“Just—just get it over with.” He paused, titling his head. “Get what over with?” I glare at him, “The rejection. Just do it.” He stared at me, the smile he wore on his face suddenly dropped, “You think I intend to hurt you? That I will reject you?” Fine, if he wanted to play this way then no problem. “Fine. If you won’t reject me, I reject you.” I don’t even have time to react before he’s in front of me. “Try again, little wolf.” He leans in, lips ghosting over my ear “Reject me all you want. The moon goddess brought you here for me and now you’re mine.” ~~~~ Emma had always been nothing. An orphan. An omega. But when she turned eighteen, the Moon Goddess gave her hope, her mate was Aiden Blackwood, the future Alpha. For the first time, she thought she belonged. But Aiden shattered her. He rejected her. He used her. And then, in front of the entire pack, he claimed another as his mate and Luna. Broken and betrayed, Emma ran. She didn’t care where she ended up, until she crossed into forbidden land and was thrown into a cage, waiting to die. Only for him to appear. Kieran Valerian. The Lycan King. A man whispered about in fear. A ruler with blood on his hands. And when his golden eyes locked onto hers, the world seemed to stop. “Mate.” But Emma refuses to be weak ever again. She will never beg for love. Never trust an Alpha’s promises. Not even when the most powerful Lycan alive looks at her like she belongs to him. Because she learned the hard way that mates can destroy you. And this time, she won’t go down without a fight.

I wake before dawn, as always. The moment my eyes open, I know what the day holds: an endless amount of chores, insults, and exhaustion. I was already dreading the day as I stood up from the mat. The pack house was already stirring, the sounds of laughter and conversations filled the hall as I slipped out of the small cot I was given in the omega’s quarters. My body ached, and my hands were rough from years of scrubbing floors and serving meals. I tell myself that today will be different. Today, I turn eighteen. I lived in the Blood-moon pack, the tenth pack of the ten founding packs. It was a privilege to stay in a pack like this. At least that was what I was told every morning and night by the head maid and chef. My name is Emma, and I’m an orphan. My mother died the day I was born - at least that was what the pack members told me. Not like they ever let me forget. I was the girl who killed her mother. My father, on the other hand, has been nonexistent. My mother never mentioned him for the two days she stayed in the pack before she died. There were some theories. He was a rogue. A runt even, but all of them were baseless, and because of that, I was nothing. Just an omega, the lowest rank in the pack and the pack’s burden. It didn’t help that I looked absolutely different from the rest of them. I had bright blonde hair with white streaks, uneven colored eyes which only scared the pack members, and so I wasn’t allowed to look anyone in the eye or I had to cover my eyes. I swallow down the bitterness as I grab my ragged dress from the small wooden crate beside my mat. It is the only thing I own. The fabric is threadbare, barely holding together, but I smooth it out with care. It is all I have. As I slip it over my head, I hear the familiar sound of footsteps approaching the omega quarters. My stomach clenches. I already know what’s coming. “Emma!” a sharp voice barks. I freeze, then quickly step outside, lowering my head in submission. The head maid, Greta, glares at me, her lips curled in displeasure. “You were supposed to be in the kitchen ten minutes ago,” she snaps. “Do you think you’re special just because today is your birthday?” I say nothing. Greta’s nails dig into my arm as she yanks me forward. “Get moving before I make sure you don’t eat today.” Hunger claws at my stomach, but I nod and hurry past her. Breakfast for the ranked wolves is already being prepared, the scent of meat and fresh bread filling the air. I reach for a tray, my hands trembling as I balance the plates carefully. The last time I spilled something, I went to bed without food for two days. The dining hall is loud with chatter and laughter when I enter. The young alphas, Betas, and high-ranking wolves sit at the grand table, their plates already full. My hands shake slightly as I move toward them, placing fresh dishes in front of them. No one acknowledges me; I am invisible. Until I am not. I hear the sound of a boot scraping against the floor just before something hard slams into my ankle. Pain shoots up my leg, and I stumble, barely managing to catch myself before I fall. But the cup of juice I was holding tips forward, splashing onto the table. Dread pools in my stomach. “Are you serious?” a familiar, sharp voice sneers. I don’t need to look up to know who it is. Vivian. The Beta’s daughter. The future Beta female of this pack. Her sharp green eyes narrow at me as she dabs at the few drops of juice on her sleeve. She isn’t really angry. It’s all a show. An excuse to humiliate me. Of course, the maid can’t even handle serving drinks properly,” she says loudly, making sure everyone hears. Laughter coursed through the room. I lower my head, keeping my face neutral. I have learned that reacting only makes things worse. “I’m sorry,” I whisper. “Pathetic,” she mutters before turning away. I quickly finish my task and retreat to the kitchen, my face burning. This is my life. This is how it has always been. But tonight… tonight, everything will change. Tonight, I will shift for the first time. Tonight, I will meet my mate. A part of me dares to hope. What if my mate takes me away from here? What if he sees me not as an omega, not as a servant but as someone worthy? I sighed and went straight to washing the pots the chef had used to cook. Minutes later once I was sure they would all be done eating. I slipped back into the dining hall. Unfortunately for me, they were all still gathered, talking and laughing at whatever they were telling each other. I moved as quietly as I could, collecting the dirty plates and cups. The door to the dining hall opens, and the air shifts. The laughter and conversation suddenly dimmed a little, almost like a person of power had stepped in. I don’t turn at first, focused on stacking the dishes, but then the room stills. My skin prickles uncomfortably, and my curiosity wins, and I finally look up. That’s when I see him. Aiden Blackwood. The future Alpha of the Blood Moon pack. My breath hitches, and for a second, I forget everything. The plates in my hands. The ache in my body. The fact that I shouldn’t be staring. I can’t look away. He’s standing just a few feet away, his tall frame blocking out the light from the doorway. Dark brown hair, slightly messy, as if he ran his hands through it one too many times. The moment our gazes lock, a jolt of something powerful rushes through me. Everything slows. The noise fades. The scent of warm cedar and spice wraps around me, stronger than anything I’ve ever smelled before. Then, in a low, stunned voice, he breathes out one word. “Mate.”Kieran~I watched her walk away. Head high, shoulders stiff, legs quicker than ever.Even now after I’d humiliated her in front of everyone, she refused to back down and let it go. What was her obsession with learning to fight? What did she need it for? I’m there. I’ll protect her.Damn stubborn woman. The moment she was gone, I felt the air shift. A silence I hadn’t asked for settled around. “Back to training,” I snapped, my voice sharp. All of them had stopped training to watch. “Get to work! No slacking, no laziness. Train like your life depends on it.”Immediately the sounds of grunts and groans filled the space again. I sighed, feeling an headache coming. I felt her presence before she even spoke. Lena stopped next to me, arms wrapped against her chest. “That was too much.” I didn’t glance at her. Just kept my gaze fixed on the field as the warriors resumed their drills.“She needed to understand,” I said tightly.“There are better ways to teach someone than tossing them to th
The next morning, I was out of bed as soon as the birds chirped. I wore a white shirt Kieran had given me last night and paired it with a black leggings Lena had dropped in the room after dinner. I tied my hair into a tight ponytail, looked at my self through the mirror and exhaled deeply. It’s okay! You’re fine, Emma. You can do it. I muttered to myself.I slipped out of the room as quietly as I could, last night during dinner, I’d caught on some of the conversations which lead to my firm decision of learning to fight. And so, I knew they would be out in the training failed as early as six am. Now, if only I could locate where the training fields were…I wandered past the hallway, the scent of pine drifting in through the open windows. A few wolves passed me by, giving nods or curious glances. No one really cared about the supposed ‘stray’ like that woman Savannah had said. The pack house was already bustling with energy even with how early it was. The maids were already working an
The dining hall was full by the time I walked in, and suddenly, it felt like every eye turned to me.They all looked at me like I was some alien who just landed in their home which in a way I kind of was. I swallowed tightly, looking away from the pack members and instead to the man whose gaze called out to me.Our eyes locked and i instantly looked away, letting myself be dragged towards the empty chair. Lena pulled me down to sit next to her while by her side was the man I’d call the beta. Judging by the warm sweet smile he passed to Lena. The pack members by now had recovered? No one was staring at me anymore and their conversations flowed smoothly like my presence wasn’t a bother.“Don’t want eggs or bacon? Or maybe you can have both.” Lena said as she called on a maid who began to serve the food.“Anything,” I murmured quietly. But I couldn’t focus on food.Because that sensation, that pricking awareness on the back of my neck was still there. His stare.I didn’t dare look again
“I know you’re Alpha Kieran’s mate.”I stopped breathing for a second, snapping my head to look at her. My stomach turned inexplicably. The look on my face must’ve been gravely scared because Lena’s smile wavered awkwardly,“Wow.” She breathed, rubbing the nape of her neck awkwardly. “He really wasn’t lying or downplaying it. You really don’t want to be anyone’s mate, do you?”I swallowed hard, looking away. “You do not know what you’re talking about.” I replied stiffly.“Don’t I?” Lena asked, brows quirked. “Usually, I would hear of the Alpha rejecting his mate but this is different.” She leaned closer to me, eyes squinted. “You do realize Kieran’s the King. Anyone would literally die to be in your position right now.”I shook my head. Of course I knew Anyone would die to be on my position. Anyone except me. “You’re wrong. Mates aren’t always a blessing. Sometimes they’re… not good. Sometimes they ruin everything.” I snapped, unable to help myself. Not when Aidan’s mocking eyes flash
The packhouse is quiet.Too quiet. For the past two days, I’ve heard constant movement…footsteps in the halls, voices, and grunting of those training. But now, stepping out of my room for the first time, everywhere was silent, almost as if no one was in the pack house.Did something happen?I hesitate in the doorway, half-expecting someone to stop me. But no one does. I look around, hesitant, but still, no one stops me, so I take a step forward, then another, forcing myself to breathe. It’s fine. I’m just getting water. The kitchen isn’t hard to find. It’s big, like everything else in this place, and completely empty. A large silver sink, dark granite countertops, the shelves were stacked with food I don’t dare touch. I don’t belong here.Still, my throat is dry. Ignoring the voice in my head that tells me to leave and not touch anything, I grab a glass and fill it quickly from the sink. Just a sip. Just enough to ease the dryness in my throat. But as I turn to leave, I slam into some
Chapter 9“Have the Silvermoon pack report to me on why their Alpha has suddenly disappeared from the pack…and why no one thought it important enough for me to know.”“Understood, Alpha,” Tobias nods.He starts to speak again, something about the crisis in the northern region, but I barely hear him. My thoughts are elsewhere, consumed by her. After her collapse in the woods, she has withdrawn into herself again. Silent. Distant. Not like she wasn't ever distant.A familiar frustration coils in my chest. She's in my home now, under my protection, yet she still feels like a ghost, slipping through my fingers.“Kieran.”Tobias's voice jolts me from my thoughts.I blink at him. He's frowning.“What's going on?” he asks. “I've been talking about the northern region for the past five minutes, but you haven't heard a word. Is something wrong?”I exhale, leaning back against my desk, arms crossed.“She has marks.”Tobias tilts his head. “Marks?” he repeats.I nod. “On her arms...” the memory
