Chapter 27

We head to the meeting spot and Shane takes my hand in his, rubbing the back of it with his thumb. It feels like the walk to the border takes hours when in reality it maybe takes a few minutes.

I see the top of the hill and I quickly release his hand and clasp my own together in front of me, knowing who will be on the other side. Shane visibly stiffens and lets out a low growl that is barely audible. He seems like he is saddened by my actions although I am sure he understands my reasoning behind them.

“Try to remember the last twenty-four hours and what I have said to you beautiful. I meant every word but will respect whatever decision you make this morning.” He doesn’t even look my way when he says this to me. I don’t think he wants to look in my eyes. To be honest I am glad he doesn’t because it may cause me to make up my mind on the spot.
