Kisses, Lies And Secrets

The party was chaos. Music pounded through the walls, laughter spilling from every corner of the massive house. Expensive cars lined the driveway. Everything about it screamed elite.

I stood beside Avery near the entrance, trying not to look as out of place as I felt. “Told you it’d be fun,” she grinned. Before I could respond, people swarmed her. “Avery!”

Within seconds, we were surrounded. “This is Zara, my roommate,” Avery introduced quickly. Curious looks followed. I smiled politely, even though I felt like I’d stepped into someone else’s world.

Then someone shouted, “Tony Kavinsky is throwing this party!”

My stomach flipped. Tony. Which meant… Damon.

Avery grabbed my hand. “Drinks. Don’t move.” And just like that, she disappeared.

Five minutes passed. Then ten. The music got louder, the room hotter, people pressing closer. I exhaled and went to find her. Bad idea. One wrong turn. Then another. Soon I was upstairs where the music faded and the hallway dimmed. Quiet. Too quiet. I turned the corner and stopped. Damon Thorne leaned against the wall like he’d been waiting. My breath caught. He straightened slowly, eyes locking onto mine. “Well,” he murmured. “Butterfly. Lost already?”

“I’m looking for Avery.”

He stepped closer. Too close. “You came to this party without knowing the house?”

“I didn’t know Tony owned it.”

A slow smirk. “Careful. Your attitude is dangerous.”

“You started it.”

Silence stretched between us. Heavy. Tense. His gaze dropped to my lips. My breath caught. He leaned closer. Everything slowed. My heart pounded. Just a little closer..

I stepped back. “I can’t.”

His expression darkened. “Can’t?”

“This is a bad idea.” I turned and walked away before I could change my mind. Halfway down the stairs, I saw him. Tall, broad shoulders, effortless presence. Our eyes met and something shifted. He looked at me like he’d just discovered something interesting. Unexpected. My breath caught. His gaze wasn’t cold like Damon’s. It was sharp. Curious. Almost playful.

“Kai!” someone called. He looked away briefly. When he looked back i was already gone.

Later, Avery dragged me to the backyard where a bonfire burned and students sat in a circle. “Truth or dare!” she announced. I already knew this was a bad idea, but before I could escape, I was pulled down beside her.

The game started. Laughter, teasing, dares. Then.. “Kai. Truth or dare?”

I looked up. It was him.

“Kai Ryder.”

He leaned back casually. “Dare.”

A grin spread around the group. “Kiss the girl you find most attractive here.”

My heart stopped. No.

He stood, scanning the circle slowly. Then his gaze landed on me. My pulse roared in my ears as he walked straight toward me and stopped right in front of me.

“Hope you don’t mind,” he said quietly.

And then he kissed me.

Everything disappeared. The noise, the people, the night. His hand tilted my chin gently, the kiss soft but electric, warm and unexpected. My heart slammed against my chest. Then he pulled back. Cheers erupted around us.

I couldn’t look away. And he smiled... like he already knew exactly what he had done to me.

Across the circle, Damon looked furious, jaw tight, eyes dark. Without a word, he stood and walked away. Elias watched everything, his expression unreadable but not happy.

Later inside, the music was louder, the air heavier. I tried to shake everything off, the kiss, Damon, Elias but my head spun. I stepped onto the dance floor and collided with someone. Strong hands caught me instantly.

“Careful.”

My heart jumped. Damon. His eyes were darker now. He’d been drinking.

“Dance with me,” he said. Before I could protest, he pulled me closer, his hand settling on my waist. Too intimate.

“Why are you doing this?” I asked.

“I saw that kiss.”

“It was a game.”

“I know your secret, Zara.”

My world stopped. “What?”

“That video from your old school.” "The one you transferred to for senior year."

My chest tightened painfully. “How do you...”

“I can keep it buried,” he said calmly.

My throat went dry. “What do you want?”

“A fake relationship.”

I stared at him. “What would you gain from that?”

“I’m Damon Thorne. Someone like me should have a girlfriend.”

That wasn’t the real reason. I could feel it. But my options were disappearing.

“If I say no?”

Silence.

Answer enough.

I exhaled slowly. “…Fine.”

Something in his expression softened. “Good.”

But across the room, Elias was watching us and his expression darkened.

DAMON Seven minutes. That was the rule. That was the expectation. That was what everyone outside that door was waiting for.And yet...I hadn’t moved.Chloe leaned back against the wall, watching me like she was trying to figure me out.“You’re seriously going to waste this?” she asked, folding her arms.I let out a quiet breath, dragging a hand through my hair. “Depends on what you call a waste.”Her lips curved slightly. “Most guys wouldn’t hesitate.”“Most guys aren’t me.”She hummed, pushing off the wall and stepping closer anyway. Confident. Calculated. Used to getting what she wanted. Her hand brushed my chest again, slower this time.Testing.Waiting for a reaction. There wasn’t one. Not the one she expected, at least. Because my head wasn’t here. It was outside. With her. Zara. The way she looked at me when she walked in.The way her expression shifted when she saw Chloe standing too close. The way she turned away like it didn’t matter... Except it did. I saw it.“You’re thin

The energy in the room shifted the second Cameron took control. It wasn’t just excitement anymore. It was anticipation. Danger. Mess waiting to happen. People moved closer, forming a tight circle around him, drinks in hand, eyes sharp with curiosity and hunger for entertainment. “This,” Cameron grinned, raising his glass, “is where the real party starts.” Cheers erupted. Loud. Wild. Uncontrolled. I stood between Elias and Avery, my pulse already too fast, my emotions still tangled from what I had seen at the bar. Damon. Her. That image refused to leave my head. “Relax,” Avery nudged me lightly. “It’s just a game.” “No game here is ever just a game,” Elias muttered under his breath. And something about the way he said it made me believe him. “Alright,” Cameron continued, scanning the crowd. “Let’s start easy.” His gaze landed on Tony, he signaled him to start. Of course it did. Then Tony... “Avery,” he pointed. “Truth or dare?” She didn’t even h

By the time night fell, I was already regretting saying yes.Not because I didn’t want to go.But because I didn’t understand what I had agreed to.I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection like I was trying to recognize the girl looking back at me.This wasn’t me.Or maybe…It was a version of me I hadn’t allowed myself to be before.“Okay,” Avery’s voice came from behind me, sharp and amused. “You’re definitely not dressing like you’re going to sleep.”I froze slightly.I turned slowly. “I was just...”“Don’t,” she cut in, walking closer, arms crossed, eyes scanning me. “I know that look.”“What look?”“The ‘I’m about to do something reckless’ look.”I let out a small breath. “It’s not reckless.”“It’s always reckless when Damon Thorne is involved.”That made my heart skip.Annoying.“You know about that?” I asked.Avery snorted. “Zara, this is Blackthorn. Everyone knows everything.”That wasn’t comforting.“At least tell me where you’re going,” she added.I hesitated

I woke up famous. Not the good kind. Not the kind where people admire you.The kind where people watch you.Every move. Every step. Every breath.Because by the time I stepped out of my dorm that morning, my name wasn’t just Zara Corven anymore. It was Zara Corven-Damon Thorne’s girlfriend just like the other day.And apparently…That meant something at Blackthorn.A lot.The stares started before I even made it down the hallway.Doors cracked open just a little wider. Conversations paused mid sentence. Phones tilted slightly in my direction like I wouldn’t notice.I noticed.I noticed everything.“Is that her?”“That was fast…”“She doesn’t look like his type.”I kept walking. Head high. Steps steady. Like I hadn’t heard a single word. Like I wasn’t one wrong whisper away from my past catching up to me again.Because that was the problem. It wasn’t just attention. It was dangerous attention. And Damon? He didn’t just attract it. He controlled it. Which meant...Now I was standing rig

  • Offlimits at Blackthorn    First Day As His Fake Girlfriend.

Being Damon Thorne’s “girlfriend” lasted exactly three hours before I realized something important.Blackthorn didn’t just notice things. It fed on them. Every hallway I walked through, every class I entered, eyes followed me, whispers trailing behind like shadows. That’s her.Damon’s girlfriend. The scholarship girl.I kept my head down, gripping my books tighter.Invisible. That was the plan. Now?I was the topic. And I hated it.“Hey.”I looked up instantly.Elias.Relief hit before I could stop it.“Hey,” I said, my shoulders easing slightly. He studied me for a second. “You okay?”I hesitated, then nodded. “Just… adjusting.”He didn’t look convinced, but he let it go. “Come on. We’ve got that assignment.”Normal.I needed normal. We settled in the library, papers spread between us. Quiet. Focused.“This question is straightforward,” Elias said, pointing at the text. “You’re overcomplicating it.”“I’m not overcomplicating it,” I replied, already flipping to another page. “I’m ques

I didn’t sleep. Not really.Every time I closed my eyes, it replayed.Kai’s kiss.Damon’s voice.I know your secret, Zara.By morning, my head was pounding and my chest felt too tight for my own body. And the worst part?I had agreed.A fake relationship. With Damon Thorne.I stared at my reflection in the mirror, brushing my hair slowly, like if I moved too fast everything would fall apart.“What kind of first day turns into this?” I muttered.“A fun one,” Avery’s voice came from behind me.I glanced at her through the mirror. She was sprawled across her bed, scrolling through her phone like nothing in the world could shake her.“I’m serious,” I said. “I think I made a mistake.”She sat up instantly, eyes lighting with interest. “Oh? Is this about last night? Because I heard things.”My stomach dropped. “What things?”A slow grin spread across her face. “That you kissed Kai Ryder.”Heat rushed to my face. “It was a dare.” "And you were there."“Mmm,” she hummed. “And then Damon dragg
