Chapter Nineteen

"No, don't!" I cried. "She said I would start bleeding. Let's get showered, and you can take me to the emergency room,"

Derrick looked down at his phone, then back at me, and shook his head as if a war was raging in his head. Then he stalked over, picked me up, and carried me to the restroom. He placed a hand on my cheek, kissed me on the forehead, and started taking my bloodied clothes off. He turned the shower on, then stripped himself of his clothes and helped me into the shower.

Derrick, as usual, worked to get me cleaned off, helped me out of the shower, and then went on to clean himself off.

When we were ready, Derrick carried me to his truck as if he feared how fragile I was and could break into a million pieces at any moment. It was silent as Derrick drove, and all I could do was stare outside at the stars. Our baby that we had created was now an angel; it was no more. The song halo came on, and the waterworks kicked into high gear again.
