Nyx's POV
Starweaver Pack. I was standing beside Alpha Harrison in the Consultation room. I was only ever there to clean the place up. I wasn't sure why I was standing there, at least not yet. The only thing was that this stranger had saved me from being sold to the wolves of Castamere. His unannounced arrival had people of the pack running helter skelter just to please him. I did not know what the fuss was all about. The only thing I kept hearing from most of the wolves was that Caleb Syder was in our territory. My eyes fell on Caleb Syder. He was seated in alpha Harrison's usual spot, which could only mean that alpha Harrison was far below him. He had a very huge frame. There were several tattoos running all over his body. His face was free of tattoos or several beastly marks on other parts of his body. His brown eyes complemented his brown hair greatly. He's a very handsome person. His face was expressionless, making it very impossible to read if he was going to save me or not. It hit me that he might have only just delayed my sale, and done nothing more. I tried not to think too hard about it. If he turns out to be worse, I'd do something that'd force them to want me dead. I can't keep living like this. Not for one second more. "Alpha Caleb Syder of the Moongaze pack!" Alpha Harrison called with a smug smile. "It's an honor to have you in this humble place." "It's more than an honor." Luna Cara added quickly. She was kissing his ass, which affirmed what I could already sniff out. Caleb Syder is more influential and powerful. On the biggest level! Luna Cara had treated people above her horrible over the time. This one only meant he was way above. "Cara, you are as ravishing as ever." Alpha Caleb said, smiling at Cara. Cara returned his smile with a devilish blush. "And it is also an honor to be here." "How is the most beautiful Luna Caramel?" Alpha Harrison asked. "She is alright. Keeping up with my indecency at least." Zoe came in and served food round the table. Food has never been served in the Consultation room, but rules always change. "I'm not here for food." Alpha Caleb said, rejecting the food. Zoe held back for a second and looked to alpha Harrison for what to do next. Zoe only packed up after he gave her the go ahead with a nod. Zoe packed the plates off everyone's tables and hurried outside. "May I ask what you're here for then?" Alpha Harrison asked. "I can't speak in front of so many people. I was hoping to have an audience with you alone." Alpha Caleb said. "It is done!" Alpha Harrison clapped his hands and the room was cleared out, leaving only the alphas, the betas and Luna Cara. I was walking silently when his voice stopped me. "Not you!" Alpha Caleb called, making me stop dead in my tracks. I slowly turned back to look at him. His eyes were on me. I bowed to avoid looking at me. "What is your name?" "Alpha Caleb, I'd advise you not to be interested in someone so lowly." Luna Cara interrupted before I could speak. "Her lineage has a trait of betrayal and ..." "Shhh..." Alpha Caleb shushed Luna Cara up. The look on Luna Cara's face was every bit precious. I would gladly die if that look was the last I'd see on her face. "What is your name, girl?" "Nyx." I replied softly. "A beautiful name for an omega." He replied. My heart might have skipped a few beats. No one has ever paid attention to my name but Zoe. It was said that my mother wrote the name on my body, with her blood, right before she died alongside my twain. It was another reason why the pack grew up hating me. "Thank you, alpha." I responded, bowing slightly. This might be good. I might finally have peace. He might not be as horrible as the Thomas's. I really hope he takes me away. "What offence was about to get you banished?" Alpha Caleb asked, standing up and walking to meet me. Everyone else in the room stood alongside him. Such reverence! "I.... I.... I..." I stuttered nervously. He was standing right in front of me, smelling far more expensive than any perfume I had ever smelled. "Relax girl." Alpha Caleb said, touching my shoulder. I shivered a little at the feel of his touch. "Take a deep breath." I did as he commanded. I drew a very deep breath, looking down. He held my jaw and tilted my face up till our eyes met. "Now, speak. I won't hurt you." "I... I...." I paused, taking another deep breath. "I spilled water on the Luna unintentionally and broke a glass." I fell to my knees and bowed my head. "I am truly sorry." I said, crying, hoping it would strike pity in him and force him to take me along with him. "What?" He exclaimed, picking me from the floor. He turned to look at alpha Harrison and Luna Cara. "Tell me you seriously didn't just almost banish someone from your pack because of water!" "Alpha Caleb, this is a misunderstanding. She is an experienced liar." Luna Cara said, walking close to where we were. "She tried to have me killed." "Plus, she has brought a streak of bad luck to this pack!" Alpha Harrison added quickly, like they were scared of something. "You forget that I'm not just an alpha. I can sense that you're lying." Alpha Caleb spat angrily. "You dare lie to me?" "Never will I!" Alpha Harrison exclaimed. "If you will just have your seat and let me explain things to you." "No." Alpha Caleb said. "I've never really cared about what packs do to their omegas or slaves." "Why do you sound interested in this one?" Luna Cara asked, trying everything to get me six feet in the ground. That was quite the twist. His words struck my heart deeply. I might have hoped on nothing. "But this one intrigues me." Alpha Caleb said. It sounded like a good thing. If something or someone intrigues me, I would definitely keep them safe. "Speak what you want and it's yours!" Alpha Harrison declared. "The Moongaze pack and the Starweaver pack have kept faith for more years than we both have on our heads," Alpha Caleb started out, "draw up a contract and sign her to me. I'll in return give you whatever it is you want." That sounded too unreal. I wasn't sure I had heard him right. He just gave his word , so he could have me. Why would anyone go through such lengths just for me? I was too shocked to even utter words of appreciation. "Why her, alpha Caleb? She's the most horrible of the most horrible." Luna Cara asked. "As I said, she intrigues me." Alpha Caleb turned to one of the omegas at the door. "Have her bathed and dressed well, she's coming with me!" He said. Maybe, just maybe, I'm free already.Nyx's POV We had arrived at the next pack, ready to investigate and uncover whatever clues we could find. The air was filled with the stench of death, a heavy, suffocating scent that clung to everything. It was eerily silent, as if the land itself was holding its breath. The atmosphere wasn’t just unsettling, it was wrong, deeply and unnaturally wrong. Kieran stood a few feet away, speaking with Nicholas. They seemed to be in a very heated discussion. From the little I caught, they were discussing different ways to handle an army of the dead, if that was what we would be facing. It was clear that they weren’t just throwing around ideas for fun. There was an understanding between them that whatever was coming was likely far worse than we could predict.I focused my attention on the bodies before me, trying to ignore the way my stomach twisted in discomfort. They were eerily similar to the ones in the Bultir pack. Their skin had turned dark, a mixture of black and deep purple. Their
Kieran's POV “Of course, we will.” I muttered, pulling her hair back as we cuddled to sleep.“What if whatever is happening to them happens to us, and we suddenly die?” Nyx asked, holding my shirt tightly. “I doubt we'll die anytime soon.” “Life is fickle.” She whispered, turning to look at me. She sat up, and so did I. “Today, the world is going pretty great and everything seems fine, and then tomorrow, Alphas and their packs are dying from vomiting water.” She sighed. “And the worst part of all this is that there's no stream close to the places we've just visited.”“Which means that they adhered strictly to the rules and were still on the wrong side of everything.” She muttered.“Nyx, don't overthink it,” I said sharply. “Yes, the situation right now is pretty horrible, and it seems like the world will end in no time, but I trust your pretty and pretty brilliant head to come up with a solution in no time.”“We will survive this like we always do, I promise,” I said, kissing her
Kieran's POV I was taken aback by the dead pack that was standing again. The look on their faces was just normal. There was nothing that could describe whatever they were feeling. It was just like a dead chicken, standing up to walk about, still dead.“How the fuck are they alive?” Nicholas muttered in shock.“Whatever is causing this death is way more powerful than we're giving it credit for,” I said, grabbing a piece of metal on the floor.“How do we even kill a bunch of strong dead people?” Gary asked.“Fuck, how do we kill dead people?” Jephta asked, looking panicked as they began walking towards us.I was glad that we were all on the same page about what needed to be done to them.“Well, make sure you take out their hearts,” I said. “The life-form of any creature ends when blood can no longer flow, and the key to making that happen is taking out their hearts.” “Well then, let's plug out some hearts, right?” Nyx sighed, and we met the already running mob of the dead pack on thei
Nyx's POV Early that morning, we drove out again, straight for the Bultir pack, the closest pack to us where the unfortunate incident had occurred. Kieran was very touchy throughout the ride, and I kept giggling. It was easier since we were the only ones in the car. The driver was very good at minding his business. Kieran and I never really had any alone time after the call the previous night. He was on a call with other Alphas for a great deal of time, and everytime I check up on him, he's always genuinely trying to escape, but the Alphas just wouldn't let him be. I understand where they're coming from though. Speaking with Kieran is a blessed thing to do. Kieran set his eyes on me, and he gently kissed me. I giggled again, holding his face as his lips melted into mine. His hand ran through my body, making me gasp gently. I kissed him back, holding the nape of his neck. “I was thinking about you all through last night.” Kieran whispered into my ears, and I became an ocean down th
Nyx's POV We headed straight back to the Windwalker pack house, our hearts lighter than they had been in a long time. We won. The battle had been brutal, and at times, it felt like we wouldn’t make it, but in the end, we stood victorious. The weight that had been pressing down on us since this all began finally felt a little lighter. Kieran, though badly hurt from his fight against Bridge, chose to let his wounds heal at a slower rate. It was surprising at first, considering how quickly we usually recovered, but I understood why he did it. He wanted to feel every ache, every bruise, it was his way of reminding himself of the fight, of everything we had just survived. And apparently, we could all do the same. I first thought it was a problem until he showed me how. Despite the injuries, the mood among us was different. Lighter. There was joy in the air, a relief that we had finally overcome one of the biggest challenges thrown our way. The battle had taken so much from us, but it h
Kieran's POV The fight was definitely going to be tough, but I was going to approach it with tougher measures. All of a sudden, Bridge kicked the table up, and then sent it at me. I hit it with my fist, and it broke immediately. The battle began, and the room became a battlefield. Bridge’s pack came at us, moving swiftly and brutally. They were unusually fast, unlike the previous night where we easily kicked and beat their asses. I barely had time to react before a large wolf swung a heavy fist toward my head. I ducked, spinning on my heel, and drove my elbow into his ribs. He grunted, stumbling back, but I had no time to finish him off, another enemy was already coming. To my left, Nicholas was locked in a deadly clash with two warriors, flashing his blades at them. Nyx was fending off two close to her, moving in a very fast manner. Blue had taken on a massive opponent, dodging and weaving like a shadow. Gary fought with sheer brute strength, smashing through enemies with terrif
