Third Person's POV

Clyde: “Tomorrow, I’ll call my lawyer. Then we’ll see the earliest schedule.”

“Pangalawa,” dugtong ni Athena, “you pay the debt. Not… lavish lifestyle. Just enough para matigil yung forced marriage plan.”

Clyde tumango. “Okay.”

“Pangatlo,” Athena’s voice softened, “no humiliation. Kahit contract ‘to, I don’t want to be treated like… transaction.”

Clyde tinitigan siya. “You won’t.”

May katahimikan ulit, pero this time, iba—parang may nabubuong desisyon.

“Listen,” sabi niya. “I’m not going to take advantage of you tonight. You’re still not okay.”

Athena napatigil. “I’m okay.”

“No,” firm ni Clyde. “You’re not. We will talk again in the morning when you’re sober. If you still want this… then we proceed.”

Athena’s eyes searched his face. He can see a man with sense of responsibility and respect, hindi ang lalaking nasa chismis na playboy daw.

“Okay,” mahina niyang sagot. “Tomrrow morning.”

Tumango si Clyde. “Good. Now, sleep.”

“Wear this,” sabi niya. “Bathroom’s there. I’ll turn around.”

Athena natigilan. “You’re… really not gonna—”

“Stop,” putol ni Clyde, halos naiinis. “I said I won’t.”

“Good. You take the bed. I’ll take the couch.”

“Ha?” Athena blinked. “Sa couch ka?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because I’m not a creep,” sagot ni Clyde, flat. “And because you’re not in the right state to decide anything tonight.”

“Thank you,” bigla niyang sabi, mahina.

“Don’t thank me. Just sleep.”

“…Then we’ll do it,” sagot niya. “Properly.”

Napangiti si Athena nang konti. “Promise?”

Pangatlo: yung suot niya… sobrang laki.

Pagtingin niya, naka-oversized white shirt siya. Panglalaki. Amoy malinis. Amoy… lalaki.

Reflex.

“Morning,” sagot niya, maingat.

Tumahimik sila. Awkward. Yung tipong parehong may gustong sabihin, pero parehong ayaw mauna.

“Are you okay?” tanong ni Clyde, mas straight, mas serious.

Huminga ng malalim si Athena, “I’m sober. Headache. Pride? Wounded. Pero… okay.”

Clyde’s lips twitched. “Good. I mean—good that you’re sober.”

Athena tumingin sa kanya. “You slept there?”

“Yeah,” sagot niya, pointing at the couch. “Like I said. I’m not that kind of guy.”

Athena’s shoulders eased a little. “Thanks.”

“Don’t thank me,” sabi niya. “It’s the bare minimum.”

“Still,” Athena insisted, “thank you.”

Nagkatinginan sila.

Clyde cleared his throat first, parang nagising sa sarili. “Breakfast?”

Athena’s stomach growled at the exact wrong time.

“…Maybe.”

Clyde smirked. “Noted.”

Tinawagan niya ang room service. “Two breakfast sets. Light. Coffee.”

Athena umangat ang kilay. “Uy— I can pay—”

“Stop,” putol ni Clyde, calm pero firm. “Not today. One less thing for you to worry about.”

Athena napapikit saglit. One less thing.

“So,” sabi niya. “Last night… you said you want a deal.”

Athena’s spine straightened. “Yes.”

Clyde’s gaze sharpened. “Still?”

“Still.”

“Even now?” he pressed. “Na clear na yung utak mo?”

Athena tumitig sa kanya nang matagal. “Yes. Kasi kung hindi… I’ll lose my life.”

Clyde’s brows knitted. “Explain.”

Athena’s jaw tightened. “As I said last night, my parents are forcing me to marry someone. An old businessman. For their debt.”

Cold. Protective. Dangerous.

“Name.”

“Mr. Sarmiento,” sagot ni Athena, bitter.

Clyde muttered, “Damn.”

Athena laughed without humor. “Exactly.”

Tahimik si Clyde for a second, then: “You’re twenty-two. Adult ka na. They can’t legally force you.”

Athena’s eyes flashed. “Legally? No. But emotionally? Financially? Socially? They can corner you until you don’t know what choice looks like.”

Clyde stared at her, then nodded slowly. “Okay. Then we do this clean. Rules. No confusion.”

Her last words to her mother kept repeating in my head.Hindi pa. Pero mas malaya ako.I should have been satisfied. Freedom was the point, wasn’t it? I married her so she could step out of that house without being dragged back. I paid the debt so they could no longer use it as a leash. I stood beside her so she would not have to face them alone. But hearing her say she was not happy yet bothered me more than it should have.“Stop looking at me,” she said, eyes still on the window.“I’m not.”“You are. I can feel it.”“You have impressive detection skills.”“I live with you now. I adapted.”That should have amused me. Instead, I heard the weight behind I live with you now, like she was still testing if the words would hold.“Are you okay?” I asked.

  • Playboy's Contract   CHAPTER 47

That was worse. I looked at his hand for a moment before placing mine over it. His fingers closed around mine, warm and steady.“Anytime you want to leave,” he said, “we leave.”I swallowed. “Kahit kakapasok pa la

  • Playboy's Contract   CHAPTER 46

Cloud and Anthony had taken over the living room like tiny generals. Athena sat on the carpet with them. That was the part I couldn’t stop looking at.She was still wearing the simple dress she had changed into after lunch, hair loosely tied, sleeves pushed up while helping Anthony fix a loose wire on his toy. Cloud was beside her, explaining battle rules like it was a legal contract. Athena listened seriously, nodding at the right moments.“Wait,” she said, holding up one hand. “So bawal umatake kapag nasa blanket area?”Cloud nodded. “Safe zone.”Anthony frowned. “But what if emergency?”Cloud looked offended. “Robots respect rules

  • Playboy's Contract   CHAPTER 45

Kagabi, dinala iyon ni Cloud sa kwarto ko dahil sabi niya, “Mugs should sleep near their owners.”Hindi ko alam kung bakit muntik na akong umiyak doon.Bumangon ako at inayos ang sarili bago bumaba. Sa dining area, narinig ko agad ang boses ni Cloud.“Daddy, if Athena leaves, does the mug leave too?”Napatigil ako sa may doorway.Clyde answered, “Ask Athena.”“But what if she says yes?”“Then we respect it.”Silence.Then Cloud’s small voice came again. “I don’t like respecting that.”Hindi ako nakagalaw.Cly

  • Playboy's Contract   CHAPTER 44

I imagined victory would feel sharp and satisfying, like signing a deal no one could take away from me.Pero habang nakaupo ako sa study, hawak ang confirmation mula kay Atty. De Vera, wala akong naramdamang tagumpay.Ang tanging nakikita ko ay si Athena. She was sitting across from me, quiet, her hands folded around her moon mug. She smiled when I told her the shares would be released, pero hindi umabot sa mata niya. I knew why. I would have to be blind not to.Now that the conditions were satisfied, she was wondering where that left her.Where that left us.“Stop thinking,” I said. Her brows lifted. “Excuse me?”“You’re thinking too loudly.”“That’s not a thing.”“It is when you do it.”She looked away, pretending to drink from her mug.

  • Playboy's Contract   CHAPTER 43

My hand was still in his, and neither of us seemed brave enough to let go first.“Pagod ka na,” sabi niya.“Medyo.”“Stop reading for tonight.”“Hindi mo ako boss.”“No,” he said, voice quiet. “But I’m your husband.”Napatingin ako sa kanya. He seemed to realize what he had said a second too late, pero hindi niya binawi. Hindi niya rin ginawang biro. He just looked at me, steady and careful, as if waiting for me to decide kung sasaktan ba ako ng salitang iyon o kakapit ako roon.I looked down at our hands.“Convenient husband?” I asked softly. His thumb mo
