Chapter 6 - Undying Love

Emerald didn't slap him when he forcefully kissed her a year ago but what she said was worse than a physical slap.

Clayton couldn't say anything to refute her. He had it coming.

If he treated her differently. Respected her even though their marriage was an arranged marriage it wouldn't arrive at this point that Emerald would treat him as a scumbag.

It was all his fault.

"I agree with Shannon, you have a great taste. I remember when we were abroad when I got sick and you took care of me. The food you cooked or bought was superb!" Red had shining eyes as he reminisced about those time he had with Emerald.

Bile of jealousy was surging into Clayton's throat from the pit of his stomach when he heard Emerald took care of his cousin.

Clayton wanted to shut Red's mouth to stop him from blabbering.

"Fine, fine, I'm going to order food for you," Emerald chuckled.

Red really wanted to gain Clayton's approval and he was confident that Emerald wouldn't fail to leave a good impression on Clayton.

"Why don't you order for everybody?" Red suggested.

Emerald looked askance at Red.

Emerald wondered if Clayton revealed their past relationship to Red when she was in the shower room.

Clayton hid their marriage well. Only his father and Lizzy knew about his marriage.

Emerald wanted women out there to know that Clayton was already taken even though they don't know who he was married to.

Their wedding was rushed and Emerald naively thought that Clayton had no time to buy rings for them.

Hence, after the wedding she asked Leonardo to buy wedding rings for her and Clayton.

"Clayton hubby, dad bought us wedding bands," Emerald said when she was finished blow drying his hair and gave the box to him, in hope that he will put the ring to her finger.

"Wedding rings symbolize undying love. Why will I give you a ring? To begin with, I don't have an undying love for you as I don't love you and never will love you." After saying those razor blade words, he unceremoniously threw the box of rings to Emerald.

"Ahem!" Red cleared his throat to get Emerald:s attention as she seemed to zoned out.

Emerald blinked her eyes and Red smiled charmingly, removing the doubt in her heart.

Revealing the past to his cousin will only hurt his beloved woman, Lizzy. She will be seen in a bad light if he did that.

"Red, I know nothing about your cousin. So it's not fair for you to ask me to pick food for him. As for you and the rest I have no problem as I knew what you liked," Emerald complained.

Clayton gritted his teeth at the agonizing pain brought by Emerald's remark.

She knows nothing about him. He was the apple of her eyes in the past but now he was nothing to her.

"I will pick for him," Shannon volunteered with stars flashing in her eyes. She looked at Clayton, batting her eyelashes.

"Sure! You can pick for him," Emerald gave the menu to Shanon.

Emerald was unaffected by Shannon's coquettish behavior towards Clayton.

Clayton held the menu before Shannon could get it.

Clayton flashed Emerald a dashing smile that would make a woman swoon, but it did nothing to her. She was like watching a clown smiling at her.

"I'll eat anything Emerald will order," Clayton said and gave Shannon a scathing look.

Shannon was unfazed. She was like the previous Emerald, she didn't care what Clayton did or said to her as long as she could stand beside him and be his wife.

In the end, Emerald ordered food for everyone.

Red was able to blend in with the exuberant group unlike Clayton who was quiet most of the time and concentrated on staring at his ex - wife.

Emerald was quite flustered at Clayton's behavior but she couldn't lash out at him because if she did there was no guarantee that their past relationship would remain hidden.

Halfway through their meal, Clayton unknotted and removed his tie. He rubbed his chest.

"Anything wrong?" Shannon asked Clayton and was about to stroke his back but Clayton stopped by giving a deathly glare.

In fear, Shannon retracted her arm.

Clayton looked at Emerald, the corner of his eyes were slightly red.

Emerald wanted to brush him off but seeing how uncomfortable he was and was clutching his chest.

"What's wrong?" There's a trace of panic in her voice which she didn't notice but was noticed by Clayton.

Though he was struggling to breathe, Clayton still felt happy that Emerald still cared for him. He would die a happy man knowing that his ex - wife still cared for him.

"I have difficulty breathing," Clayton unbuttoned the first two buttons of his shirt.

With the help of Red and the other men on the pit team they were able to settle Clayton at the back of the car.

Emerald couldn't drive as she was so nervous. The last thing she wanted was to have a car accident.

Emerald stayed with Clayton in the back seat. Rubbing his chest while the nearly unconscious man's head layed on her lap.

"Clayton don't die, open your eyes, please " Emerald's voice cracked, tears gathered around her eyes made her eyes blurry.

Red and the driver looked at each other when they heard Emerald speak as if Clayton wasn't just her acquaintance but shared an intimate relationship with him.
