Chapter 2

“I’ll show her who’s boss. I’m the CEO of this company,” I said with full confidence. Rhyd and Sevi exchanged amused glances.

“Oh, right, you’re already making a strong impression. You’ve lost weight in just a few hours. That’s impressive,” panunukso ni Rhyd, sabay tawa.

I shot him a glare, and for a moment, they actually went quiet.

“I’m asking her out. Right now,” Rhyd added, grinning.

“Should I start catching air and frying it?” I hissed.

“Kung papayag siyang makipag-date sa 'yo, I’ll fight you for her.

They burst into laughter.

“Maghahanda ako ng full protective gear at goggles. I can’t have people asking why I suddenly have acid burns,” Rhyd joked, laughing again.

Their laughter echoed through the room, like some ridiculous brotherhood moment I didn’t sign up for.

“How should I know?” I snapped. “Nakakainis. Not Drake. Not me.” My voice dripped with disdain. My ego was definitely bruised.

“And you can’t do anything to her. A fallen warrior. Kawawa naman,” pang-aasar ni Sevi. He shook his head dramatically.

“Can you two be serious for once? Bumalik na nga kayo sa trabaho ninyo, or I swear I’ll fire the both of you.”

“Huh?” they said at the same time, looking at each other.

Bahagyang umangat ang kilay ko sa dalawa. “Akala niyo hindi ko kayo kayang sisantehin?”

They both chuckled.

“You can fire us, but you can’t fire Blaire. What a shame.” Tumawa si Sevi.

“What does she call him again?” Rhyd asked.

“Drakula,” Sevi answered quickly.

Rhyd said, and they erupted in laughter again.

That was it. I snapped.

“I’ve had enough of your nonsense!” I snarled, pulling them toward the door.

“Bro, this is friendship harassment!” sigaw ni Sevi, sinusubukang alisin ang kamay ko sa pantalon nito.

“Shut up and move!” I barked.

“We love you!” they chorused.

“How the hell did I end up being friends with those two idiots?” I muttered, dropping into my chair. “Damn it, I haven’t called Mikee to check if the buyers are still coming. All thanks to those jerks I call friends.” I ruffled my hair in frustration.

They’d never visited us before, never bought a single bottle of wine from us. I picked up the telephone and dialed his number.

“Good afternoon, sir,” Mikee answered.

“Have you confirmed if the buyers are still coming?” I didn’t bother returning the greeting.

“Yes, sir. Kinumpirma ko na bago ka pa tumawag.”

“Good,” sabi ko, at binaba agad ang telepono.

I rounded up for the day, finally. The office was too damn loud for my mood, and I just wanted to get out.

“Come pick me up now. I hate waiting, so don’t keep me waiting,” I said coldly, not even bothering to hide my irritation.

“Great.” I ended the call and grabbed my laptop before leaving the office.

The moment I stepped into the hallway, sakto namang lumabas si Blaire sa office niya.

“No, you watch it. And mind the way you talk to me. I am your boss,” I shot back, my tone dropping dangerously low.

“Boss my foot! She rolled her eyes dramatically, like I wasn’t the CEO she was talking to.

My glare was enough to shut them up.

“Get out, all of you! Or I’ll fire you this instant,” I thundered.

Nag-unahan silang tumakbo palayo. Then I turned back to Blaire, irritation simmering through me.

“Watch your mouth, Blaire Balde. I deserve some respect as your boss,” I said, still agitated.

“Opo, sir. Pasensya na po.” She bent her knees in a genuflection like some kind of unhinged medieval maiden, and I froze.

But she didn’t say another word. No sarcasm. No comeback. No glare. Just… silence.

My eyes stayed glued to her back as she walked away, like I’d been hypnotized.

Wait, did she just....

“Weirdo,” I muttered under my breath as she disappeared around the corner.

I shook my head and continued toward the elevator. Pagkarating ko sa sasakyan, I slid inside and slammed the door shut.

“Take me to my father’s,” I ordered immediately.

“Yes, sir,” Anjo said, bowing slightly before closing my door.

While we were on the road, my mind drifted back to Blaire. Her madness. Her disrespect. Just like that?

I pressed my tongue to the side of my cheek, annoyed at myself for even thinking this much about her.

“Weird daughter of evil,” I muttered, hissing as I sank deeper into my seat.

But no matter how many times I told myself to forget it.

“Good afternoon, sir,” Raki greeted respectfully as he entered my office.I only hummed in response, my full attention fixed on my computer screen as my fingers flew rapidly across the keyboard. I called, leaning back against my swivel chair.“Yes, sir.”“That Rica girl. One of the winemakers you employed. Did you conduct an interview before hiring her? Is she even a real winemaker?” tanong ko sa malamig na tono.“Yes, sir. Lahat po sila ay dumaan sa interview. They made samples and presented them before I approved their employment. Their wines were impressive, including Rica’s,” he explained carefully.I stared at him for a moment.“Then why the hell is she neglecting the very reason she was hired?” I snapped.Yumuko siya, bakas ang pagkadismaya sa mukha. This was the first time I had ever summoned him to question the performance of any employee. Bilang Hiring Manager, lahat ng kinuk

“This definitely has to be a dream.” How did this happen just within a day? You and Blaire, dating all of a sudden?” tanong ni Sevi. It's crazy, but I love them together. They look too cute together, don't they?” siniko ni Rhyd si Sevi.“Yes, bro… pero sobrang nakaka-distract na 'tong halikan nila. Nasasakal na ang single life ko dito. It's not fair!” reklamo ni Sevi.“Idiot!” natawa si Rhyd at hinampas ang ulo nito. While they stood there completely confused, Blaire and I kept kissing. Pagkalipas ng ilang segundo, humiwalay kami at napangisi ako sa mga kaibigan ko.“Hi jerks, are you still confused and surprised?” nakangiting tanong ni Blaire sa kanila.“Confused is an understatement, Miss Chao Chao. We are thu

I just drove into Dad's enormous compound and parked at the garage before coming out with Astraea. Halos sabay lang din naming dumating sina Rhyd at Sevi.“Were you two following me or what?” pabiro kong tanong, at napatawa silang dalawa.“Drake’s first lady,” Sevi said, referring to Astraea. She giggled and stylishly threw her hair to the back, making them laugh."First lady that is frustrating my life," I scoffed.“Huwag niyong pansinin si Kuya. Hindi totoo ang sinasabi niya,” tugon ni Astraea, at muling natawa ang dalawa.“Let's go in, shall we?” I said, and they all nodded. With that, we walked into the house, entering the huge living room that can carry hundreds of people.“Whoa, dude!” sambit ni Rhyd. But everywhere looks new. The house has been refurnished.“Good evening, Mom,” bati ko sabay halik sa pisngi nito. We all took time to greet my parents.“My babies... Come here all of yo

“Saan ka pupunta, kuya?” Astraea asked me as I headed out of the kitchen.Dalawang araw na siyang nakikitira sa bahay ko, and right then she was in the kitchen making all sorts of dishes for me. Kagaya ng bilin ni Mom.“To the living room. I don’t want to die. Ever since she arrived, she’s been getting on my nerves. At ngayong araw, lalo akong naiirita sa walang katapusang pagluluto niya.“But you haven’t finished the things I gave you to do,” Astraea chuckled knowingly.Napatigil ako sa paglalakad at humarap dito.“Do the rest yourself, young woman,” I shot back sharply. Inirapan niya ako.“Well, I didn’t ask you to cook for me. Your mom insisted, remember?" She laughed at the way I said "your mom" like she wasn’t

I finished my call and came back with Pepper. As soon as we walked in, she sensed something was wrong and started barking nonstop. Bigla akong nag-alala. "What's wrong? It’s way taller than she is, and pushed the glass right off. The glass hit the tiled floor and shattered instantly, juice splattering everywhere."Pepper!" sigaw ko. She jumped down from the cabinet but landed on one of the broken pieces. Her paw was badly hurt, and she let out a loud yelp like dogs do when they’re in pain."No, Pepper!" I moved away from the broken glass and sat down on the floor.

I look completely tired, stressed, and frustrated. I'm actually scrolling through the message Drake sent me the other day, checking in on how I was feeling. Mabilis kong in-off ang screen at humarap sa kanila."Yeah… I need to tell dad I’ll be moving out tomorrow," I say calmly, my voice quiet and low."Hindi ba mabibigla si Tito niyan?" Hyra asked."I don’t care. Nagkatinginan silang dalawa at sabay na napailing."Sweetheart, you really don’t look happy, and I hate seeing you like this," seryusong sabi ni Jas. "What happened? Was work that stressful today?" "No. It’s
