RUMMAGE

The alarm was ringing but Brian was not in the mood to wake up. Suddenly, his phone too started ringing and he picked it up abruptly. He put the receiver upside down on his ear and answered.

“Heelo” Brian said in sleepy voice.

“What is the day today?” the person asked on the phone from the other side.

“Huh!!!” Brian made a voice. He was already sleepy and he also did not understand the question.

“Day Brian!!! What is today’s date?” the person on the other side of the receiver asked angrily. It was a female voice.

Brian opened his eyes with great effort and checked his phone to see the date. He woke up with a jerk hurting his back lightly after seeing the date.

“I am sorry!!! I am so... so sorry!!! I will be there on time I promise” Brian said while standing on his bed. He put down the receiver and then he realized he was using it in the wrong way but he had no time to think about that. He was running late to start that important day. Brian tried to run to the bathroom but in his hurry, he tripped from and hurt his ankle. It was definitely not his day. He was finding it difficult to walk properly. It seemed like he hurt his ankle too hard. That was not good news if he had some serious injury. He went to bathroom, took a shower. As he had no time for the breakfast, he decided to run for his destination. He was limping a little and had little pain but it was not the major issue for Brian at that time. He needed to reach somewhere first.

It seemed like whole city was out on the road at that day and there were too many traffic signals which seem like going red as Brian reached there. When Brian was driving, he noticed a flower shop and he parked his car on side. He crossed the street by walking and brought a bouquet from the old lady who was also the owner of the shop. Brian was very happy with the flowers he brought, and he was sure that these flowers will get him the apology he was begging for so long. Brian looked at those flowers and smelled its fragrance. He was delighted with it. His stare suddenly fall onto his watch and he remembered that he was running late. He practically started running to his car and he was not being very careful while doing it. It happened suddenly and Brian understood nothing until it was too late. There was an accident!!!

Brian was hit by a car!!!

After the accident, the car driver did not stop and he ran away but Brian was hurt severely. There was blood all over the road and Brian soon started losing the vision. The crowd started gathering around Brian. Brian heard faintly someone calling ambulance and Brian turned his head while struggling to keep his eyes open. He looked at those flowers in his hazy vision dispersed on the road and he saw his blood rail reaching to the closest flower petal, soaking it

in his blood. He was devastated looking at those flowers and he was in lot of pain but he could not resist closing his eyes anymore. He gave in to his injury and unconsciousness.

It was not suppose to happen but it did.

It was not how Brian planned for this day to go but it did.

But what did Brian plan?

Where was Brian going?

For whom those flowers were brought?

There were so many unanswered questions and now there was only waiting for Brain to wake up so that those questions could be answered but it will happen only if Brian will ever wake up.

Will he?

Jerika was a confident and strong woman as her name suggest. She was truly an emperor in her field and in her skills but her strength and her positions was questioned and she was in trouble. It was not a new thing for a woman in society to be questioned for hr status and for her real powers just because she is a woman but story here was a little bit different. Jerika was not fighting with the society, she was fighting with herself with the only agenda in her mind to prove herself the potent and valuable member of the organization she as working for. Jerika worked for the government. She worked in the research and development division for the government and she was a scientist herself. But her work was more like that of a businessman than a scientist. She upgraded herself like that. She liked to come up in front and make valuable decisions and be a part of it rather than following someone’s orders. She wanted a field work and she did hard work to get to the position she was in. it will not be wrong to say that she did more hard work than anyone of her colleague, especially the males one as woman need to work hard for the position and status to be taken seriously within the society. It is the harsh truth and Jerika knew it. But the best part was. She was not afraid from it. She was ready to work hard.

But will she have the success she is looking for?

After two weeks...

Brian was in hospital. Brian was lying in the hospital bed when he started shaking. The nurse on duty was shocked and ran for the doctor while Brian opened his eyes.

Brian woke up and doctors came to check on him. Brian was too weak and he could not understand much what was going on around him but he knew he was in hospital considering

the environment and everybody’s uniform. He looked around but his vision gain went hazy and he fainted again.

After few hours,

Brian woke up but this time he was in much better state. He tried to stand but he felt his leg to be very heavy. He removed the blanket from him and realized that there was a fracture in his left leg. He was also having pain in his back. There was no one in the hospital room. He needed answers and he could not move at all. He decided to wait for a little bit more so that a nurse or doctor or any visitor can come and to provide him with some answers. Brian realized his head was too hazy and it was too aching. He was worried that he will again lose consciousness and his questions will again remain unanswered. He could not bear that. Brian stood up with great difficulty wincing in pain. He dragged his body outside the hospital room. He was walking while taking support of furniture or wall. He was lucky that his room was not too much away from the reception. There were few more people standing on reception for inquiry with the receptionist and the receptionist seems like amateur. She was not able to properly handle the public in front of her and it made her frustrated.

Brian walked to the reception area while limping.

“Hello!!! Hello!!!” Brian called the receptionist but the receptionist was busy with other person.

“Madam!!! I received a call from this hospital and they said my wife was hurt. Can you tell me in which room she is?” the man asked.

“Are you sure the call came from this hospital only?” the receptionist asked the man in front of her.

“Of course!!!” the man replied annoyingly.

“Sir Can you give me her name?” the receptionist asked the man who was asking for his wife.

“Wait!!! I need help” Brian cried while wincing in pain. He was about to take a fall but he took a support of the receptionist table to keep standing and in response to it, other stuff like some files and a frame fell on the floor which helped Brian in getting attention from the receptionist.

“Oh my God!!! What are you doing here? You should not have come out of the bed. Go back!!!” the receptionist yelled at Brian.

No... Please Listen!!!!

Brian tried to say something to the nurse when he felt a strong blow over his head like someone hit him. He tried to turn around but his injuries made him trip and fall on the floor. All Brian could see was the person’s shoes. Brian recognized those shoes very well as he himself was big fan of shoes. It was 1950s Monk Black Vintage shoes. Brian’s consciousness again gave in and he fell unconscious.
