“Bow to your new king!” The arrogance in Zev got even more pronounced as he ordered the second time, sitting on my father’s seat. The throne room was a big hall filled with elders and chiefs, their heads touching the ground. They paid respect to the arrogant man who sat on a stolen throne. But my father and I refused to bow. We stood, head up with courage, only that the chains didn’t let my Father raise his head as high as mine. “So, you don’t want to acknowledge that I am the leader now. You think you still stand a chance?” Zev yelled. He stood up, spread his hands open, and started laughing. “This weakling thinks he still has a chance to be some King again.” He mocked him. Years welled up in my eyes and anger hid behind my straight face. I couldn’t bear to watch the ridicule that my father endured. He stood without uttering a single word to defend himself. I tried to push out my claws; I would have found the strength to fight for my land, but my shy claws stayed in, as usual. Tears were not shy as they poured out of my eyes relentlessly. My father turned his head and looked at me. I could see the heartbreak in his eyes. If he could speak, he would have lamented how he let the entire kingdom down. He looked away from me immediately and kept his head down. “Come on, take your shot. Make it your best shot!” Zev was still bragging. He knew my father was in chains and could not defend himself at the time, so he mocked him. “How dare you?” I yelled from where I stood. Anger had eaten me up so much that I would have done anything to bring Zev down. “Oh, the little princess finally found her voice,” he smiled and walked towards me like I was a harmless puppy. “It’s so nice to finally hear your pretty voice. Might I hear you speak again, me lady, for your voice is more suiting than the victory song the men sang for me when I took over that throne.” He laughed with his mouth wide open and his guards joined in, as well. He got closer to me and pushed his face even nearer to mine. “Years don’t suit you, little princess. You should smile often.” His tone was calm as he wiped my tears. “Why?” I started. “Why are you doing this? Why did you plan and carry out this coup? What do you stand to gain?” Questions kept falling out of my mouth. “We took you in and treated you like family even when you weren’t. My father, the same man you called a weakling, clothed you, fed you, and catered for your every need. So why?” I asked. “Ahn ahn,” he flapped his finger sideways. “I beg to defer, my lady. Your father didn't cater to my every need. I wanted power and he didn’t cater for that, did he?” he smirked at me. “I was only here for two reasons. To have you and that throne.” He said. I spat on his face. “You might have gotten the throne, but you will never have me.” My tone was firm. I meant every word I said. “As long as I am alive, you will never have my daughter!” my father yelled. “And we can fix that, can’t we boys?” Zev whipped his face and walked towards my father. “Yes, we can.” His guards chorused. “So, maybe we should just kill you…” he rubbed his palms and fingers against themselves. “…or not. I think I will need you more alive than dead. But it needs it to be like you are dead.” He looked up as if he was thinking. “Guards!” He called out. “Take him to the palace prison and lock him up there. Make sure he is in the deepest part. The dungeon. You will only give him two meals every day.” He said. “I am too kind.” He continued. “So, make sure you feed him from the King’s table. He needs good food to stay alive for whenever I need him.” He kept on talking. “Now, take him!” He ordered, and the guards took my father away. “No!!” I yelled repeatedly and cried bitterly as they took my father away. I screamed and attempted to go after him, but the guards held me back. As soon as they took him out of the throne room, Zev came to me. “So, where were we?” He curtsied. “Oh yeah, I remember. I was making you an offer.” He said. “You don’t have to waste your strength. I will take no offer from you, not even a titled position. Not after you humiliated my father in that manner in front of these men who looked up to him!” My voice was up to the roof. “You are such an ingrate. A bastard that deserves to be stoned to death for treason. Your quest for power will be the death of you!” I was in deep pain. Zev was already angry. His breath became heavy and his eyes were yellow. Claws shot out of his nails and his face took a monster out of shape. Fur shot out of his skin as his body grew bigger. In a few seconds, he had turned into a full big werewolf and charged at me with a roar. My heart skipped, but I stood my ground. I knew he wasn’t going to kill me. He turned back to human. “Don’t make me send you to join your father.” He said with a sudden calm tone. “Regardless of what you think of me, I will still make you my offer.” He added. “What is your offer,” I asked him. I didn’t want to see that part of him for the second time because I was a weak werewolf and I wouldn’t have the strength to fight back if he decided to hurt me. “By my queen. Rule side by side by me, and you will still have your royal position.” He made his offer. “And if I say no?” I asked. “I will throw you out of the palace to live with other peasants as a commoner.” He said. “I would rather dine with swine than be your bride. So if you are throwing me out to live with the commoners, do it fast.” I said. I didn’t really think he would do it. “You made your bed, you will lie on it,” he said, looking into my eyes. “Guards. Take her out!” he yelled, and two hefty men picked me up and headed out for the palace gate. My body crashed to the floor, sending vibrations that irked my whole being. I looked around me, and saw the dirt that soiled my clothes and skin. My mind was bitter, and anger enveloped me. “I swear by my late mother, I will return to this palace and avenge all the wrong that has been done to me and my family. I will bring you, Zev, down. I swear,” I yelled out. “I will sever his head and hand it on a stick at the entrance of this gate to make sure everyone learns not to toil with me or my family ever again!”Raul POV I sat down watching Natasha do the laundry by the riverside, enjoying the beautiful hums of her voice. Something rustled in the bush nearby, forcing my senses to go on alert. I turned around to see if I would find anything or see anyone, but there was nothing worth checking out. I wondered why I worried, though. No one came to this side of the woods. I heard another rustle, and this time, Natasha heard it too. With my senses heightened, i tried to listen closely, but I there was still nothing to hear. It seemed as though something was playing games with me, yet everything stayed still. I shrugged my shoulders when Natasha used her eyes to ask me the obvious question. Her beauty shone under the sunlight, and when she turned to continue her work, my heart trickled. The constant echoes of the rustling leaves lured me, and I stood up. “I’ll be back. I have to check on something,” I strode off, not waiting for a response from her, to the front side of our makeshift dwellin
Natasha POV“Control it, Natasha. Focus on your senses. Channel the anger, and rage you feel into your transformation,” I could hear Raul’s deep voice direct me. I was in my subconscious, trying to shift into my wolf form. We have been practicing this for days now. It wasn’t the easiest of tasks, seeing as I could only let out barks, rather than howls, and my claws barely popped. I tried to follow his instructions, focusing my inner energies as he usually would tell me. Nothing. It wasn’t working. How do I tell him he’s been wasting his time here? Better now than later, still. “It’s not working, Raul,” I pronounced and snapped out of the mid-transformation phase I had tried to enter. His face held some strains of disappointment following my failure, but he soon brightened up to welcome me back. "It's alright. We don't always get it right at the start.""Was that meant to comfort me?" I asked, fully aware of what he was doing. "Well.." He said, tugging me slightly by the should
Raul POV“How much for this?” A woman behind me asked the price of an item. “You know how much it is.” The merchant responded back. “Are you sure you want to sell your wares?” Her voice retorted back. “Are you sure you want to buy my wares?” he played along.I shook my head absent-mindedly when I turned to see who it was. I knew the merchant. He was famous for his indifference when it came to his trade. People seemed to believe that his off-handed air was an indication that his goods were trustworthy. No one else would have such boastful confidence. But I knew. I’d tried some of his merchandise before. It was a horrible experience. I looked up at the sky and the quickly-rising sun. It was barely dawn and already, the market was already filled with people. “Well,” someone slapped me on the back and slung an arm around me. “If it isn’t Raul the Wrong.” A whiff of the earthy combination of powdered bark and a concoction of what was the unmistakable smell of
