"Bye, Eli. Behave, okay?"
"Yes, mommy... I love you."
"I love you too." She kissed her bago umalis.
Monday kaya kailangan niyang makarating agad sa opisina. Well, being a college undergrad, assistant pa rin siya hanggang ngayon. She was just lucky na may tumanggap pa rin sa kanya despite her having no college diploma.
Executive assistant siya for almost ten years na. That long service already earned her the status of being the little boss.
"Good morning, Hannah!"
She asked as she turned her desktop on.
"Hindi natuloy ang wedding of the year!”
"Nino?" Blankong tanong niya.
"Ekk, Hannah. Nate and Olive, remember? And the excuse was so lame, they needed to postpone raw kasi may immediate commitment abroad si Olive."
"Ah." Napatango lang siya. She totally forgot na kasal nga pala dapat nina Olive at Nate kahapon.
Nate Sarmiento is every girl's dream man. Choosy pa siya?"
"That's their life, Mia." Apparently, no one knows Olive nor Nate the way she does. So she just kept her mouth shut.
"Yeah, but what I’m saying is mali ang desisyon niya. Poor Nate."
She did not answer. Olive left him to sort the mess. But her sympathy goes to her friend. After all she just fought for her true love. Nate's nothing but a heartless jerk who once wanted her dear Elisha aborted.
"Let's get to work," sabi na lang niya.
"Ano pong nangyari? Nasundo n’yo na si Elisha?" Kinakabahang tanong niya.
"Hannah, wag kang mabibigla...
Pilit niyang kinakalma ang sarili but to no avail.
Elisha was missing!
"Sinundo raw siya ng daddy niya!"
"What?!" Para siyang sinabugan ng bomba that she felt numb for a moment.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Rodriguez. But your husband came to fetch Elisha," paliwanag ng school administrator nang sumugod siya roon para magwala.
"Husband?!" Hindi siya makapaniwala. "I'm not even married yet, Mrs. Ferrer! You gave my child to a complete stranger! Elisha is missing now and it's because you didn't stick to your rules!"
"Parents are allowed to fetch their children," kalmadong pahayag ng kausap niya.
"Oh please." Umiiyak na siya. "For almost a year ako lang o si ate Yoly ang sumusundo sa anak ko. I made it clear to you, the paper that I signed when I enrolled Elisha here. So don't give me that excuse. Elisha doesn't have a father!"
"I'm sorry-"
"Sorry? I don't even know where Elisha is right now! Paano kung kidnapper 'yong sumundo sa kanya? Paano kung-"
"Ms. Rodriguez, we are sure that Nate Sarmiento is not a kidnapper," deklara ni Mrs. Ferrer.
"What??!" She felt her world crashed. For a while akala niya matutumba siya sa pagkabila.
Tama ba ang narinig niya?
"Nate Sarmiento was the one who fetched your daughter."
"You're kidding me-" imposible! Hindi maaari!
How on earth did Nate learn about Elisha?
"Did he leave a number or anything?" Nanginginig na tanong niya after several seconds na tila nag-hang siya while trying to process what she just heard.
"Actually, he did." May iniabot itong calling card sa kanya na agad niyang hinablot at nagmamadaling umalis.
She could feel her heart breaking. No, how did he even know about her in the first place?
She wasn't able to prepare for this moment and she could feel her nerves shaking with every unanswered ring. Nate has Elisha and that was enough to scare the hell out of her.
Would she see Elisha again?
'Oh please... please... don't take Eli away...'
"Where's my daughter?" She said in lieu of hello the moment the call was picked up.
"Hello to you too, Hannah." The icy cold voice from the other line sent shiver down her spine. He mentioned her name in the most expressionless way possible. Hindi pa siya nagpapakilala pero base sa reaksyon nito, he had been expecting her call.
"Where's Elisha?" Nanginginig ang boses niya --of anger and undefined fear to the man who currently has her daughter. "I beg you Mr. Sarmiento, give my daughter back. I don't know what your intention is, but please, don't take Elisha!"
"Last time I checked, she's my daughter." He let out a cold laugh. Nakakainsulto.
"No, no no... She's not... Please!" She's already crying hard, she couldn't lose Elisha or she would die.
"Let's have a deal, Hannah," he said.
"What deal? I'll do anything...
"It's best to talk about it in person." He mentioned a place to her that seemed like a home address. "So, I'll be waiting."
"You're bringing Elisha, right?" Umaasang tanong niya.
"That's for me to decide, sweetheart." He hung up.
Her shoulders dropped. She couldn't help but worry. Is Elisha safe? Nate didn't want the child then.
Pero hindi iyon ang tanong-- paano nito nalaman ang tungkol kay Elisha when the only other soul who knew about her existence was her real mother...? Could it be that Olive told Nate?
'No, Hannah... Olive is your friend.'
Yeah, right.
She shook her head to push away the thought...
Kasama nito ang lalaking nagtangkang patayin ito while she was yet a fetus. And he was even so sure that she was his daughter!"Ms. Hannah Rodriguez?" a black car pulled over in front of her. She murmured a 'thank you' bago sumakay sa magandang kotse ni Nate
"Good morning. I'm Hannah Rodriguez. May I know the office of Nate Sarmiento, please?" nasa lobby siya ng NS Hotel na pagmamay-ari ni Nate."Do you have an appointment with the GM?" It was already the third day na nasa poder ni Nate si Elisha. Pe
Moving in with Nate Sarmiento never crossed her mind in the slightest. How could she if she despised the man for treating both Olive and Elisha heartlessly? Well, bahay nga pala iyon ng isang hotelier... "Let me get this clear with you," Nate said once Elisha was out of earshot. "You will resign from your work and be full time in watching my daughter." "But—" "I'll pay you, of course," he added insultingly, like napaka-importante no'n sa kanya. "I just don't want Elisha to think that I'm not treating her 'mommy' well." "I do plan to tell Elisha –and I've already told Olive– that I am not her mother. But not until she can already understand." "That's actually my plan, Hannah. You're coming with us just so you can have enough time to break it
"Thank you so much for entrusting your daughter to us, Mr. Sarmiento. We assure you that she'll be taken good care of," nakangiting sabi ng school administrator ng super exclusive school na pinag-enroll-an ni Nate kay Elisha. Ms. Cruz was a young school admin. She was pretty and sexy too. Obviously, she'd been trying to charm the too formal Nate Sarmiento since they came into the room. "I'm counting on that, Ms. Cruz. By the way, this is Hannah Rodriguez," sa wakas ay pakilala ni Nate sa kanya, akala niya nakalimutan na nito na kasama siya nito. Kanina pa kasi nag-uusap sina Nate at Ms. Cruz and he never introduced her, that she could only guess based on Ms. Cruz' subtle gazes na nagtataka na ito kung sino siya. ‘Yong
Nate was indeed a very busy man. But he made it a point to drive Hannah and Elisha to school everyday -at least for already three days straight. And it should have been a good thing. But Hannah hurts every time she sees how happy Elisha was with Nate's company. How did that happen? She never mentioned the word daddy to her so she wouldn't look for one. And Elisha never asked her about her father. Akala niya nagtagumpay na siyang burahin ang ano mang magkokonekta dito sa tunay nitong mga magulang, to Nate in particular. Pero heto, a little over a week pa lang since Nate came into Elisha's life and yet parang forever na silang magkakilala. Elisha loves her daddy so much it already hurts. Dahil alam ni Hannah that when she gets that chance na ilayo si Elisha - mahihirapan na siyang burahin si Nate sa buhay nito, If she ever gets that chance in the first place… Hannah always gets the backseat dahil gustong gusto ni Elisha sa passenger seat. She loves pestering h
"You're going to be late if you don't hurry up." "Why is daddy not driving us to school?" Malungkot at naka-pout na tanong nito. "Daddy's got a breakfast meeting, Eli. It's important." "More important than us?" Seryoso ang anak niya and she didn't know if it's a good or a bad thing. "Baby, listen to me. Daddy is a very busy man. But he finds time to spend with you. However, today, he's got this very important appointment with an extremely important person," she wasn't supposed to cover for Nate. But for some reason, ayaw niyang madagdagan ang problema ng binata. She couldn't forget that hurt smile of Nate last night. She had always thought that he's a strong man –for the short time she'd known him at least. But last night, habang sinasabi nito na nagpakasa
The latter was a picture of a happy kid. Nate on the other hand was a picture of a loving father. Before she knew it, a smile already crept across her face. She noticed a few people already recognized Nate Sarmiento as they began taking pictures of him in not so secret way. She knew that he knew and he didn't do anything about it. So hinayaan na lang din niya. After all, kahit hindi pa pinapakilala ni Nate sa publiko si Elisha, hindi naman nito itinatago ang anak nito. Nevertheless, she saw Paul and the other escorts stopping the crowd from
"Leah, stop!" Their little family moment at the fast food were all over the papers the next morning. Of course everybody jumped to the conclusion that Nate had a secret family all along. That's why his marriage to Olive didn't push through, ending with the latter marrying somebody else… "Come on, look at this... '' Leah tirelessly shoved the newspaper to her face. "This gesture is just so romantic. Who wouldn't think that you're not a couple?" Tukoy nito sa litratong hawak-hawak ni Nate ang kamay niya while trying to protect her and Eli from the media. "It's nothing, okay? A spur of the moment thing." "Hannah, he should've just left you right there if he didn't care about you!" "Why is it even such a big deal?" "Hello, Nate has celebrity status. You do not know but many rejoiced when his wedding was put on hold.
