Emily's POV

'Tap!' 'Tap!' 'Tap!'

"What the actual fudge," I sighed. I waited for a good five minute listening to the sounds around me before deciding there was nothing there before closing my eyes to go back to sleep.

'Tap!' 'Tap!' 'Tap!'

This time I was wide awake. I kicked off the covers and turned on the bedside lamp.

'Tap!' 'Tap!' 'Tap!'

I got up and walked towards the window, ready to give whoever woke me up what for. Armed with a scowl that would scare Hades himself, I threw open the curtains and looked outside. Standing out in the garden below my window was my best friend, Jenny.

"What the hell girl, I nearly said some unsavoury things." Jenny just grinned from ear to ear listening to me vent a little. I didn't expect anything less from her.

"Just be grateful I didn't throw the larger stones", Jenny said, grinning, which caused both of us to giggle.

Quickly coming back to reality, I remembered that Jenny was still standing on the lawn, "What are you doing here at..." I paused to look at the time on my phone, "2:45 in the damn morning!?" I exclaimed.

"Did you forget what today is?" Jenny asked in shock.

"It's Saturday, there's no school" I replied dumbly. Jenny sighed with an eye roll. "OK, looks like I'm going to have to remind you." From behind the tree, Jenny pulled out a bag of gifts and balloons, "Happy Birthday bestie!" she shouted.

"OMG!" I shouted before I squealed and ran out of the room, down the stairs and out of the front door, crashing onto Jenny, which resulted in both of us crashing to the ground in fits of laughter.

"I am so sorry. I have literally just got off a double shift and forgot that it was our birthday today."

Both of our mums gave birth at the same hospital on the same day, literally two minutes apart, and became the best of friends and have been inseparable. This then resulted in Jenny and I growing up together as best friends. We think of each other more like sisters as we spend so much time together. This is not uncommon in the werewolf community and today is our 18th birthday. We are now old enough to shift into our wolves and eligible to find our mates. The only thing we worried about was that we would find our mates in different packs and move away from each other. We haven't spent a day apart since we were born.

When we expressed our concerns to our parents, they laughed, "Unfortunately, that's the way life is darling." my mum would say. "The Moon Goddess works in mysterious ways," my dad would then say as he added a wink and a warm hug.

"Tomorrow is the full moon. Are you ready for the first shift?" Jenny was bouncing from one foot to the other.

"How can you be so excited about it?" I questioned. " You know that we could also find our mates too. What if they are from different packs? What if they think you are good enough and I am not and reject me or vice versa or we both get rejected?"

"Breathe", Jenny said with a warm smile on her face. She gently held my shoulders and pulled me in for a hug, "There's a lot of what ifs in there Emily," she began, "But, what if they are in the same pack? What if we are both good enough?" Jenny calmly said.

"I suppose you are right. I just don't want to lose you. You're my best friend, my sister, and I don't know what I would do without you," I explained.

"Let me stop you right there. No matter what happens, nothing or no one will take me away from you." Jenny said whilst keeping eye contact. Her way of showing that she is serious when saying something. This made me relax a bit, making my shoulders sag a little more.

Something everyone in our pack knows about me is that I am fiercely loyal to anyone whom I trust and who is loyal to me. I can tell backstabbers or gossipers, users, and abusers from a mile away and Jenny is just like me. We keep each other balanced.

Jenny is a blonde bombshell, and she knows it. Curves in all the right places, chocolate brown eyes and a mouth that can put a sailor to shame, but she is working on that as requested by Alpha Declan Haywood.

Me, on the other hand, am quite the opposite. I have dark, wavy hair, eyes as blue as the ocean and extra curves which I didn't ask for but can't seem to get rid of and am also kind of an introvert.

After tonight, things were going to change, but neither of us realised how much.
