2: Adopted

TIP-TOEING, Dione can’t still reach the curtain bar holder. When suddenly, she felt someone’s hard chest on her back and helped her put the curtain in its holder.

“Let me put it.” It was Jax. After he put it, Dione just got the strength to look back. She was embarrassed earlier because it looks like he is enclosing her in its body.

“T-thanks,” Dione sincerely said, can’t look into Jax’s eyes. She doesn’t know why, but his stares to her feels like it burns her. She’s feeling weird just by looking into his eyes.

Jax just nodded at her and left her to take care of what he was doing, helping them put their things in their new house. The home’s exterior is a combination of windows, painted board, and mirror-polished stainless steel. It’s spacious even with the four of them, excluding Baron and Jax.

Only the noise of Dione’s two siblings makes noise inside the house. They are busy with the placement of their belongings, as well as cleaning. Dione looked at the five boxes on her side. Those were her belongings that she would take to her new room.

Baron had shown her earlier where her room would be in the house, and it was bigger than her previous room.

“Mom, I’m going to take these things to my room,” she said goodbye to her mother who was dressing her younger sister who was full of sweat because of playing.

“Oh, okay, can you do that? If possible, ask Jax for help, oh,” Dione frowned when she heard Jax’s name. That’s why she decided to put her belongings in the room so that she could get out of there. Because she couldn’t seem to breathe if she was there, she couldn’t understand. Maybe it’s because they’re tired of organizing things.

“N-no, it’s okay—” Dione stopped when she saw Jax take the two boxes containing her belongings and start carrying them to her room.

“Very kind boy,” she heard her mother say. Dione just sighed and took a box and loaded it and follow Jax.

There were five bedrooms in Baron’s house, but only four were occupied. Her mother and Baron will sleep in the same room, as well as her two siblings. And one for her. She just assumed that Jax occupies the other one. All she knew was that Baron has a son, but she didn’t see him around, so she thought his son was not here.

Dione stopped walking when Jax stopped as well. He stood beside the closed door. He then tilted its head to see her. Dione gasped a little when their eyes met, but also wondered why he was just looking at her and not opening the door.

“H-huh? Why?” Dione asked.

“I don’t want to open your door first, it’s your private place. I thought that it might offend you,” Jax explained.

Dione blinked a couple of times as if she really heard it right. Suddenly she was embarrassed because she seemed to be just staring at the man. He might have thought something about her.

“A-ah, is that so. I’m fine,” she replied to the man. But she also turned the doorknob and entered the room first.

The bedroom is the epitome of warmth, thanks to the chocolate brown walls and fall foliage-inspired bedding. There’s a one large-scale piece of artwork above the bed. And a mushroom-style table lamp beside the bed.

“Just put it there, Jax,” Dione said after she laid the box she was carrying on the floor. Jax gently laid the box on the floor, one by one. He nodded at Dione and was about to come out when the woman called him.

“A-ah, Jax, thank you,” she thanked him. Jax turned to look at her and nodded at Dione again.

“I’ll take the remaining two boxes here,” he said, and walked out. Dione could do nothing but let Jax take the rest of her belongings.

Dione came over to her bed and touched it to make sure it wasn’t dusty, and Baron seemed to have cleaned the whole room because the surroundings and the bed were clean. She took off her shoes and jumped on the bed.

“Ah, so soft,” Dione grunted when she felt the soft mattress on her back. She spread her arms on the bed and let herself relax for a moment. It was only then that she felt the tiredness from traveling for many hours and arranging belongings. That’s why she didn’t realize that she had fallen asleep.

And so, when Jax entered the room again, he just found Dione sleeping. She was sound asleep, so he didn’t bother to wake her up. He slowly laid the two boxes he was carrying on the floor.

He didn’t even come out right after he put them down. Instead, he stares at Dione and clutches his chest where his heart is located. It is as if his ribs are going to break soon because of how wild his heart’s beating. He didn’t know if it was just a coincidence that this was happening when he was facing the woman. But he just thinks that it’s because of his sickness which he have since he was young. So he insists on ignoring the thought that it’s because of Dione on why his heart is acting differently.

He decided to go out after a few minutes, and he thought of going up to his room as well. After all, they are also done arranging things. And his master will call him if he tells him to.

When he reached his room at the far end, he immediately approached his side table and took a tablet of medicine from its plastic box. He took a pill and drank it without water.

The person who adopted him has given him that medicine since he was adopted. The man who adopted him is a scientist, so his life is not too difficult. As a thank you, he worked for his son, Baron, to help him with anything.

He lay down on his bed and remained staring at the ceiling for several minutes before falling asleep.
