21. New truths

The moon was still shining bright in the sky when Marcus and I reached my dorm. I was looking down at my fumbling fingers as the car came to a halt, and felt Marcus’ eye on me. We stayed there in silence, unable to figure out how to proceed from there. After what felt like eternity, I finally broke the ice.

“I think I should get going.” I mumbled, “Thank you so much for today, Marcus, truly.”

He gave me a heartfelt smile, “Of course.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow at school then?”

“Sure, have a good night.”

“You too.”

When I got down the car, I finally felt like I could breathe the air in. I let out a sigh of relief. As much as I loved his company today it was borderline suffocating, not because of him, but because of the new situation that we found ourselves in. I genuinely appreciated whatever he did for me till now, but our new found desire for each other overwhelmed me. Simply, I didn’t know what to think. I didn’t know if I wanted to be happy or sad. Did I even have a future with him? W
