Isabelle’s POV

Thousands of hands collided beneath the bright ballroom lights as I stood behind the podium, looking out at an ocean of wealthy investors, corporate executives, and influential businessmen.

The applause was deafening, and I wasn't nervous. I guess I had grown past that now. I smiled politely, knowing I didn't care whether they approved of me or not.

Five years ago, I had learned something very important. People respected power. They did not respect tears, or weakness.

And they ce

Conall's POVAt four seventeen, some black SUV pulled up in front of Aegis. The chauffeur's door opened, then the back door before Isabelle stepped out.I've been staring at that building, waiting for something to happen, and someone to show up for long which made my body go rigid. My wolf surged so violently against my ribs, with my grip on the edge of the desk. She wore a dark green blouse tucked into black trousers, with her hair pulled back neatly, as she held a tablet in one hand, and her phone in the other. She looked nothing like the woman who had run off from my office five years ago, but like a woman who knew exactly where she was going, and exactly what she wanted.I watched her walk toward the entrance, without a glance at my direction. Of course she wouldn't, she didn't know I was watching her. But a part of me felt disappointed.“Sir?” I turned. Logan stood behind me. I looked back at the automated glass doors Isabelle had walked into. “Your flowers were delivered.”My at

CHAPTER 6Conall’s POVI had never been good at losing, not in business or in war.If someone challenged me, or take something that belonged to me, I crushed them, I made sure they regretted it.And, if someone walked away from me, I never chased after them.As the Alpha King, people came to me, not leave me. But Isabelle, didn’t do any of that.Running a frustrated hand down my face, I stared at Bostons’ sky through my office glass towards the wall.Five years.Five damn years, and I finally get to see her again. Alive, breathtakingly beautiful, and stronger than I had ever seen. And she had looked at me as if I were nothing. Not even anger. That would have been easier to handle. She had looked at me with indifference. As though the man who had once been her husband was nothing more than another stranger in a crowded room.My wolf growled low inside my chest. He didn't like it either, he wanted our mate. That woman would be the end of me. That was a first for me, I had no idea on how

I guess I had grown past that now. I smiled politely, knowing I didn't care whether they approved of me or not.Five years ago, I had learned something very important. People respected power. They did not respect tears, or weakness. And they certainly did not respect a woman who would beg a man to love her. So I had buried that woman along with the identity of Isabelle Blackwood. That woman was dead to me now. The woman standing on this stage was Isabelle Loren. The CEO, majority shareholder and founder. And, of course, the architect behind Aegis Systems.I rested both hands lightly against the podium and looked at the million and one faces that stared back at me."Five years ago, cybersecurity was treated as an expense," I said while

Conall’s POV"Your coffee is getting cold, Alpha," my beta, Logan, muttered, sliding a fresh stack of financial documents onto the edge of my desk.I did not look up from the dark window, my fingers tightly gripping the glass of whiskey that had replaced my actual breakfast weeks ago."Leave it, Logan," I said, my voice sounding incredibly rough and completely drained of life. For five miserable years, my entire existence had felt like walking through a massive pile of cold gray ash.On paper, the Blackwood Pack was completely thriving, our corporate stock prices hitting record highs every single quarter. But inside my chest, everything was dead. My inner wolf spent every single night pacing back and forth in my mind, howling for a ghost we couldn't bring back. The memory of Isabelle’s pale face on the day I tossed those divorce papers at her was permanently burned into my eyelids.I thought she was weak. I thought she was just an annoying political liability that I needed to scrub aw

Isabelle’s POVFive years later"Welcome back to Boston, Mom," Hannah said, tugging lightly on the sleeve of my expensive coat.I looked down at my eldest daughter and smiled, stepping out of the bustling sliding doors of Logan International Airport. The crisp autumn air hit my face, a massive contrast to the warm climate we had left behind in California.Five years ago, I left this exact city bleeding, broken, and floating face-down in a freezing river. Now, I was walking back onto this concrete territory on my own terms, smelling like extreme wealth and absolute power.I was no longer the pathetic little girl who cried over a man's cold words or begged pack elders for a scrap of respect."Is this the place where you used to live?" Leo asked, his little hand gripping the strap of his backpack tightly. He was already looking around the terminal curb with a defensive glare, his tiny shoulders completely square."Yes, buddy, but we are just here for a very important business meeting," I

Isabelle’s POV"Move faster, you stupid car," I screamed, slamming my hand hard against the steering wheel.I had managed to get into my car after storming off and now I was driving to goddess knew where. The windshield wipers were clicking furiously, but they could not keep up with the sheet of water blinding me.My hands shook so hard on the wheel that the car kept drifting toward the muddy shoulder of the forest road.I was officially inside the ancient Blackwood pack territory, surrounded by miles of dark, suffocating pine trees.Every single breath felt like inhaling shattered glass because the image of Conall on that couch kept flashing in my mind.He did not care. He actually looked at me like I was an annoying bug he wanted to squash under his expensive shoe."We are going to be okay," I whimpered, pressing my right hand flat against my stomach. "I will protect you guys, I swear."The triplets were the only reason my heart was still beating right now.I had to get out of New E
