LOGINADIRA'S POV
“Mommy! Mommy!” I heard Lumina's voice calling out to me.
She was barely able to make out the words properly.
But wait…
How come Lumina is alive? How come I can hear her? ...
Are we in the other realm now?…
“Adira!” The voice of an angry man yelled, forcing me to confront reality.
My eyes opened and immediately snapped shut at the blinding lights. I slowly opened them again, blinking rapidly, disoriented and confused.
“Adira!” The voice came again. Louder and angrier this time.
My eyes snapped open, and slowly the images around me started to come alive. I looked around at the crowd gathered in the hall. Everyone’s eyes staring back at me in confusion and irritation.
“Adira, are you okay?” Came the familiar voice of Ryder's grandfather, filled with concern.
My eyes snapped to him. And there he was seated on his throne with Mrs Willow beside him, also on her throne. Her face scrunched in a deep scowl and anger.
Only the throne of Ryder was empty.
“What is wrong with you! You are embarrassing everyone!” He snapped.
I turned to my side, and there he stood… Ryder.
The irritation on his face was clear. He was beyond pissed.
“What the fuck is going on?” I muttered to myself.
Just then someone tugged at my hand. I looked down to find Lumina, looking up at me with doll eyes.
She is smaller than I remember… What is going on?
I immediately picked her up and hugged her tightly. Seeing her beautiful face not filled with smoke and black like charcoal brought tears to my eyes.
“You are okay… you are alive…” I muttered repeatedly, hugging her tightly.
“What is wrong with you?” Ryder whisper-yelled angrily.
My eyes snapped to him. Searching his eyes, I saw the hatred I had come to know.
“Adira”, Grandpa Alan (Ryder's grandfather) called out to me again.
I turned to him.
“I will ask you again,” he said. “Will you marry my son?” he asked.
My eyes went wide. I looked at Lumina and then at Ryder.
On a closer look I finally noticed that Ryder looked younger than I last remembered. My eyes glanced around the hall at the scowling and irritated faces.
And then it clicked…
This is exactly two years ago when I was asked by Grandpa Alan to marry Ryder in a hall filled with people. People who hated me.
The moment that caged me to this family for the rest of my life until I died a horrible death with my daughter.
I was back to life… I got a second chance at life…
I gasped loudly as it finally dawned on me.
The memories of my death flooded into my mind: the burning sensation, the pain of Lumina’s cries and screams. And the moment I begged helplessly for a second chance at life.
A chance to get my revenge on everyone seated here. The anger I felt at the time of my death started to fill me again.
I looked at Ryder, and he looked back at me with the same eyes. I looked at his mum, and she had the same deep scowl.
Just then I saw Claudia, Ryder's pregnant cousin, walking towards me with a bowl of food. I kept my eyes on her as she got closer to me.
“It's really happening,” I muttered to myself.
She smirked and intentionally missed a step and fell towards me. Just then I shifted, and everything inside the bowl poured on Ryder.
Her eyes widened in shock as she realised what had happened.
I burst into laughter as I noticed a leaf sticking out from Ryder's hair.
The hall was completely still as I crackled with laughter, but I didn't care.
In my past life, it had happened exactly like this, but instead of Ryder, it was me, and Lumina had been the one downed with everything in the bowl, and he had done nothing.
Everyone had claimed it was because she was pregnant, and pregnant women need to eat. That was why she was carrying the bowl of food. They made excuses for her instead of telling her to apologise.
And I had still stupidly accepted to marry Ryder.
“What the fuck! Have you lost your mind?” Ryder yelled.
Murmurs and snickers filled the hall.
“I… I… I am sorry.” Claudia stuttered. “It was a mistake… It wasn't supposed to be you…” she started to say but suddenly shut up as she realised she was about to give the secret away.
I turned to Mrs Willow. She was the one that had instructed Claudia to do this in my last life. Just to disgrace me
The anger in her eyes deeply satisfied me.
“And why are you laughing? Is this funny?” Ryder yelled at me.
But I could see the embarrassment hidden in his eyes and also a bit of shock at my reaction.
I smirked. “It is funny. It is so funny that I will still be laughing about it next year.” I replied.
He was taken aback by the answer. He opened his mouth to say something but closed it as no words came out.
“I can't believe I condoned all this nonsense before now.” I gritted out. “There is nothing special about you, absolutely nothing.” My voice filled with anger, mixed with detest.
His eyes widened in shock and disbelief.
I turned to Grandpa Alan. “To answer your question.” I yelled at the top of my lungs for everyone to hear. “I will not marry your grandson.”
He sprang up from his chair in sheer shock. “What?” he yelled.
At the same time, Ryder's face snapped to mine. His eyes wide like saucepans.
But instead of relief that I was rejecting him, he looked angry.
“How dare you reject my son!” Mrs Willow’s voice thundered in the hall.
My eyebrows furrowed. “Why are you angry? You never wanted me to marry your son.”
I smirked. “Why? You hate that I am the one rejecting him and not the other way around?
You don't think I am worthy of rejecting your son?!” I yelled.
“Well, surpriseeee! There is nothing special about your son. Just as he is the son of an alpha, I am also the daughter of an alpha! Just as he is alpha to his pack, my father also desires me to become alpha after his demise.
So no! There is nothing special about your son!” I yelled.
I heaved, panting heavily as I finally felt the weight get off my chest.
I felt free…
I felt powerful.
Mrs Willow stood there watching me speechless. She stumbled backwards in shock and fell into her chair.
“Adira… What is this? What is going on with you?” Grandpa Alan asked softly.
He also looked speechless and in shock, but his eyes still showed kindness, like in my past life.
I breathed out heavily. “I am sorry, Grandad Alan, but I am done putting up with this. No one here actually wants me here…”
“But I do… You belong here; your daughter belongs here.” He said softly.
“No… I don't. And even though you care about me, you couldn't protect me…” I said, barely above a whisper.
I could still remember the emotions I went through in my past life. The pain and heartache
I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again, it shone with confidence. I stood taller, my shoulders squared with confidence.
“I will not! Marry Tyler, Alpha of the Lunar-Guard pack. I will not be his Luna, and I wish to have nothing to do with this family.” I declare with a voice unwavering.
“That is unacceptable!” Grandpa Allen snapped, finally raising his voice. “You will marry my grandson, and you and my great-granddaughter will remain in this pack.” He ordered.
I smirked. “You don't own me.” I said to him,
“Neither do you…” I said to Ryder.
“You are only being given this opportunity for the sake of Lumina! Get off your high horse and stop this pretence.” Ryder yelled in my face, fists clenched at his side.
“I think you have mistaken my silence for submission. I won’t marry a man who once let me burn. You are no man to me.”
Gasps filled the hall. People are stunned by my audacity.
Something flickers in Ryder's eyes. Embarrassment? Humiliation? Fear? Shock? Maybe a bit of all.
But I didn’t care. I spun around and walked out of the hall with my daughter in my arms and my shoulders held high.
ADIRA’S POVThe council square was filled before sunrise. Warriors lined the perimeter. Elders stood on raised platforms. Every pack member from both Crescent-End and Silvercrest gathered to witness the trial. The air held a charge, a mixture of fury, betrayal, and anticipation. The three traitors stood chained in the center. Atlas looked hollow and defeated but not scared. Scarlett’s father trembled under the weight of public disgust. For a man that tried to kill people, he was truly scared of death. Grandpa Alan stood still, chin raised, refusing to bow even now. But one thing they all had in common was the bloody clothes, torn lips, bloody eyes, and missing fingers. They had refused to confess, but Jackson made sure they did. He had spared us the pain of having to do the interrogation ourselves, and he had done a good job.The matter was so huge and too serious that the entire alpha council had to get involved. They appointed the eldest alpha to be the head of the trial, and today
ADIRA’S POVThe council hall had never felt this heavy. Every elder seat was filled. Two packs sat opposite each other. My father’s pack on the right, and my pack on the left. Voices murmured low, confused, and uneasy. No one understood why I had called for an emergency joint meeting at dawn, and I did not offer an explanation.Ryder stood beside me, tense. He kept glancing my way, looking for answers I was not yet ready to give. He had insisted on knowing why I wanted to call a meeting, but all I could tell him at the time was that he would find out at the meeting and that it was important to have the meeting for Lumina’s sake. Scarlett’s father entered, shoulders squared, pretending confidence. Atlas came in next, eyes darting nervously around the hall. And then Grandpa Alan walked in with his cane, calm, composed, the picture of respected authority. But even though he was calm, I could see the questions swirling in his eyes. I was certain that a part of him wondered if this was ab
ADIRA’S POVWhen I got home that night, Ryder was at the door waiting. The moment I walked in, he pulled me by the hand into the storage room.“What is going on?” I asked, looking at him skeptically. He stared back at me, his eyes filled with something I could not explain. I shifted back a bit, feeling uncomfortable under his piercing gaze.“Where have you been? And what have you been doing?” he asked in a gruff voice.I cleared my throat and looked away from his piercing gaze. I knew there was no way I was going to tell him about everything that had happened.“I was with Lyra. We had some things to discuss,” I replied. His eyebrows raised. “You left immediately after we got down from the car, and you are just returning home. Do you know how many hours it has been? Lumina asked of you so many times, but I could not reach you on the phone or through the mindlink. I had to get her to sleep after trying everything I could.”I bent my head as a wave of sadness hit me.“And the only thing
ADIRA’S POV“I saw it happen…” she said in a small voice, barely above a whisper. The room felt smaller than it had moments ago.The walls that had once been my refuge now pressed in on me. The air was thick and heavy. My pulse still had not steadied from everything we had heard in the forest, and yet here I was hearing more.Lyra stood across from me, silent. Watching.“You were there?” I asked again, my voice barely above a whisper. “The night of the fire?”Her fingers tightened around the edge of the table.“Yes.”The single word landed like a stone in my chest. My mind reeled. Flames. Smoke. The smell of burning wood and flesh, Lumina’s cry, and darkness.“You pulled the ring from the ashes,” I said slowly, trying to piece it together. “Which means you arrived after…”“Yes, after you were already gone. But the truth is, I wouldn't have been able to do anything even if I got there early,” she finished quietly.Silence stretched between us.I studied her face carefully. There was no
ADIRA’S POVWe followed at a distance. Atlas moved confidently through the southern exit, cloaked in darkness. He did not look like a man doing something shameful. He looked like a man accustomed to secrets. He suddenly slowed down, quickly came to a stop, and swung around. It was a close call, but Lyra and I were able to dodge behind a tree just before he could see us.He stood for some seconds and took a few steps, walking backwards. My heart pounded. “Has he noticed us?” I thought to myself. He took a few more steps, and I couldn't help but shrink myself even further. After a few seconds he finally turned around and walked away. I let out a slow exhale and didn't move until I was certain it was safe to do so.Lyra and I kept low and silent. The forest swallowed us whole. He walked for nearly twenty minutes before reaching an abandoned stone structure a bit far from the border. I never knew such a place existed so close to the pack.Lyra and I stopped at a safe distance, close enoug
ADIRA'S POVThe moment the car stopped in the pack, I immediately jumped down."Hey, where are you hurrying off to?” Ryder asked quickly.“There is something I need to do. I will meet you up at the office soon.” I replied without stopping.I could see the flash of disappointment in his eyes, but that didn't stop me. I quickly made my way to the secret room that I used for my meetings. I need some time to myself to think.“There was an agreement back then, and it is still standing till now. If he has found another way to get what he wants, then he will still help me get what I want. That was the only reason I did what I did back then. He made the proposals back then, and I had to convince my daughter and everyone involved. Stability has to be maintained. If not, then we will all lose what we are looking for.”The words of Scarlet's father echoed in my mind."There were proposals back then. Merging territories through marriage would have secured you then, but you gave it up for a bigger
ADIRA'S POVLumina was asleep after eating this morning. As I looked at her sleeping figure, I sighed.I should have dropped her off at the nursery to play with other kids, but I couldn't. I went in with her and still left with her. It wasn't until that moment that I realized how much fear the kidn
RYDER’S POV“Don't bury him; throw him to the vultures,” I ordered Jackson and walked out of the torture room.Adira had already left earlier to be with Lumina.I was devastated at the death of the perpetrator, but I was glad we could save Lumina.“What now?” Grandpa Alan asked as we made our way o
ADIRA'S POVWe left the hospital room and made our way out. Ryder walked ahead while I followed behind.I froze when I noticed bloodstains on the floor. My gaze shot up, and that was when I saw it. His sleeve was soaked, blood dripping from his arm, leaving the trail behind him. Before I could thin
RYDER'S POVI was speechless as she stormed away. Why does she only act like this towards me and not at my wolf?“What’s going on?” Mum asked as she noticed the tense atmosphere.Elder Theo cleared his throat and remained mute.I looked away from Adira’s back. “It’s nothing, Mum,” I replied, my gla
