to hide herself, Alpha Arnold frantically searched for another piece of cloth he could use to cover himself."Uh, er, honey, you could've waited for me in my cabin. You didn't—""It's urgent, dad! We both can't afford to delay this conversation. It's about Violet." Kiara said as she clenched her fists."But
42"Oh no, what do I do?" Violet sweated profusely. Her chest stung from lack of proper breath as she was hyperventilating. She didn't want to, but her body was buzzing. All the memories of assault done by the men inside the mansion, or outside, came roaring back."No, please, no. Why now? Oh moon goddess! It's just the first lecture. I still have the whole day to go through." She sobbed.Violet splashed more water on her face. She checked here and there for any hidden lipstick or a compact powder. She wanted to hide that look of terror. She didn't want to be a prey."Please, Please..." She checked under the sink, behind the trashcan and even behind the hand drying machine. She was still frantically searching for a piece of broken lipstick or anything she could use when the door burst open. Violet ceased all motions. She battled to stand still but she failed
